Even the idiots at ESPN can’t miss on Alcindor. Hate to break it to you but alas he lost to Shaq. And there it is. They have dug below their own bottom.

This could have been solid content if the ESPN on-air personalities voted and defended their POV. Leaving the vote up to viewers clearly is an act of futility.

Yea the fan vote and the coed bracket killed what could have been a great concept. Forgetting the women, a final 8 with Iverson, Shaq, Wade, and Bird, and not Alcindor, Russell, Thompson, Ewing (potentially), or even Maravich is a complete joke.

I’ll keep beating a dead horse by standing in my corner and saying Chamberlain over and over again.
And leaving Artis Gilmore out is a travesty, IMO. I can’t get over Hansbrough being in this list. That’s a joke- we’re all being punked, I swear.

The entire thing was poorly conceived, chock full of recency and NBA biases, not to mention the abject absurdity of including the ladies.
Other than that, it was top-shelf ESPN...

Alcindor/Walton/Ewing and then maybe Russell/Wilt---maybe David thompson too
Maravich + Bird + magic kind of on same level
hard to put laettner on the same level as those guys

Iverson kind of a more modern david thompson, more talent but less production obviously than Thompson--both were electrifying

Albeit likely outrageous, let me throw something out there since this is a Georgetown board. Does Reggie Williams belong in the top 64 here? 2 time NCAA finalist, NCAA finals MVP, led his team to a 1 seed as a senior when there is no way they would get there without him.

Reggie was definitely a victim of lack of NBA success. I think hard to separate him from the team success, and also think he could be top 64 most impactful freshman. Maybe rate him along with somebody like a Len Bias, maybe slightly below Larry Johnson.

The big "E" Elvin Hayes also a huge omission--though I never saw them play in college I suspect Oscar robertson/Jerry Lucas/Havlicek--at least one of them belonged on the list. Walton in college also hugely underrated in this list + board discussion--he was great shooter, defender, rebounder, passer had size and athleticism in college. Final 8(likely) is kind of a joke. Hansborough btw should not ice n the top 200. Another person who I never saw play in college and really only have the slimmest of memory as a pro who should probably be top 16 or 8 at least is Jerry West. I'm kind of going by my father there(who knew a lot as he started on ST Johns back in the day)

Ewing lost to Durant and Laettner lost to Zion. What a joke.

Btw i doubt hansborough could even have started on many of the great college teams--i think even if i did an all time acc list he'd probably be third team at best

Durant not close to Ewing in college, maybe durant was better version ofReggieWilliams in college(at best)--complete pro bias

Any Final 4 without at least 2 from Laettner, Alcindor, Ewing, David Thompson, And maybe Maravich is laughable.
Maravich had no success in team wise so that keeps him away maybe.
Also why no love for Chris Mullin?
Honestly Alcindor should be the super duper overall #1 seed.
Put some respect on his name.

They should redo the GOAT of college basketball with each round having one of the on air “talents” have legit debate on merits of each player. . The fan vote simply didn’t work. It’s not like we don’t have time to do it again. It would be interesting content if done correctly.

If you want some real entertainment, have the current lineup of ESPN bobble heads try to defend the selections of the idiots who actually voted in this thing.
