Somebody sent me this article. Yeah, I know, it’s BuzzFeed, but it’s still darkly humorous hearing stories of how Trump voters come understand how their vote would negatively impact them. Who would have thought that trusting Trump on who paid tariffs was bad idea? www.buzzfeed.com/natashajokic1/election-trump-supporters-find-out

Or maybe not so much doubts that these conversations are happening, but frustration that the message wasn't getting through before the election. I'm sure part of it is siloed media, but I have to wonder how many anti-Trump people couldn't be bothered to discuss politics with their Trumpy friends and relatives.

Some strike me as a little to on the nose, but I have no doubt that a huge number of people believe that foreign countries pay tariffs. I personally have had to explain to people I know that Trump is either lying or simply doesn’t know how they work. With his unlimited capacity for falsehood and his inability to understand even basic concepts, it’s difficult to know which is the cause of him repeatedly telling followers that foreign entities bear the brunt of tariffs. Given my conversations over the last year, and from statements made by many Trump supporters, it’s clear that an overwhelming majority of the country is economically illiterate. No degree of misunderstanding as to how the economy operates would surprise me anymore.

I don’t doubt the lack of understanding. I just doubt how many have had the scales fall off their eyes after one conversation with their liberal colleague, which occurred right after the election. But I suppose in a country with hundreds of millions of people, it could be happening often enough to populate that BuzzFeed article. Like it or not, if Trump gets his tariffs, we’re all going to experience their impact first hand.

Like it or not, if Trump gets his tariffs, we’re all going to experience their impact first hand. Absolutely, but it seems like the people who voted for Trump will be disproportionately affected by them. People who said they were living paycheck to paycheck or wanted to afford a house opted for Trump in large numbers. I was speaking to a cousin of mine who voted for Trump because he thought specifically housing would be more affordable. He works at an auto body shop. I didn’t even bother to tell him that his vote was entirely counterproductive because inflation would be eating into whatever down payment savings he was trying to amass and mortgage rates are already creeping up in anticipation of the next administration. Incidentally, this happened yesterday after I posted that article. Had this been before the election, I would have discussed all this with him. Now it’s moot; I’ll let him find out for himself. Blue collar workers have been thoroughly duped by Trump. The hens voted for the fox to lead the henhouse.

If Google Search is any indication, rubes who voted for Trump are having immediate buyer’s remorse as “how can I change my vote” is trending first by a mile. Next up are searches regarding how tariffs will affect consumers. If only these low info voters did their research BEFORE casting their vote for a narcissistic maniac. newrepublic.com/post/188357/donald-trump-search-term-change-vote
