Dante, Blair, Q, Bile, and Pickett weren't world beaters there first 5 games either. Bile was the antichrist on this board at one point early in the season last year. It takes time. Look around college basketball. Iona beat Bama. Dayton beat Kansas. Maryland loses to George Mason and struggles to get wins against the likes of Hofstra. It is early in the season. And we weren't good last year. We got rolling, caught some breaks, guys were out with injuries and Covid and we stole a bid. But it wasn't a good team. You can't point to other teams with track records of success and say it happens. We have been legit terrible. These are bad losses to bad teams. Hoyas improved like crazy throughout the year last year. They struggled badly early and in January got it sorted out to start making a difference and the last few games of BE regular season play they were playing rather well. Blair was benched and then came off the bench, which limited his defensive lack of effort. It wasn't luck last year it was coaches making drastic changes to player's game and players putting in the work and hustling. As a fan of basketball this is what you love to see, no matter if it is your favorite team or some other team. Seeing teams gel and players grow greatly is why college basketball is fantastic.

We don’t have a big enough shovel to climb out of the holes we dig Early leader in the Hoyatalk T-shirt logo contest.

How do they not get a shot off after not being fouled. Just poor basketball play to close the game out after a valiant second half effort. Carey had 2 reasonable looks on both possessions. If he rises and shoots after receiving the pass on the 1st possession and he had a decent look before passing to Colin. Who didn't have a shot... Definitely think he should have shot the first one. It looked to me like he had three guys on him on the final possession and passing to Colin was the right play.

Did you watch the game? Dante Harris had a good game and literally had two turnovers that came right after each other but was rock solid with the ball otherwise. You make it sound like he was turnover machine all game. I will grant that he ran out of steam in the last 5 minutes I don't think he ran out of steam, he just got caught in no man's land which he does at times. We need better than under a point per shot. He was far from the main culprit, but was getting too much praise for a not so good game. With 5 minutes left he was 7-15 with 6 assists and 0 turnovers. Yes he had a rough final 5, but his game tonight was faaaaaar from “so bad”. In fact I would call it a solid game, with a stretch in there where he was undeniably excellent. I’m not a Dante apologist, I’m just confused how that game could be labeled the way you labeled it.

Carey was scared to shoot at the end and passed up a lot of shots versus SDSU. I’m a fan, but that’s a Bad look for a team captain… He has value but I am ready for Riley to take more of his minutes and learn to play at this level. Riley is really stuggling with the game and tonight looked badly lost. He has had a couple good games, but he hasn't sorted out the changes he needs to make in his game yet. It takes a lot more than minutes to do that. He will get it and be a really good Hoya. Don is having to cover outside his role and skill set, which are skills Reilly doesn't remotely have yet and take a lot of work with helping with on ball skills and light point duty. Don is lacking with these as well, but not as badly as Reilly. Getting there takes a lot of film and working through drills to see the game with a very different eye. Don is a really good set shooter and good drive and kick. Reilly is decent outside shooting, okay drive and kick, okay driving with traffic, and amazing in transition with the ball in his hands one-on-one. Don's defense is a bit better than Reilly's at the moment as Reilly is still doing middle school chase the ball, which is plauging the freshman right now, but also not rotating. All of this is learnable, but not something minutes alone helps. Riley is in the rotation, but not remotely ready to start. Not in the slightest.

Yeah they did improve, but they still were not a good team. Average to bad teams are capable of playing well over short stretches. I don't have as much of an issue with the coaching as many here do. I take issue with the player acquisition. You need horses. We don't have anywhere near enough.

I know everyone is Editeded right now but I saw alot of good forward steps and some issues that may not be resolved. The biggest thing that is a negative for this team is defensive communication has got to be better. The person who needs to lead that is Tim and I don't think he had enough basketball acumen to do that.

Maybe Aminu will stay more than one year. He made comments along those lines when he committed. He knew he was coming into a very young team that was a good recruiting class, but would take a year to get it going. Also, while he's an excellent player for a freshman, he's not a draft pick right now. He'd have to make HUGE strides for that to change within one year.

We earned the Big East title and an NCAA bid. But nice try.

And then obviously recruiting. Outside of Aminu, recruiting has been atrocious, retention has been atrocious, and player development has been nothing to write home about. We just don't have talent. That falls on Ewing.

But, is still leading the BE in assists / turnover ratio.

We stole a bid and were just happy to be there, the Colorado game showed it. We didn't belong. And I'm not taking anything away from the kids. I just won't give a reprieve to the coaching staff who has not met the expectations of coaching at this level.
