God speed coach Thompson. Thank you for making Georgetown a better place. That was a great tribute you paid to Coach Thompson and that is exactly what he did, make Georgetown a better place in so many ways. As a kid from Southeast Washington DC in the late 70's early 80's, I grew up loving the Georgetown community and it was because of Coach Thompson and his team's impact on the psyche of the kids, like myself, of the inner cities. As I started to mature as a young man and grow into middle age, I spent many many years working at Georgetown and working in the Georgetown community. While I was in college at GW, I even took classes at Georgetown. Today I own a business, with my wife, and I am still visiting Georgetown at least 10 times a year as we have a few clients on the campus and the surroundings. Georgetown is already a beautiful place but because of the team's history, the nostalgia that Coach Thompson and his boys (the teams and players) left behind, Georgetown is even more beautiful University. Coach Thompson helped make it that way. I know we all have to go but I wish that we could have Coach Thompson just a little bit longer. I want to see him on the sidelines cheering on his beloved Georgetown Hoyas just one more time!

Got to know the man just a little, and get a couple hoops tips from him as a youngster, in the summer of 1970 or 71. I knew he was one of a kind back then. RIP Coach Thompson.

Rest in peace, Coach Thompson. We can't overstate the positive impact he had on so many people, for so many reasons.
He brought us together in life, and now - in this year of global pandemic, a lost season, and no games to attend - he brings us together with his passing.

Maybe it's the geezer in me but I think to really appreciate JT2 you have to have been a basketball-loving student at GU before JT2 arrived. Our program was a joke. Moreover, until Bernie White was recruited in 1967(?)it was, like the campus, an all white program. JT2 not only changed that on the court but he also played a big part in changing the whole campus culture. I can't think of another college basketball coach who could have done that. He was a giant.
