Coaches chase portal kids because their players are transferring in droves. In the first interview Hurley gave after losing in the tourney he talked about looking for experience in the back-court, he’s since made a good amount of offers to guards.. Plus let’s be honest here and admit that the great amount of these transfers are coaches pushing kids out…

The 2nd quote really highlights the reason why the portal has so many kids in it, most kids aren't looking for greener pastures they're just looking for a place to land. www.ctinsider.com/uconn/article/transfers-UConn-men-s-basketball-dan-hurley-17079758.php“I think the core of Adama and Jordan and Andre with Tristen, that’s a strong four,” Hurley said. “You’ve got three guys that are legitimate NBA-level prospects with length and athleticism and talent and skill around a potential All-American, preseason player of the year in the Big East. I love the spot we’re in. We can go into next season with our best team.” “For the most part, I understand the basketball moves made by the guys who left,” Hurley said. “The last two years, we made a lot of progress but it’s not up to the standard that I’d like it to be. It was very clear that we needed to get better in the late signing period here. I get that their roles had diminished where it made sense for them to leave, for the most part. Part of why they’re leaving is because we understand we have to go out and get better.”

As expected. Wow! It will be fun to watch him and Posh Alexander go at lighting speed, but not against GU.

So far we’ve swapped Murray for Mohammed. That’s still darn close to running back 0-20. We need more talent!

Beyond Scheyer though, who are the new coaches best positioned to achieve recruiting success right from the jump? 1. SEAN MILLER, XAVIER The last time Sean Miller roamed the sidelines at Xavier, the program was in the Atlantic 10 Conference and Miller was perceived as one of the nation’s best young coaches. Now, they’re in the Big East and Miller is back, after spending 12 seasons at Arizona and last year away from coaching. The other major difference is that Miller is now one of the most recognizable names in all of college coaching — a brand in and of himself, if you will. When Miller walks into the gym, people recognize him right away, and he has a long history of recruiting and developing future pros to sell in the process. Miller has also assembled an excellent staff. By retaining Dante Jackson from Travis Steele’s staff, Miller not only helped solidify the return of Xavier’s core lineup, but also two key incoming 2022 recruits in four-star wing Kam Craft and four-star point guard Desmond Claude. Landing Adam Cohen from Stanford as associate head coach gives Miller someone who is known for his ability to evaluate and his national recruiting contacts. Finally, while Xavier and Miller have both changed since their first run together, there’s no denying the familiarity with the lay of the land will help ease the transition and allow him to get to work sooner than most first-year head coaches. 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/College-basketball-new-coaches-set-up-for-recruiting-success-Sean-Miller-Todd-Golden-Dennis-Gates-Kenny-Payne-Archie-Miller-186410351/While it is still early in the portal season, On3 takes a look at some college programs at all levels that are off to a hot start building their rosters through the portal. Providence Friars (Big East) Very few teams in the country are riding a wave as high as Providence was coming off last season. However, with that Big East championship comes roster turnover. They return the battle-tested backcourt of A.J. Reeves and Jared Bynum. Cooley found a lot of success last season with four around one type line ups. So far, in the portal, they have brought in youth, experience, and most importantly, talent. Freshman Devin Carter SG from South Carolina 2021-22 stats: 9.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 0.9 steals, 42-percent from the field Devin Carter comes from NBA lineage as his dad Anthony Carter played for more than ten years and is currently an assistant coach with the Miami Heat. Carter was 1st team SEC All-freshman last season and the aggressive downhill wing continued getting better as the season went on. Grad transfer Noah Locke SG from Louisville 2021-22 stats: 9.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, 68 made threes Noah Locke’s calling card is his shooting. Through three seasons and Florida and on3 at Louisville, Locke has made 285 threes at a 38.7-percent clip. A dangerous marksman. Grad transfer Clifton Moore C from La Salle 2021-22 stats: 12.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, 49-percent from the field. Clifton Moore is a big, hulking center who will have no problem manning the paint for the Friars. Moore entered Indiana as a 195-pound forward and has bulked up to a 240–pound force. Moore’s cousins include Julius Peppers, Olympian Taylor Ellis-Watson, and former top-100 wing Jordan Tucker. www.on3.com/news/three-early-winners-of-college-basketballs-transfer-portal-season/
