Is Sibley Aminu's cousin or something? If not, why the hell are we talking about him on this thread?

Aminu wants somewhere he will play and can develop to be a NBA player obviously because he would probs play as a SG in the NBA event though he would probably play SF for us (and most of our competitors) and he should look at how well Blair has developed these past years. And Blair was not even that good of a recruit in terms of rating so I would hope he can be an example of growth for plays under Ewing. He currently is averaging over 20 pts a game and would be more if West virignia didn't go out of their way to shut him out.

Nothing, this is the Mohammed thread and they went off on a tangent about scholarships (and Sibley maybe leaving this semester) that I do not even think would be legal because scholarships are based on whole years not semesters (I do not know this for sure). I was just pointing something out about what could appeal to Mohammed in relation to the current team.

If Aminu's HS season goes off as planned, Harmon is on record as saying that their first preference would be to play out his senior season. It's trending that way, despite the rise in COVID cases. That would make any talk of people transferring mid-season or figuring out another creative way to make room for him all moot.
It's up to us to put together a fast start in conference play to put ourselves in the best possible position/light for that mid-December decision. That starts tomorrow.

Agreed, hopefully they can play it out so we have a much better chance that way. However, we are still lacking an open spot for him next year and I am sure it will work itself out. Considering we are are also looking at other 2021's still I wonder who might leave to make it happen, Mohammed or not. Personally I think Wilson would be the most likely candidate to leave considering that: he is not getting time now with a lackluster team, Mutombo is coming next year, and Wahab is not good enough to leave yet (I personally think he will leave after next year to try pro) so that could bury him behind as many as 3 other centers as a junior and maybe even as a senior if Wahab stays all 4.

In a perfect world the program could find a way to keep all the big guys (Q, Tim and Malcolm), because I think they all have some real potential, but that is probably unlikely with Ryan Mutombo coming in next year. Ryan is not a finished product at this point either, but I think his offensive game is probably more advanced that than the other guys we have now. I have no idea what will, or could, happen, but I am sure the staff has an inkling about what next years roster is looking like and will do the right thing for all the players involved.

I don't want to turn this into the Mutombo thread but I think Ryan's challenge will be strength and lower body strength in particular. He will play but he is unlikely to send others into the portal. I also think it is a mistake to speculate on someone like Malcolm transferring. It is difficult to speculate about any player's life plans and the possibility of transferring a season down the road (I think it is generally something to be avoided) but I will say that there is some evidence that Malcolm has a good understanding of the big picture.

Speculating by name like this is frowned upon here, and doesn't really add much value given that we're still so early in the season and have no idea what the division of playing time might look like a few months from now. That said, I think it's safe to just say that SOMEONE will depart early. The reality is that we brought in 5 kids last year, most of whom did not have any other high major offers and some of whom play the same positions. The year before that we brought in 3 kids who all played the same position, and next year we're bringing in at least 4 more kids, several of whom have positional overlap with last year's class. Eventually some of these guys will fall out of the rotation, and with another new crop coming next year, they may decide to try their hand elsewhere. Given that transfers are becoming more prevalent every year in college basketball, and the barrier to doing so (mandatory redshirt year) is quickly eroding, it seems fairly certain that at least one player will move on after this year. It's safe to assume that there will be an open scholarship for Aminu, though it's not really useful to speculate on where it'll come from at this point IMHO.

Here’s to hoping that they only watched the first half of the game vs Nova today

Feels like the only way out is if we land this kid. Don’t see the tourney in the cards next year without him- losing quite a bit in our two main seniors (assuming they leave, and I don’t see why they wouldn’t).

Well, if he saw Q and Tim in the first half ...along with Harris...he was probably impressed. Add to that Kobe, who was out, a splash of Sibley and a top 20-ish class that we already have signed for next year....we’ve got something. Most importantly, the style of play was something that had to be appealing to him. The ball was moving in the first half especially.

But I think this team will likely be low on veteran talent, we may need a transfer if there ends up being a spot or two.

He would thrive in this offense and would pair very well with Dante Harris. Also, think of the assists that would be available with Berger spotted up around the perimeter. GO AMINU GO HOYAS!

Agree with this. Technically Malcolm is a freshman due to the RS option. You can't play 13 kids anyways so there should always be some people in development. Wilson this year will play if the prior 2 have foul trouble. Having four 7 footers on your roster next year isn't the worst thing in the world either as long as everybody understands their role. I think Malcolm will start to see minutes his junior year and can be quite good at that point as a rim running shot blocker. He just needs to eat a lot between now and then.
