Unfortunately I don’t think there’s any way Jack offers him the job but if he does, Pitino would take it.

While as Ive said many times on here, Id be fully on board with a Pitino hire- I think this idea that hes the only choice because hes a slam dunk to win right away is fools gold. Hes 70+ years old. Has not coached at a high major in 7 years. His track record with recent transfer portal is highly unimpressive. For this season Iona had 3 transfers: 1 from Mizzou, and 2 from Community colleges. His current staff is highly unimpressive. And his former staff - well, we know how that went. He's a HOF'er and one of the best coaches of a generation. Its just a matter of which generation. Is it impossible to believe that he could flounder at Gtown much in the way Boeheim has at Syracuse as he got older? If Pitino came in and made Georgetown a .500 team, for the next 2 or 3 years - would that suffice? Because that is probably at the higher end of probabilities - and then what? You now have a 73 year old coach about to retire with a middling program and are basically back to where we are today in a coaching search with a few extra Ws. Again, Im on board with his hiring if it goes that way, but at the expense of a real search, or proclamation that its him or bust - foolishness imo. I’ll bite. Way too low of a bar for Pitino, but in a word, YES. Assuming you’re talking .500 in the BE? I’d trust Pitino to put together a real OOC schedule where even a .500 record in conference would be bubble territory with a win or two in the BET. In short, just gimme hope. And more than say 8 wins in the BE is at least hope. That's completely fair. I've just seen talk of "Pitino can get us to final four / national championship in 2 to 3 years". If that's the bar - woo boy.

On his podcast today - Mike Francesa said that he has heard rumors of Georgetown having interest in/reaching out to Pitino in some way. He said he has not heard such rumors about St. John's,
Who knows how legit this info is. Francesa is a bit of a dinosaur on the sports scene, but he does have some long held connections in college basketball. And he definitely has some legit sources on St. John's (he's an alum and has always talked about the program at least occasionally on his radio show/podcast). At least hearing these kind of reports from national media figures can provide some glimmer of optimism that Pitino could be a realistic option.

Pitino would not have a .500 record at GU over a three year period. He just wouldn't. He's not an average coach. They'd be jockeying for tournament seeding (NCAA). Someone mentioned few days ago that Pitino's not a great recruiter. Not true. He mentioned in an interview recently that he doesn't heavily 4 and 5-star recruits. Which makes him all the more special. That being said, i'd have no issue with heavily considering any of his assistants. He has a very successful coaching tree. The guy knows people. Has he ever had a sub 500 season? As an interim head coach at Hawaii in 1976 he went 2-4. Otherwise, as head coach he had one season at Boston University where he was one game under .500 in 1980-1981. He had one .500 season at Kentucky but keep in mind he took over Kentucky under probation and sanctions for violations from Eddie Sutton before he became head coach. So he’s 42 years from a sub .500 and 31 years from a .500 season. He’s been over .500 every other season since and easily. Not close margins.

Fran Fraschilla said, along with many others, that Nerlens Noel was going to Georgetown.

The hat and the hair cut. What a reveal. Before all his injuries, that guy was a talented human pogo stick. But getting back to the matter at hand: PITINO!!!!!!

Two different people: Mike Francesca is a NYC sports show host whose main claim to fame is his friendship with Bill Parcells. Fran Frascilla is a former college coach and now play by play. Francesca does have credibility as a college basketball insider.

Isn’t that the guy who said Nerlen Noel’s was a Done Deal to Georgetown. Nerlens WAS a done deal to GU. BUT Nerlens was playing a game and basically lied for hype. I believe that, and was an easy “mistake” (“it was a done deal”) to make in any case. Nerlens attended the Sunday NCAA bracket reveal party at GU in the cafeteria when he was a senior in HS (back when that was a day to hold a party on campus). What a shock 😱 he somehow 💰 ended up at Kentucky…

At one time, in the heyday of college hoops, Francesa was CBS TV’s behind the scenes expert, feeding information to the likes of Jim Nantz. They thought so much of his knowledge that, eventually, they put him in front of the camera. He sagaciously bet Don Imus that Seton Hall would make the Final Four. Imus was to give Francesa a Porsche if that happened. That happened. Francesa let Imus off the hook.

Great story! Two amazing characters. He should have made Imus pony up.

We struggled to beat Siena.
Iona beat them by 33.
Hopefully the Gaels win the MAAC tourney and lose right away in NCAA. I could see them making a run in the NIT which could delay what most of us want to see.

It's genuinely sad to see what's become of him & Dog.

I don't think anyone's going to argue Francesca still has his fastball, but the idea he might hear stuff dealing with NY sports and a Coach he's had a lot of contact with over his career? It's certainly possible.

We appreciate your effort. We hope you will support the program. yada-yada-yada. Step two is to call in the staff and give them their walking papers and let them know no one will be retained. That is all I need prior to the end of the tourney. If Pitino is the guy, I'll wait patiently and expect the admin to have him inked the second their season ends.

Is there any concern that Brey (whom I, for one, most definitely do not want) would be willing to tolerate Ronny and that that would give him an advantage over others? Talk about a lose lose. My understanding is the opposite. There is a faction of GU hoop alum that feels frozen out by Ronny that is very supportive of Brey and he will likely be able to mend bridges with the Georgetown players---some of whom are probably angling to get involved with the program again in some form or fashion (coaching or admin staff). I don't want Brey either but I think Amaker and Dawkins are the two to worry about for your Ronny scenario---both desperately want the job and would likely tolerate Ronny---not sure Brey wants it.
