Again on his podcast today - Mike Francesa said that "you know they (Georgetown) have been heating up the lines to New Rochelle. So don't be surprised by that (Pitino ending up coaching Georgetown)"
I don't think this was based on any inside info it's just Francesa following the logical path of action for Georgetown.
So this is not news, but it is another example of a media figure linking Georgetown and Pitino. May they all speak it into existence!

I’m on the record here as hate, hate, hating the idea of Mike Brey. I would take Mike Brey over Dawn Staley seven days out of the week and twice on Sunday. Brey is an uninspired pick, he’s washed up, and he was just shown the door at ND. But he has, in fact, coached a high-major men’s basketball team before, and had some (albeit not recent) success doing so. Hiring Brey would be a (much) worse version of hiring Pitino or Cooley. Hiring Staley would be another version of hiring Ewing. I don’t want another Hail Mary. Let’s keep it in the fairway this time, please!
I’ve seen a lot of chatter in this thread about how Pitino can’t or won’t do NIL. What actual evidence is there of this? If he didn’t want to deal with NIL he’d be staying at Iona or retiring, not vocally lobbying for another high-major job. It’s not like he signed with a high major and NIL got announced a month later, catching him by surprise. He’s very opening campaigning for a high-major job knowing full well that NIL is part of the deal now.

People are just making stuff up because of Pitino’s age that just isn’t true because they don’t like him and use it as an explanation when they don’t have good ones. Pitino just raised hundreds of thousands of dollars at Iona for the basketball program on his own, and people don’t think he could help promote NIL opportunities? It’s absurd.

Who said he won't promote/support NIL opportunities? Maybe i missed it. He simply hasent done it thus far in any major capacity. And older coaches have been slower to adjust or want to as has been said by Coach K, Wright, Brey, etc. But I'd think/hope any coach would utilize NIL as much as possible.

People saying the guy who basically inspired Blue Chips won’t do NIL is lolololol.

It sure would be nice to get one single morsel of actual news on this front. 110+ pages and some tweets of speculation. Yeah, good point.

Staley is slated to make 3.1 million at SouthCarolina next year. Idk why this keeps getting brought up. She is not coming here after her extension and even if the admin was willing to buyout another HM coach’s contract on top of Jack’s stupid Ewing contract, it wouldn’t be to hire an untested women’s coach. I am not saying it’s the worst hire we could make but the timing is about as far away from perfect as it can be.

Exactly, I may have missed the posting saying he wouldn’t do it but yeah he has raised a ton of money at freaking Iona and got them to refurbish and renovate the arena they use. I was walking by the Marriott mess by the Key bridge earlier, and it made me think that if pitino is hired then I’d be willing to bet at least $100 he would push for renovations or improvements to the cap one situation/mcd, or heck get us to a final four and raise cash to take over the financial disaster across the bridge for an “on campus” spot. It is such a good spot and the nosy gtown neighbors can’t butt in about every little detail, and I would even bet many Rosslyn businesses/people would be in favor since an arena would block way less water views than a big building and brings a lot of foot traffic to businesses. One can dream

Because she's never led a men's D1 program? There are certain points on this timeline where I would have said, sure - go for it in regards to an out of the box idea like Staley. I generally think smart people that are good (great) at their jobs figure things out.
But now is not that time. You can not make a hire that could turn into a disaster - and that absolutely could. Although in fairness to here - I would hire her over Jeff Capel or Tommy Amaker.

We are not an HBCU. We are not obligated to hire a minority coach. What other school thinks this way? It’s insane. As I stated there's a big elephant in the room Sorry I’m missing the elephant. Can you elaborate?

A Power 6 program does not have to nor should take a coach who has never coached on the men’s side. It’s a ridiculous proposition. Maybe a mid major can afford to take the risk. We aren’t in that position.

Begging, please, for the Dawn Staley discussion to stop. We tried the "feel good" hire last time. She could be great but we have no idea. We do not need a women's basketball coach just like we don't need an NBA coach or a G League coach or a high school coach. We need somebody with a track record in men's college basketball, not an adjacent game. The "basketball is basketball" argument fell on its face last time. We can't risk the same again.
There are plenty of very qualified candidates in THIS game. Can we please end this topic once and for all?
