With UConn defeating SHU and SJU about to finish off Providence, here are the Hoyas' BET seeding scenarios by my quick math: 5th: W at UConn + Xavier loss at Marquette + SJU loss vs. SHU 6th: W at UConn + either Xavier loss at Marquette OR SJU loss vs. SHU 7th: W at UConn + Xavier win at Marquette + SJU win vs. SHU 7th: L at UConn + Prov loss vs. Nova + Butler loss at Creighton 8th: L at UConn + Prov win vs. Nova OR Butler win at Creighton 9th: L at UConn + Prov win vs. Nova + Butler win at Creighton I think 7th is highly possible now. (and getting out of Nova's side of the bracket) It looks like regardless of the UConn outcome it would come down to Creighton beating Butler. Thanks Rockaway for the update. We have got to beat UConn; simple and plain!!!

With the Gillespie injury...perhaps we don’t mind being the 8 seed and playing move in the 2nd round.

I watched the Creighton attempted comeback against Nova. With Gillespie out and Mitchell playing aggressive on ball defense, Nova could hardly get into their offense.

I think they went 10 mins and only scored 2 points. On one hand we want them strong enough to beat PC (who looked listless against SJ last night), but also if they were to lose and we wound up in the 8/9 game, they certainly seem beatable. All in all I think the BE tournament is now wide open, and if I had to pick, I might lean towards Uconn right now (sigh).

/photo/1This tweet breaks down all the scenarios and their likelihood. Great visual. Summary is that the 7 seed vs Marquette or Butler is our most likely scenario. Going into last game, I would have said this was the preferred scenario for us, but now with Nova’s injury and Uconn’s emergence on the other side of the draw, it honestly isn’t as much a clear advantage as it was. Obviously the scenario where we get to 5 would be a dream scenario as avoiding Weds, drawing Seton Hall on Thursday and then a Nova/PC/Butler winner potentially on Friday night seems like a path where we’d have a real shot of making the final. Clearly getting ahead of myself since we haven’t seen even Thursday in a while, but it’s a nice thought to aspire to right now.

It will probably be an upset now if Villanova were to win the Big East Tournament; the Gillespie injury is, as Jay Wright put it delicately last night after game, "serious," and 'Nova looked lost without him on the court. UConn has the look of a champion right now with a healthy Bouknight.

/photo/1This tweet breaks down all the scenarios and their likelihood. I don't even know how to read this. Plus all of the colors make my eyes hurt. If we get passed UConn, will Seton Hall do us a favor by beating the Johnnies and can Marquette defeat Xavier at home, is all I want to know? If so, we can possibly jump up two spots to the fifth spot in one weekend.

MRI on Collin Gillespie disclosed torn MCL in his left knee. His season is over.
Brutal loss for Villanova. Hard to see them (a) winning the Big East tournament, and (b) getting past the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament.

Actually very good news for him if that’s all he has going on.

Creighton just suspended Greg McDermott tonight from all team activities, including the season finale against Butler, after he made racially insensitive comments to his team after the lost at Xavier. Creighton's athletic director, Bruce Rasmussen, released a statement that indicates that additional sanctions are under consideration. Reportedly, McDermott has offered his resignation to the university.
It is shaping up as a very chaotic tournament this year...which would be a fitting coda to a chaotic regular season.

Who is hurt for the Johnnies? Posh? Yes. he did not play in its win against Providence. He was listed as day-to-day.

Just shaping up more and more for a Uconn win. Let’s hope if not us, someone else in the conference can step up. That fan base will really go on an ego trip if they waltz through MSG in their first season back.
