If he was looking for early minutes I can't fault the selection. I don't think we would be in a comparable spot with all the guys we have this year and if King and/or Muhammad come back. That's even before Livingston commits to us. Good luck to the kid and I hope it works out well for him. Maintain the relationship just in case it comes full circle in a few years.

This is mildly disappointing. BUT, keep in mind we are still in on Jaylen Martin, Otega Oweh, Ryan Dunn and obviously Chris Livingston (THE BIG FISH). Christian Watson to Miami will be all but forgotten if we get a commit from one of the listed guys. Livingston + Martin would be HUGE.
In addition, if Aminu Mohammed stays for his sophomore year, then it's like we get an extra commit --- a 5 STAR one at that. I'd take Aminu staying a second year over Christian Watson all day, every day. Based on Watson's comments, it sounds like freshman playing time was his biggest thing. He likely wasn't going to see a whole lot if Aminu and Jordan Riley are ahead of him.
Onto the next one.

Yeah Miami is definitely a spot if you want big minutes early, similar to how much we could offer riley at our low point last year

Miami have established DMV pipeline: James Palmer (transferred to Nebraska), Chris Lykes (transferred to Arkansas) , Jakai Robinson, Earl Timberlake, Chris Watson. Even though Palmer/Timberlake haven't panned out, but it's been a decent haul of talent.

Making pretty big money as a college student in Miami sounds like an amazing time so can’t blame him

I like Watson and think he'll be a solid, versatile college player, but having read his recent commentary about Georgetown, his successful June unofficial visit, the staff and its expressed versatility of his game, the campus being only 25 minutes from his home and thus his family's ability to see all his home games, and his looking forward to his upcoming official visit on 9/17, I felt he was close to a lock...and the fact that he wouldn't at least wait until his official visit to compare options, suggests to me that we may have no longer been an option and may have told him that we had another commitment or were moving in another direction...the playing time argument makes some sense but we lose Carey and Rice and Aminu is a possibility, and its well known that we've been recruiting a SF out of need going forward, so a competitive playing time opportunity would seem to be available...I guess we'll know once everything unfolds and we see who we end up with...I hope this is the case rather than simply "losing" him to Miami...

Personally prefer Dunn to Watson and hope they go hard for him now. And if that doesn’t work, save the 1-2 spots for winter break transfers and de-commits or late bloomers in the spring.
Miami was bad last year and don’t figure to be much better this year, Larranaga is in his 70s, the book may not be closed on Watson if they have a coaching change.

Have never seen him play but his shooting stats are awful for a 3. 62% FT low 20's from 3 and 37% for 2's. I get that he played on one of the local elite HS programs but he hasn't been very efficient in college.

Watson's shooting stats in ACC play are even worse. 25% FG, 0% from 3(o for 10), and 55% FT percentage. Not sure this will upgrade us--might be more of the same

Not the greatest fit here. Not a position of "need" & lack of proven college production. Not writing him off - just not for us, unless circumstances change.
Funny to look back and see a major reason he chose Miami was early minutes...

Plus, we are 3 deep there Styles, McKenna and Williams Yeah. This is the one position where we least need someone. If he were a proven stud looking for a change of scenery, that would be one thing. But PG, big, and elite shooter are much bigger needs right now.
