With 2 St. John's games, Butler and Seton Hall still on the schedule, there should be a minimum of four BE wins for this team. That is an insanely low bar but after getting the monkey off their backs, this group should be able to salvage a 4-16 record. After our game Saturday, the schedule is pretty daunting with Providence, UConn, Marquette and Creighton on the docket. 9-22 heading into the Big East tourney is awful but maybe we can win one and head into our coaching search with some momentum.

Reminder about how clueless/delusional Patrick Ewing is, revisiting the above statement. An update on Texas Tech, who blew us out in the OOC: "After losing to West Virginia on Wednesday, the Red Raiders are dead last in the Big 12 with a record of 10-10 overall and 0-8 in league play. And making matters worse, the team has nothing to speak of in the non-conference, with the victories over power conference teams being Georgetown and Louisville... This is a team with mediocre guard play and mediocre defense, which is supposed to be what Coach Mark Adams’ teams are good at. There’s nothing to suggest that this team can make a late-season comeback and is doomed to last place." bustingbrackets.com/2023/01/26/big-12-basketball-buy-sell-kansas-iowa-state-baylor-texas-tcu/

Not American or USCe or Siena? You're going with TTU?🤣

And making matters worse, the team has nothing to speak of in the non-conference, with the victories over power conference teams being Georgetown and Louisville... Georgetown and Texas Tech were pre-assigned in the Big East-Big 12 series based on records and predicted outcome;, i.e., both were predicted for the bottom. TTech is talented but inconsistent, and its problems on defense are exposed in the Big 12, much as they were in that game, where they gave up 19 turnovers and a 17-0 run to the Hoyas but still won. Mark Adams is feeling terh heat and Tech is not above cutting its losses given Adams' age (66) and relative inexperience as a head coach. The Big East-Big 12 series has two years remaining. Georgetown will likely get a home game in 2023-24 against a low tier Big 12 opponent (think a Big 12 newcomer like BYU or Central Florida) and host a home game in the Big 10 Gavitt Games against a low-ranked B10 team: an early guess would be Minnesota. Other schedule items: 1. Syracuse returns as a home game, perhaps for the last time, and the South Carolina series has ended. I would not be surprised, were there a change at Syracuse, to see this series go away as it is so closely tied to the Boeheim legacy and a new coach would probably want to get a series closer to its fan base (read=Connecticut) 2. Georgetown has not publicly committed to any multi-team event (aka in-season tournament) for 2023-24 and many of the major events are already filled up.

I would guess that an excuse to have your entire staff in DC for high school games on a Friday night would appeal to any possible new coach at Syracuse.

One (more) reason to hire a ready to go/prime time/proven new coach is to get back in the mix for big, early season tournaments -- I don't want another OOC that is lame so the coach can (try to) acclimate to the big time. I miss Maui...If there is ANY hope at all a guy like me sticks around it is NOT so I can see us travel to dismal places to play dismal teams and see how things go...

Big win for Northwestern yesterday. On the road yet. Big one from a perception standpoint for Chris Collins, for sure. Big win in reality? Not really - Michigan State is 5-4 this season and ranked #92 in the NET. They're not a very good team and people that follow college basketball know that. Same thing will happen when we beat Syracuse next weekend. From a perception standpoint, it will help Ewing, since Syracuse is still a big name. Syracuse is #181 in the NET. This is now a Quad 1 win for Northwestern...I am pretty sure Collins and any coach in America will be happy with that...

Of our final 10 regular season games, only 2 are against teams in the bottom 5 of the conference with us (at Butler and hosting the Johnnies). The rest include two against both Providence and Creighton (the first of those of course hosting Blue Jays, which just crushed Xavier, Wednesday). We’ll thus have n ample opportunity to see how much the last two games were about the foes and how much about Hoyas….

I have a lot of respect for those of you who still truly care about whether we win or lose, who are analyzing what each game tells us about the potential for the rest of the season, etc. The whole thing is such an abject disaster - I can't get myself remotely invested in anything that happens until we hire a new coach.
I am still watching the games and rooting for wins. But I can't work up any level of true passion about the outcomes of games or about how many games we win/lose over the rest of the season.

Speaking solely for myself, don’t mistake paying attention for caring much about wins and losses, thinking there’s much potential for the rest of the season or, especially, “investment” (beyond this year’s sunk cost of season tickets). Generational train wrecks of this magnitude are simply hard to ignore…

I only care about wins and loses while the game is being played. Afterward the buzzer I'll vent for about a hour and then move on. Back to waiting for the season to end and hopefully this coaching nightmare to end.

It was amusing to read through the early part of this thread and see the fretting that the bad schedule would impact an at large tournament bid. And then we have these doozies: Stop the doom and gloom. We are going 10-1 OOC and at least 12-8 in conference. 7 seed in the dance. Put it in writing. By February, we will already be fast approaching 20 wins and our focus will be on the BE regular season title. Yikes
