Any team that sees that damn 2-3 zone a few times learns how to play it, and ‘cuse is a just a mediocre (at best team). But in the tournament where they can’t play a conference foe early or non-con rematch (really they never play anyone decent minus us anyway in non-conf) they completely confuse their opponents. It’s infuriating.

I am surprised more teams don’t follow Boeheim’s strategy given how effective it is in March.

I hate to admit it, but Syracuse does well in the NCAAs.

While upsets are what makes the event so great, every tournament you come away with pretty clear evidence that one or two conferences were given unwarranted respect and one or two less appreciated than they should have been relative to seeding.
This year was even more susceptible to that than most because of the relatively limited number of games between conferences. Clearly, the Big Ten wasn’t as good as everyone (including the committee) thought. And clearly, the Pac12 (now 6-0 though one of those “Ws” was via forfeit) was better than everyone thought. Bummer that we were on the wrong end of the result of that dynamic - pretty obvious CO is actually closer to a 3 seed than a 5. But we were on the receiving end of Gillespie’s/Nova’s misfortune in BET, so I guess it all evens out.

But we were on the receiving end of Gillespie’s/Nova’s misfortune in BET, so I guess it all evens out. I think it was really suspect of the NCAA to award 9 Big 10 and 7 ACC teams to the tournament. It was obvious to me that the ACC was overrated when a bad Marquette team killed North Carolina. Michigan and Ohio State didn't play a single game out of conference vs a power 5. Baylor killed Illinois and Missouri beat Illinois. Illinois only beat low seeded Ohio by 2. They beat Duke (but Duke isn't in the tournament and were a bubble team had they not pulled out of the ACC). Wisconsin which was ranked top 5 early in the season, lost to a bad Marquette team though they did beat Loyala Chicago. Even with the limited data we had there was enough there to see that the Big 10 and ACC were overrated and certainly didn't deserve a bonanza of NCAA selections. There was no reason to allow the Big 10 to just keep reshuffling the top 25 rankings within their conference and there should have been a more equitable distribution of bids to schools other than the Big 10/ACC, especially in this COVID year.

Let’s not forget that every bid is cash money to the conference. Big ten probably already the wealthiest and I’m sure there was pressure to deliver them the mother lode. I’m not sure what capability there is to right these wrongs in the future other than the other conferences complaining and putting pressure to alter selections in the future.

I also think ESPN has a hand on this for the ACC teams and rankings. Not sure what network the Big 10 is on. PAC was surely hurt by the lack of a network

They have their own rankings and people that ore certainly see the other rankings...this year was an anomaly with Covid and lack of out of conference - everyone just changes their votes from the prior week based on wins and losses - so once big10 had a lot of ranked teams - it was inevitable they just shuffled around. I can’t stand espn anymore they don’t show top 10 or scores - it’s all just commercial for their programming.

The defense in this Oregon/Iowa game is nothing short of atrocious.

It's a completely explainable (and excusable) given the pandemic. But the underseeding of the Pac-12 is incredible. You basically have to say they all should have been two or three lines above where they were. Conservatively. Not just one or two of them. All of them.

Oregon has missed a bunch of bunnies. This should be a 25 point game right now.

Doesn't matter what seed we are, I'm confident we can compete. Barring utter collapse this is our fourth trip to the Sweet 16 in our past five tournament appearances. The team looked capable last year, too, before the tournament was canceled.
