We are on much bigger names in the DMV for 2024 and 2025 "As for how he’s going to do it, recruitment jumped out as a big priority. “'I promise you, we need to lock [the DMV] down.'” - Ed Cooley at his opening press conference georgetownvoice.com/2023/03/23/ed-cooley-arrives-on-the-hilltop-for-the-first-time-as-a-hoya/Ed Cooley's recruits since getting the Georgetown job: Drew Fielder (Meridian, ID) Dontrez Styles (Kinston, NC) Jayden Epps (Suffolk, VA - technically part of the DMV, but 200+ miles away) Rowan Brumbaugh (Washington, DC) Ismael Massoud (Bronx, NY) Thomas Sorber (Trenton, NJ) Kayvaun Mulready (Worcester, MA) Talk and action don't seem to be matching up very well so far with a ton of scholarships to offer, will be interesting to see how the local AAU and high school coaches react.

How many top transfers were available in the DMV for this year? Such a disingenuous argument to make. We snagged Brumbaugh, going to pull Williams or McKenna, we chose Sorber over the big from DC and we closed on him, and we are on a ton of 2025 talent.

Gotta find something to complain about, especially today! Let's look at our visits the last couple of months! Hunter Dickinson Caleb Williams Drew McKenna Isaiah Abraham Patrick Ngongba Nyk Lewis AJ Swinton I'm probably missing a couple, but seems to me like we're recruiting the DMV.

It will be a long-term process that will take years. We need to be calm and patient.

But we're not even getting "top transfers" according to the recruiting experts - that's the whole point. It would be one thing if we were snagging well-known, highly rated recruits from areas outside the DMV. But according to On3's rankings, our transfer portal recruit rankings are #63, #87, #231, and unranked (they only go up to #300 and Massoud didn't make it). www.on3.com/transfer-portal/top/basketball/2023/Individually, I think there's a solid argument for bringing in most of the guys that we have to this point. But collectively, only 2 of the 7 recruits Cooley has snagged are from the DMV, and 1 of those barely qualifies. The next guy coming in for an official visit is from Georgia. It's a fine strategy to have, to recruit players that you think are the best fits, no matter where they're from. But then don't go talking about locking down the DMV or be surprised/upset when local coaches/influencers steer players in different directions.

The guy has been here for a few months. You are going to go with those you have the best ties with from your prior gig. It will take a bit to rebuild the DC pipeline but it wasn't like we were swimming in DC talent the past six years. He said we need to get a couple. One of the perks of Gtown over Providence is probably the national recruiting foot print. Let's give the guy a full year and at least two recruiting classes to determine how he is doing in rebuilding DC ties. We aren't even at his first Kenner yet man.

Boya, I like what the coach has done thus far. Our Hoyas have to redeem themselves so the area recruits are honored to be a Hoya. The coach is structuring a team that will attract DMV talent.

"Donnie Freeman Helping Syracuse Recruit Elite Talent... "I'm recruiting two players from my team (Team Takeover) really hard," Freeman said. "I'm recruiting Caleb Williams (2024 forward) really hard. He's probably going to put it out himself, but he's eyeing a visit I think. He's eyeing a visit sometime soon. When he locks that in, I'm assuming he's going to put it out himself, but I'm recruiting Caleb Williams really hard. Big Pat (Patrick Ngongba, 2024 center), I'm recruiting really hard too. I would love to play with both of those guys. On the guard side, Jalil Bethea. He's a guard for Team Final, he lit last session up. Averaged like 23 points. I'm trying to get him as well." www.si.com/college/syracuse/recruiting/donnie-freeman-helping-syracuse-recruit-elite-talent

"When Kim English took the Providence College head coaching job, he instantly started recruiting. One of the first offers he handed out as head man of the Friars is 2024 guard Daquan Davis. Davis plays at St John’s College High School in DC and is a Baltimore native. This fits a theme of English aggressively recruiting the DMV area. Davis plays for Team Take Over on the AAU circuit, alongside big man Patrick Ngonba II. Both are visiting on an official visit this weekend." theprovidencecrier.com/2023/05/06/24-recruiting-spotlight-daquan-davis/#more-6898"Daquan Davis, a three-star point guard in the class of 2024, has narrowed his list of schools down to four: Maryland, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, and Providence. The 6-foot-1 junior out of Washington (D.C.) St. John’s has taken one official visit, thus far, to Providence. He’s also scheduled three additional official visits to his remaining finalists — Mississippi State on June 2-4, Notre Dame on June 12-14, and Maryland on June 19-20... Maryland: “Coach (David) Cox has been a person I could talk to about more than just basketball. He would call just to ask how’s school been because he once was at St. John’s himself. He comes to visit me here and there at the school which shows how bad he wants me at the school. Coach (Kevin) Willard would also reach out just to check in on me to make sure I’m good and that just showed me that they want me to be there PG.” Mississippi State: “Head Coach (Chris) Jans was heavy on keeping communication with me ever since they first offered me. He traveled down to the house just to have a conversation with me and my family and that means a lot to me as I’m looking for a home in a school and just him being able to take out of his schedule to get down to me showed me the loved they had for me.” Notre Dame: “Coach (Micah) Shrewsberry has always been an amazing guy that made it clear he wanted me to be his point guard since he was at Penn State. He made it a priority to get me on campus and stay in contact with me so I would know he’s very serious about me along with other coaches on the staff. They were all constantly checking in with me just to make sure I’m good. It’s more than just basketball.” Providence: “Coach Kim (English) and Coach Nate (Tomlinson) reach out to me each and every day and just have conversations with me like Im already there PG and most importantly like im just a person they believe in telling me how the recruitment process works and how they want me to pick a school that fits and can help me translate me game to the next level. They showed me consistency they never faded away every since they got the Providence job they’ve been hitting me and as stated before I want to have a relationship with the coach on the school I pick and there definitely making a great case with that." www.on3.com/news/daquan-davis-down-to-4-schools-maryland-mississippi-state-notre-dame-providence/

"HAMPTON, Va. – Throw out the sneaker affiliations and prove your worth; that seemed to be the theme at the Southern Jam Fest this past weekend in Virginia. From off-brand circuit to three-stripes to swoosh, stars proved their mettle at the Boo Williams Sportsplex. To that end, we managed to zero-in on the 10 prospects who stood out above the rest over the three-day event... Rooths came into the Southern Jam Fest with a big reputation for scoring the ball, leading the adidas 3SSB in scoring, and whether it was stretching the defense or using a combination of his 6-foot-7 frame and elite footwork to get to the mid-range and the basket, Rooths was a devastating defensive assignment all weekend. His motor remains in overdrive and he doubles as a feisty defender and glass cleaner on both ends of the floor." basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/southern-jam-fest-top-10-performers

Drew McKenna was the first recruit the Georgetown coaching staff contacted after Cooley took over. McKenna is quoted as saying that meant a lot to him. He has since taken an official visit and has the Hoyas in his final three.
Offered Caleb Williams who has taken a visit in the past few weeks.
Has offered Patrick Ngongba who has visited. And by the way if it turns out that it came down to taking Thomas Sorber or waiting on Ngongba to maker his decision first, Cooley clearly made the right call. Personally I feel Sorber is the better prospect.
Isaiah Abraham has an offer from Georgetown according to ESPN.
Has offered Nyk Lewis who, as a 2025 recruit, has recently taken an unofficial visit.
Brought Rowan back to DC.
Heavily pursued Hunter Dickerson.
Is going after Cam Spencer as we speak.
Based on reports from another website, Cooley has put Georgetown in a good position with 2025 area recruit Cam Ward.
Is that not enough at this early stage? Should Cooley recruit DC area guys exclusively?

"Khani Rooths, a four-star small forward in the class of 2024, will take his first official visit to Georgia on June 1-3. The 6-foot-8 junior prospect out of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy ranks as the No. 34 overall player in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking. Rooths, a native of Washington D.C., recently spoke about the Dawgs, amongst other programs recruiting him in an interview with On3. “(Georgia) has been showing me the most love as of lately,” Rooths said. “They have a new coaching staff, and I know that last year’s team wasn’t really their players. They are basically telling me that I’m going to be their player, so I want to get down there and see what is going on."... Rooths has taken unofficial visits to Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Georgetown. “I haven’t talked really with Georgetown and the new staff or really with Virginia Tech since Mike Jones left,” Rooths said previously. Maryland: “I got a good relationship with the staff; it’s like family for me over there. They’re trying to change the culture, they’re getting a lot of DMV recruits, and top guys go there. I’m looking to see what they do this next year. “Mike Jones recruited me at Virginia Tech, so he really wants me to come down there to Maryland with him.” www.on3.com/college/georgia-bulldogs/news/georgia-basketball-mike-white-set-to-host-khani-rooths-forward-official-visit/
