Sorry to wake-up to this heart breaking news. John Thompson is the reason I am a Hoya fan. Rest in peace, big man. Big in stature, even bigger in heart!

Hello world Im still N shock ...
I am basically at a lost of words. I'm a D.C. native and a military vet which most people view as a tough guy. Meaning S.E and the military experience.
Well certain things can break u down. The passing of John Thompson Jr just did that to me ...he stood for just as much off the court as on it. A real life black super hero..a ICON. That's how I've always viewed from a teen to an adult. He injected personal pride in me as a black youth.
From telling Rayful Edmonds to leave Zo alone to taking on Allen Iverson when every school in the country BLACK BALLED him. To also having a 97 % grad rate. A solid coach and a even better human being. Another D.C. icon gone first Chuck Brown years back and now Big John. I'm hurting...
Rest in peace coach . U are and will be truly missed.

He personified respect. He was a man of his word. When I was at GU the endowment was down to next to nothing. This was right after his first NCAA appearance. The basketball program saved the university from financial ruin. Look where it is today. What more can you say? Is that accurate about the endowment and the basketball program impact? I'd never heard that.

We lost a great man. The country mourns with us. Sending love to the Thompson family and all those he touched.
