As usual, Michael Steele has it right. Unfortunately, it now seems that a retraction and/or apology from Fox was never in the cards, since it wasn't something that the judge or jury could have required from Fox as part of any judgment. My guess is that Dominion could have offered to settle for a penny plus an apology and a retraction, and the Fake News Network would have said no, thanks. Unsatisfying in the extreme, but there it is. The best part of this settlement is that other lawsuits against Fox are still to come, but the morons and imbeciles will go on believing that the election was stolen for years to come.

Losers SYDNEY — Fox Corporation chief executive Lachlan Murdoch dropped a defamation case against an independent Australian publisher Friday, just days after Fox News ended its own defamation ordeal in the United States with a $787.5 million settlement. The decision avoids what promised to be a public rehashing Down Under of the damaging claims made by Dominion Voting Systems against Fox News in the United States, as the Australian news website Crikey and its parent company prepared to use documents from the American case in their defense. www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/04/21/lachlan-murdoch-crikey-defamation-australia/

Dream on Geraghty. You're incredibly naive and are going to be proven wrong. Fox Prop will keep its propagandists to feed its drivel to its moronic, clueless audience but will simply be less specific in naming particular parties it alleges are part of the radical socialist conspiracies. And Fox, along with the racist, fascist and anti-Semitic MAGA GOP, will continue to link it all back to Soros. The Fox News settlement signals the end of an era for loose-cannon hosts A new mentality almost certainly took hold at every cable-news network on Tuesday: When what-will-they-say-next hosts speak, what they say next could help prompt a billion-dollar defamation lawsuit. Watch for cable-news outfits to decommission their loose-cannon hosts — not to squelch free speech but to avoid wrecking revenue. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/04/21/fox-news-settlement-hosts-impact/

I am wondering whether the shareholder derivative lawsuits that are coming has scared the Fox board into action.

I am wondering whether the shareholder derivative lawsuits that are coming has scared the Fox board into action. This seems to be the trajectory of the “it” Fox News hosts: an absolute flameout (like Bill O’Reilly and Glen Beck, the two biggest talking heads of their time). Hopefully he will end up in the relative obscurity of pitching gold on infomercials. Please be the end of this doughy pile of excrement.

Hopefully he will end up in the relative obscurity of hawking gold on infomercials. Please be the end of this doughy pile of excrement. Or maybe part of a secret settlement agreement? Dominion agreed not to disclose this with the understanding that Fox would send Carlson packing! Or maybe he runs for office!

Apparently it was not his constant lies or Fox's fear of further liability that got him canned, but rather the negative views about management he expressed in the text messages disclosed as part of the Dominion case. In any event, I believe "money talks" - and this settlement is already paying dividends. I hope Tucker doesn't let the door hit him on the way out, and enjoys his 8pm timeslot on Newsmax, OAN or whatever other extreme channel is willing to hire him.

If this is the rationale, doesn't pretty much everyone else have to go as well?

If this is the rationale, doesn't pretty much everyone else have to go as well? This explanation is nonsense. If that were the reason, what took Fox so long to fire him?

I think the Abby Grossberg lawsuit may be a factor here. She has 90 tapes and Carlson is an avowed misogynist. I speculate that some of redacted e-mails disclosed in discovery in adfition to the tapes will portray an actionable toxic work environment. Remember that both Ailes and O'Reilly got sacked for sexual misconduct not for editorial or any on-the-air conduct.

If anyone is interested, I am very happy Tucker is gone. Now I hope they show the door to Hannity also.

Because the best/most job security an employee in a large company can ever have is to be a key witness in a large litigation against the company.
