I think the bigger danger is what % of the fan base will be upset if Pitino isn’t hired. It’s setting oneself up for disappointment with these irrational takes as we’ve already discussed multiple reasons why Pitino won’t come here or would rather go somewhere else on top of the fact that our head coach position is currently not open. I think he’d come here in a heartbeat if the job were offered to him. Where else would he “rather go”? I suppose a true blue blood, or maybe St. John’s if it became open. But I don’t think he’s turning down Georgetown to go to Big State X at this point in his life/career. To be clear, I’m in the camp that thinks Jack wouldn’t have the courage to make the offer, but I think Pitino would jump at it. Prove me wrong, Jack. Texas for one. Infinite resources.

My intuition is that maybe 10-15% of the fan base would be "offended" by hiring him. Mostly old timers of a certain background, the types who clutch their pearls and say things like "I am frankly shocked and appalled....". But a much bigger percentage of the lapsed fan base would likely be rejuvenated by the hire, much more likely to come to games and make donations again with a HOF coach and proven winner resurrecting the program. Contrast that with hiring somebody like James Jones--approximately 0% of the fan base would be "offended" by his hire, but nobody's making a big donation or rushing to buy season tickets to see James Jones unless he's able to actually win us back through success over time. It's so weird to me that people think Pitino would be a controversial hire. No one would be offended by Pitino, this program is way more sketchy now than Pitino would be.

There it is. Ewing will finish out contract extension regardless of what his record is going forward. He will not be going anywhere.

I was kind of foolishly hoping this is kind of the kiss of death vote of confidence Then again it sounded like the usual excuses with new ones from JD sprinkled on top And the fact that he called non conference schedule "preseason" (as if it is meaningless) kind of screams how he should not be the one overseeing the program and almost feels like a roundabout way of saying that the expectations for this season are basically: don't lose every BE game

DeGioia is complicit. He's lauding us pushing out rising Seniors.

I think they just completed the pre pre season. The pre season starts tonight and then the season is 1 to possibly 4 days at MSG.
I honestly think that's how they view it.

Reading JD's response--over 8 minutes long it just leads to more frustration. Classic deflection on his part. A history lesson about the changing nature of college basketball and the NCAA, followed by a few tributes to Ewing's love of the University and his effort to turn things around. Nothing about results. Nothing about the empty arena,. Nothing about the anger and frustration of the fanbase. Nor the constant turnover in the player pool. Basically nothing.
For those who are basketball junkies, tune in on Sunday at 6:30 EST to FS1 to see Rick Pitino and Iona take on Richard Pitino and his unbeaten New Mexico team. The rebuilding job for Richard Pitino at UNM has been every bit as challenging as that at the Hilltop, with an even more passionate and demanding fanbase. The folks at New Mexico complain when attendance drops to 8,000. I have seen the Lobos a few times as they beat St. Mary's and SMU on the road and San Francisco in Las Vegas. We'll see how they fare against SDSU and other powers in their conference, but have to credit younger Pitino for doing something so far in 2 years that Ewing has not in over 5 years..

Even if I was one of JD's friends who he brought onto the board, that alone would be enough to make me fire him and drop kick the program inner circle out the backdoor. Maybe even do a media release denouncing the actions and negligence for the last several years that led to this

What infuriates me more is that he deflects and brings up NIL and how we aren't fully ready there yet. Like what? We need a good NIL system to beat 200+ kenpom teams? He is either clueless or protecting his 12 million dollar mistake by creating more excuses, either way he's transparent as hell that he is a fool

As those in attendance (City Alliance) can probably attest to (given the context of the industry involved), "hopium is a hell of a drug" ("And he's doing everything in his power to try and turn the program around." / "If anyone deserves the benefit..." / etc.).

I genuinely believe that if we get more than 1 BE win this season (so the bar is 2), he will stay easily even if we just get 2 wins plural

I read it so you don’t have to/short summary: “It’s complicated, but I love him and he loves us. I think he can do it, just give him time.” If left to his own devices, Jack isn’t gonna do a thing…🤦🏻♂️😱

I have to admit I quit reading after Jack D started his deflection about NIL, etc. I finally read to the end and saw that word: "gel." Ha ha ha. He's gotta be kidding and obviously thinks that the remaining fanbase is simply stupid.

When does the extension expire ?
That will be the day to think about GU winning again.

Jack didn't want to fire JT3 right? Who's on the board this time?

I really hope that nobody in power at Georgetown thinks we should only hire black coaches. This notion is so absurd. I hope no one anywhere thinks that way… Agreed

“I’ve known Patrick since he was 18.” Coach will not be fired mid-season that is certain. We would need to go 3-17 in conference or worse to gain any traction for end of season removal. That said, I would fully expect JD to show support for Ewing at this type of event and early in the season.

Head, meet sand. “We are SOOOO special and above it all, we can’t be expected to succeed in this new environment, like those other bandit schools, in conference and out.” Maybe the NESCAC has an opening for us, Jack…
