Finally, worst announcing job in some time. How about using a professional play by play announcer next time so we know who is in the game and who is making the play? Steve Buckhantz did the best he could but Monica McNutt was not prepared for the game. Too many stories and too little analysis. And here's a long running problem with local announcers--they lapse into DMV mode and start telling stories that almost no one outside of the region would have any idea what it refers to. Not everyone tuning into this game known or cares about Mary Fenlon (who left the program 21 years ago), or Prince George's County basketball, or that Jamorko Pickett went to Eastern HS. It's a crutch for not covering the game with a little more discipline. I don’t think we’re going to see a lot of the first team announcers too often this season.

If you are disappointed with what you saw, just be thankful you got to watch our team play. Cherish every single struggle that we get.

Whom ever recommended the following line-up, you might be on to something
Carey Blair Clark Pickett Wahab
Maybe the Carey, Blair, Clark combo can collectively handle the ball enough to get by.

Grateful that our best shooter went for 23! Grateful that our big man went for a double-double! Grateful that our 4 year starter snatched 8 rebounds despite an off game! Grateful that a grad-transfer went for double figures! Grateful that our starting point guard went for 6 assts! Grateful that one of our freshman grabbed 10 boards and had no turnovers!
Grateful for our Hoyas!!

I thought our individual defense was simply atrocious. We couldn't keep anybody in front of us.
That said, I actually thought the team defense was improved over last year. A lot of the shots we gave up, while open, were of the long two-point variety. We did better against pick and roll and we were able to contest most shots going to the basket. It wasn't good, but it seemed better and more connected.

I know not the right thread, but after seeing us only put up 70, noticing Texas Tech go for 57 in the first half with Mac getting 12 himself, is frustrating to say the least.
What could have been for the 20-21’ Hoyas. Let’s hope the reset is worth it...

Now I know why we are picked last in the league.
However, it's still fun watching the Hoyas.

A few good things and lots of bad things to take from today's game. This looks like a last place Big East team. I know I'm repeating much of what has already been said.
The good: Kobe Clark. I don't know if he any sort of offensive game, but his hustle and grit were impressive. Donald Carey. He cooled off after a hot start, but I think he's going to have to play a lot of minutes. The OK: Blair. He's still a gunner and he wasn't great, but what else do we have? Wahab. He was at least ok, but the level of competition may have made him look better than he was. Anyone who thinks he's going to make All Big East this year or consider going pro after this year is delusional. The bad: Where the heck was Sibley? We don't seem to have an answer yet. I hope he had a minor injury, because if he's not good enough to play with this group, that's an awful sign. Pickett was abominable. Horrible shooting, turnovers, just really bad. Timmy I was totally out of control at both ends of the floor, a foul machine. Harris the transfer couldn't throw a pea in the ocean and couldn't stay in front of anyone. The shooting in general was terrible, both from the field and the line. Yes, we made a few threes, and the best I can say is that at least we shot better than 15%. Way too many turnovers, lots of them bad. Hopefully that was just first game jitters.

Like others, really hoping Sibley’s DNP was disciplinary. Pat has done this before with multiple guys. As someone above said, if you can’t get minutes on this roster...

Timmy looked rough and rusty, but it took him about 2 or 3 really rough games in mid-season to start learning some of the basics. He hasn't been playing all that long. Having a long break with no way to keep what he has learned fresh he regressed. Given how quickly he learned and adjusted last year I'm not too concerned.
He looks like he has been in the gym working out and his shoulders filled out more, which is scary. He has an insane wingspan and good athletically.

Compared to past first outings, this one was not too bad. There is a lot of potential on this team. I am going to chalk up tonight's performance to first game jitters, rust, first real game situation, and a lot of new players having to learn how to play with each other.
My concern is Sibley. Would have loved to have seen him play.

Mac looked like a different player under his new coach and system. 0 turnovers, 3 assists, 6-9 shooting, 3 steals, not getting beat on defense and the leading scorer when taken out with 11 min to go. All that after first game recovering from surgery.

Overall, as many have said, just nice to see the Hoyas play again!
That said, it looked like this team hadn't played much together and has been dealing with the situation facing the world and all the limitations that puts on them. I was hopeful because I always have blue-and-gray tinted glasses on, but I just don't think this year will be a good measuring stick for anything this year. I know I personally would not want my performance or potential as a human being evaluated based on this year. It's just a really tough year.
I hope the players continue to develop, show progress throughout the season, develop a camaraderie as a team, and help set a solid steady base for the program going forward. Would be great if one or two guys show they can be stars of the future. Otherwise, I'm tempering my expectations for the year.

I’m not entirely sure what most of you expected. We were picked last in the big East by a country mile for a reason and the vast majority of this team has literally never played a basketball game together before today. Our veterans “leaders” are incredibly flawed players who are what they are at this point. If you bought into all of Jamorkos preseason yammering on twitter, then I have a bridge to sell you. He was brutal today and this doesn’t bode well for all his “who tf is better than you” chatter.
But I’m not going to bash the squad or pretend this game has any predictive value whatsoever. Even the guys that have college hoops experience haven’t played a competitive game in almost 9 months. Which is why evaluating individual performances based on today’s action is fairly ridiculous.
We got to watch Hoyas basketball today. That’s a win in my book. The way things are shaping up, who knows how many chances we’ll have to do that this season.
