The most improved player on last year's team. Hope he chooses to come back. Totally agree. Collin showed the most improvement from the previous year of any one on last years team. He is a fundamentally sound player who works hard. With that being said, I think if he is a starter on a Big East team, that at some point he gets exposed for his lack of elite athleticism. He is a really good complimentary role player on a good team. Maybe the staff communicated that to him and he decided he wants more opportunity at another school if he can find it. I hope he finds the right place for him to be successful, and if he does come back to Georgetown that the staff can slot him into that complimentary role.

Holloway was a player who actually developed his game under Ewing. Like Kobe Clark, he is the type of player that a good program needs. 3-4 year players that won't have NBA aspirations but can be damn good college players, role players, glue guys. Once again, indirectly, Ewing is making it clear that 21-22 was all on the players.

Once again, indirectly, Ewing is making it clear that 21-22 was all on the players. If you check his high school videos, Collin played exactly like he played this year. Pat’s offensive scheme, the “my turn” pro offense, allowed Collin to play like he did in high school where he was carrying his team. There was no extra development to his game. He didn’t play his freshman year (4.4 mpg) because the alternatives in his position were the best players on the team and Pat has shown that he runs his best players to the ground even in blowout double-digit losses.

Most of the other departures this offseason didn't bother me much, this one is disappointing though. I liked the steadiness of his game and he seemed like he could be a (now rare) example of a guy who stays 4 years at the same school and gets a little better every year.
The fact that the option of returning to Georgetown is still on the table gives me a glimmer of hope. Honestly, in the current state of college basketball, why doesn't everyone enter the transfer portal every year? I don't like the direction it has taken with NIL and no redshirt year for transfers, but it's where we're at. Other than out of some abstract sense of loyalty (which seems increasingly antiquated), why stay in the same place you were without even looking around? Even if you're generally happy with where you are, there are hundreds of other college programs out there, are you really SURE that not a single one might be able to make you a better overall offer? If the team you're leaving really values you, they'll try to recruit you back, and if they don't and they go after others instead, you don't really want to be there anyway. There's no real "cost" to entering the portal, only upside.
In Holloway's case, he's worked hard for 2 years but is now sitting back and watching as we recruit Akok, Ormier and others who might push him to the bench (note: I'm not faulting us for this). Why sit back and let your destiny ride on whether or not those players choose Georgetown? I can understand the rationale of throwing your name in the portal and seeing what happens. If the staff still wants you and the situation looks good for next year, you can come back. If not, then it's better to move on.
Hopefully we are staying in contact with him. Whether Akok or others pop for us or not, Holloway would be a good guy to have in the fold.

Sir, 0-20 talent typically does not respond to coaching have trouble closing out games. You put all the blame for last season on the players and absolve Patrick of any role in the debacle. Then it becomes easy to trash any player who chooses to leave. This is not logical or true. Colin has his limitations but he’s become a good player and is a loss for the program. Not true Sir. I have said it before. Pat is the leader. He is responsible. He brought these guys in. This is his doing and I totally hold him responsible for doing so. PAT IS THE BLAME! NO DOUBT. I do not blame the players at all. They are who they are. Their talent and skillset is what it is. They played up to their level of skillset. And I like Collin and those other guys that hit the transfer portal. The difference between you and I is that I can take the blinders off and call it for what it is from all perspectives. I am just happy to see that he is realizing his mistake and taking the steps necessary to address it. Now whether or not he can pull it off is a wait and see and I am willing to wait and see.

You can invest in a player only to see them transfer, see Wahab. Need to win now and recruit accordingly.

One thing this whole transfer situation shows is that the value of a GU degree is nowhere in the equation anymore - that applies to every elite school unless the kid has-realistic expectations about not playing pro ballet

Lacks length, hight athleticism. He waits to see if Aminu comes back. If Aminu is gone maybe he comes back. If Aminu comes back he goes somewhere else where he can get Pt

The flip end of it is he isn't a pro ball player. That degree should mean alot more here then at a school that he may end up at. If you look at recent transfers, UTEP, San Diego, Pacific, SE Missouri, those schools are not of the caliber of Gtown and none of those guys are pro ball players. This is where I think the kids are a little shortsighted. Now if a kid got a degree in three years and then transferred to another prestigious school to pick up a second degree and play another year, that is gaming the system and very smart. I hope Malcolm pulls it off.

Tyrell Ward > Collin Holloway Agreed. This is where there's a good start to the roster overhaul (if you're being optimistic). Ward is a huge upgrade over Holloway. And I'd take Murray over Mohammed (because he's a better shooter). Losing Carey is rough, but we're not off to a bad start, but we need to get moving over the next couple weeks. That wasn't a slight to Aminu in any way, because I'd love to have him come back, but if we're looking at it as Murray replacing Aminu, we definitely didn't downgrade there. But we got to start filling the roster gaps. Whenever G'Town generates positive momentum, it gets followed by a lull! WHY!?

I'll add that Bristol and Riley are nice pieces as well, who I think will play a significant role. SG/SF spot is looking good. But an experienced guard and front court help is in dire need. If we don't get it, we're ******.

I can't let you have the last word on this one. Yes. I say they played up to their skillset which was not at the caliber of a Big East baller because they never had it. It wasn't there to be coached up from the beginning. If it were, they would have had more stars coming out of high school. They would have had coaches jumping all over them if those coaches thought they could be coached up to baller status. That did not happen when they were in high school and has not happened since they hit the transfer portal.

There are countless examples of lower ranked high school players who outperform their ranking in college and become hot commodities in the transfer portal. Some go on to the NBA. Except, as you acknowledge, at Georgetown. Why is that (rhetorical question)?
