"Patrick Ngongba, a four-star center in the class of 2024, will take an official visit to UConn on June 12-14... Ngongba has also taken official visits to Providence and Kansas State. Iowa, Virginia, and others are also involved. He discussed a handful of programs involved in his recruitment in a previous interview with On3. It should also be noted that Ngongba and fellow four-star 2024 prospect Isaiah Abraham are cousins. They will be visiting Storrs together... “I’ve been talking Iowa and Virginia about setting visits,” Ngongba said. “We don’t have any dates set yet, but I’m looking to go see them.” www.on3.com/college/connecticut-huskies/news/uconn-basketball-danny-hurley-set-to-host-patrick-ngongba-on-official-visit/

"On3 is back on the road, this time in Memphis, the Home of the Blues & Birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll. It’s not a live period, meaning college coaches are not in attendance, scouting talent. But that didn’t stop many of the nation’s top players from showing up and showing out. Here are your top performers from Sunday... 2. C Patrick Ngongba Patrick Ngongba is proving to be one of the top big men in the class of 2024. Today, he showed touch around the rim but also stretched the floor and provided rim protection. Rebounded extremely well and even handled the ball in transition. Played extremely confident. Kansas State, UConn, Virginia, and several others are pursuing him." www.on3.com/news/sundays-top-performers-at-eybl-memphis/

"Two weeks ago in Dallas, it was clear that Patrick Ngongba had taken both his body and his game to new levels. This weekend, he has gotten better with each passing game and was utterly dominant on Sunday night when he went for 33 points, 18 rebounds, and 5 assists to lead Team Takeover over Phenom University. Ngongba’s ascension is rooted in a multitude of reasons, but first and foremost is the fact that he’s fully healthy. After missing a large portion of last year, he returned for the Peach Jam and was able to make his presence felt despite not being anywhere near the player we see now. In the ten months since, he’s improved his conditioning, gotten vastly more mobile, and consistently extended his game, both in terms of his overall impact and the places on the court he’s able to impact the game from. Now, he looks like one of the very best big men in the national class and it’s leading to wins on the floor as Takeover was a perfect 3-0 through two days this weekend." 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/article/college-basketball-recruiting-eybl-memphis-rob-wright-tre-johnso-210873519/

"Recruiting can often come down to supply and demand. In the rising senior class of 2024, one of the most glaring deficiencies is the lack of high-major caliber point guard prospects. In other words, there isn’t nearly enough supply to match the total demand that we see in a typical year. Because of that, college coaches are doing two things. They’re working to make inroads with the few points guards that have already emerged and simultaneously looking for others who have the potential to follow-suit in the weeks, months, and maybe even years to come. One such player is Team Durant’s Del Jones. On Friday, he didn’t have his best performance. He scored 12 points on on 5-12 shooting from the floor, including 0-4 from behind the three-point line, while handing out 4 assists, turning the ball over 5 times, and grabbing 5 rebounds. Nevertheless, he was still a focal point for Team Durant as they knocked off Team CP3. While he didn’t have a great shooting night, his stroke is clearly projectable. He’s got a good natural feel for the game, presence at the position, and command of his team. Consequently, it was no surprise to hear that Tennessee became the latest school to offer on Friday, joining a long list that also includes Ole Miss and Arizona State among a host of others." 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/article/college-basketball-recruiting-eybl-patrick-ngongba-marcus-allen--210155018/“It felt great to get the offer,” Jones continued. “I have seen the play. Tennessee is a great school and Coach Barnes is a great coach. I like the program and how they play. In addition to the Volunteers, Jones says Arizona State, Ole Miss, Oregon, and Providence are the schools pursuing him aggressively. He discussed each program with 247Sports: Arizona State: “They recently offered me but I have been talking to them for two months. I was on the phone with of their assistant coaches and he told me that they love my game. They love how tough I am and feel I will fit into their system. They said they are going to start recruiting me hard.” Ole Miss: “They are showing me that I am a priority right now. Chris Beard pulled up to my school last week. The whole staff talked to me and let me know that I am a priority.” Oregon: “With Kwame Evans over there, I know that there will be family there. I played with him last year and I already know the guys. The Pac-12 conference is a different league but I like their program. They are recruiting me hard and I like what they are talking about.” Providence: “I like the way they play. That school brings home vibes with Kim English being from Maryland. I feel like I will fit in their style. Coach English is a cool dude. We talk every week and I like him.” 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/article/del-jones-arizona-state-tennessee-providence-ole-miss-210326155/"Del Jones is down to eight schools, he tells On3. Among the remaining contenders are Arizona State, Clemson, Ole Miss, Oregon, Providence, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and West Virginia. Jones has yet to schedule any official visits but he has visited Tennessee unofficially. Jones is currently averaging 10.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game for Team Durant on the EYBL Circuit. He ranks as the No. 76 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 12 point guard in the class." www.on3.com/news/del-jones-down-to-eight-schools-arizona-state-clemson-ole-miss-oregon-providence-tennessee-texas-am-west-virginia/

"Daquan Davis, a three-star point guard in the class of 2024, has set his commitment date for June 25th. The 6-foot-1 junior out of Washington (D.C.) St. John’s is down to four schools: Maryland, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, and Providence... According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Davis ranks as the No. 123 overall prospect in the 2024 class. He’s also the nation’s No. 21 point guard and the No. 4 player in D.C." www.on3.com/news/daquan-davis-sets-commitment-date-maryland-mississippi-state-notre-dame-providence/

Typical of Duke to just sit back and wait for the recruit to rise in rankings.

He currently ranks as the No. 88 overall prospect in the class but that is due for a big, big change with how much he has improved in the last six months and how he has played with Team Takeover... "It means a lot," he said of receiving a Duke offer. "They're one of the highest programs in the country so it means a lot." "He [Jon Scheyer] was just saying he got to see how I was getting better each time and stuff like that," he added. "He said I play hard and stuff like that." Ngongba is teammates with Darren Harris, another Duke commit, on the AAU circuit and on his high school team. "He was pretty excited about it," he said of Harris' reaction. Aside from the recent Duke offer, there are three schools who have been prioritizing him this spring including Kansas State, Providence and UConn. 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/article/patrick-ngonga-breaks-out-among-the-best-bigs-talks-growing-recr-210987817/

Typical of Duke to just sit back and wait for the recruit to rise in rankings. "As we learned earlier this week, Duke offered big man Patrick Ngongba and of course, Duke is not the only school interested. UConn, Indiana, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Pitt, Notre Dame, Georgetown, Iowa, Maryland have offered, and Syracuse too. In this article from Inside The Loud House, we hear a lament that has become familiar recently: Syracuse does the legwork, identifies a talented young prospect early, only to see more prominent schools swoop in and negate that hard work." www.dukebasketballreport.com/2023/6/2/23746410/duke-basketball-recruiting-syracuse-orange-patrick-ngongba

90% of this thread is dedicated to Ngongba…
Just out of curiosity, did we essentially choose Sorber over Ngongba because Cooley thinks Sorber has more potential or because we have no chance with Ngongba…?

Doesn't have to be an either/or, particularly if Sorber reclassifies to 2023. You continue recruiting a 5* big man in your backyard that plays for the top area AAU program and for a perennial powerhouse high school program.

"Khani Rooths is one of the most versatile prospects in the 2024 class. At 6-foot-7, Rooths can drain threes with marksman-like accuracy, handle the ball to create his own shot and make plays for teammates like a seasoned point guard and score through contact like a workhorse in the paint... Rooths used that experience to dominate right away, leading the adidas 3SSB in scoring after the first session in April, pumping in 24 points a game. That earned him an invite to the adidas Eurocamp in Treviso, Italy from June 9-11. Those accolades and production have brought out a who’s who of college basketball heavyweights drooling at the thought of landing him. The latest programs to jump in for Rooths? Duke, Kansas, Michigan State, Michigan, Mississippi State, Oregon, Texas Tech, Florida, LSU and Georgia Tech. Rooths finished up an official visit to Georgia this weekend and has taken unofficial visits to Virginia Tech, Maryland and Georgetown." basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/khani-rooths-is-a-matchup-nightmare

Props to Ngongba for going off and getting that MVP. But if Cooley’s plan was to only bring in one big for 2024 (or if reclassification became out of the question and he could only bring in one for 2024), then I have little to no regrets that Sorber became our guy.

It's been Uconn and Nova for him for awhile. Props to Cooley though, he has targeted the right kids in this cycle. I'm hoping to see a Caleb Williams commitment shortly after this official. Today is the first day of practice correct?
