I wonder how that combination will work because I don't believe Kerwin plays much D. I wonder why he was so deep in Hubert's doghouse? Well we get to matchup with one of Ewing's recruiting losses early in the year.

Northwestern at home in the BE/B10 challenge is gross. We still pull more eyeballs than anyone in the BE and that's the match up that we draw?

From the front page: “The Wildcats return four starters from a 15-16 team;”
We return four players. 😷

Northwestern at home in the BE/B10 challenge is gross. We still pull more eyeballs than anyone in the BE and that's the match up that we draw? It's better than Nebraska (10-22), which Georgetown was likely to get. The Huskers were moved to St. John's instead. By NET rankings, Northwestern (#91) is the highest ranked non-conference opponent at home this season. And assuming Georgetown is not returning a game to Dartmouth, that leaves five home games to fill on the schedule. A guess, but the five are likely to come out of a group of recent opponents, plus the Jamaica Classic teams not participating in the island bracket. UMES (11-16) Howard (16-13) Delaware St. (2-25) American (10-22) Radford (9-18) Coppin St. (9-23) UMBC (17-14) Longshots: Chicago St. (7-25) Wisconsin-Milwaukee (9-22)

In a vacuum I like our roster over likely every team in our non-conference slate besides T Tech (assuming they don’t schedule another high major). That speaks more to the scheduling than it does the strength of our team, as I would expect maybe one or two of those high major squads will be in the tournament. Still, enough opportunities to put yourself on strong footing come conference play.

UCSB has reached out to the Hoyas for a game at Georgetown. Will be interesting to see if the Hoyas take it. Any update on if this has stalled/progressed? Would love it as an addition to the schedule.

Honestly I think playing Northwestern in the Gavitt Games is kind of cool. Academically minded institution, competes for the same students that we do, traditionally terrible at basketball but honestly they're about on par with how we've done the past 5-7 years. Better than Nebraska or Minnesota, and at least we have one more home conference foe in addition to South Carolina that students have heard of.
I don't mind it, and the early season schedule at this point gives us enough challenges while providing a whole new roster time to gel.

Ranking the 8 matchups for 2022 Gavitt Tipoff Games 8. Northwestern at Georgetown The Hoyas are coming off a season where they didn’t win a single Big East game. And while they did land several transfers that should have an impact going forward, losing leading scorer Aminu Mohammed to the pro ranks is going to limit how much better they’ll be in 2022-23. Northwestern also lost its best player this offseason in Pete Nance to North Carolina, setting them back as well. Guards Boo Buie and Chase Audiege will lead the offense but a shaky frontcourt gives them concern as well. This is a matchup that has little intrigue overall but could have the losing head coach’s seat even hotter. bustingbrackets.com/2022/06/29/ncaa-basketball-ranking-8-matchups-2022-gavitt-tipoff-games/2/

Ranking the 2022 Gavitt Games 8. Northwestern at Georgetown This game features two teams that both finished below .500 in 2020-21, with the Hoyas only racking up a grand total of six wins. It’s easily the least attractive Gavitt Games matchup, but there are still a few points to look at. The Hoyas’ outlook is arguably the bleakest of the two conferences. Georgetown lost its two top scorers, as Aminu Mohammed left for the NBA after his freshman year and Donald Carey transferred across the DMV to Maryland. Patrick Ewing’s squad will be led by Dante Harris and Maryland transfer via Georgetown, Qudus Wahab. Also expected to be key contributors are sophomores Ryan Mutombo and UConn transfer Akok Akok. The top player to watch is on the Northwestern side, as Boo Buie returns for his fourth season with the Wildcats. Last year, the 6’2″ guard averaged 14.1 points per game and could contend for a first-team all-conference nod with another strong season. While the Wildcats return a star and the Hoyas bring in some intriguing transfers, neither team is getting a lot of serious buzz, due to the trajectory of both programs. It’s sort of a “see it or believe it” with either team, and this game won’t move the needle, no matter who takes it. Early Prediction: Northwestern – 68, Georgetown – 62 cbbreview.com/2022/06/28/ranking-the-2022-gavitt-games/

No mention of Murray at all who is the highest ranked transfer we got and Harris might not even start.

Didn’t realize NW returned 4/5 starters and won 7 games in the B10 last year. They should be top 75 so this will be a Quad 2 game at home against a team with a very solid (and experienced) backcourt. Obviously not the pull of a brand name but better than my initial thoughts indicated. Don’t think USC will be good (maybe in the top 100) but the rest of our P6 opponents will be the top 75 giving us at a minimum 4 Quad 1/2 games in the non-conference (Cuse and TTU likely 1 and Wake/NW likely 2). If we can just not schedule the 300+ dregs of the world then we’ve got a really nice chance to have 3-4 quad 1/2 wins going into conference and a really solid record of like 9-2 or 10-1.
