Allen Iverson at a Georgetown is wildly overrated. Amazing talent & athleticism but what did his team’s win? I recall him shrinking in the biggest of spots. Regional finals vs. Umass? Check. Big East Championship vs. UConn? Check. Big East semis in 1996 vis. Villanova? Yep. Victor Page was the man in that game. I like a Iverson but there is no way he should be in any discussion of greatest college anything.
Patrick on the other hand should be in the final four. The reason college basketball took off into the stratosphere in the 1980’s was because of the Georgetown program led by Patrick. I will argue that Ewing should be the champ of this debacle. Alcindor and Walton are more deserving on titles but that was a far off galaxy of a forgotten time. TV, Musburger, Selection Show, Georgetown starter jackets, rap music, “Hoya Paranoia” and Patrick was the engine.
Laettner will probably win and he is deserving but does anyone really care if it wasn’t for the Hoyas being feared, hated , loved and respected? Laettner was a dbag on the best team but I am not sure anyone would really care without Big John, Patrick and the Hoyas.

The biggest two jokes are Tyler Hanbsrough being that high (if he should be on there at all) and Wilt Chamberlain being that low. Also, some players like Artis Gilmore, World B Free, and Earl the Pearl Monroe should be on there.
People don’t realize what a fantastic athlete Wilt was. He’d have dominated at any point. He was a 3-time high jump champion in college. He played professional volleyball. The guy was a monster athlete.

And Wilt is widely credited for helping the Beach Volleyball rise to popularity. Misty May’s ass didn’t hurt either.

I really can’t buy an argument for anyone but those four.

But I can’t fault someone for including him instead of Ewing.

I really can’t buy an argument for anyone but those four. Won't get it, but the #1 college player of the last 75 years: Pete Maravich.

Pistol Pete is wayyyyyyyyyyy too low. Chris Jackson should be higher than a 15. Kemba is seeded too low, also. Those are my main three gripes.

Much as I love Ewing, the greatest has to be Alcindor. Yes, it's the titles, but heck, his freshman team beat the UCLA's varsity. And don't forget the dunk was BANNED in an effort to neutralize Lew. So what did Alcindor do? Invent the unstoppable sky hook! No other modern college player compares to what he did!!!

Laettner has some of the most iconic moments in college basketball history, with a resume only rivaled by a few.

Pistol might have been the most impressive statistical career and/or greatest show in CBB history, but not the greatest player. Seeded far too low in this still. Should certainly be among the top 10 or 15 names. That being said, his two knocks are: his father let him do whatever he wanted and he NEVER played an NCAA tournament game.

Iverson had at least 25 points and had 7 or 8 steals; he was a maniac on defense that game. The last five minutes, we completely slowed the game down and it killed us. I don’t even think we scored. Ray Allen actually had a horrible game, and, if it weren’t for an incredibly lucky shot, it would had been an abysmal performance by him. I’ll give you UMass. That was a disaster.

Yet another missing name, because if it didn't happen on the Worldwide Leader, it didn't happen: Bob Pettit (LSU).
Averaged 27 points and 14 rebounds a game in three seasons, and 31 and 17 as a senior. Narrowly missed scoring 2000 points and 1000 rebounds in his career, but played only 72 games. Two time consensus All-American.
As a pro, he played 11 seasons, made the NBA All-Star Game 11 times. He averaged 26 ppg and 16 rpg. One of only two players (Kobe Bryant the other) to win All-Star MVP four different times.

For those that are stuck at home and with some time to kill, check out (if you haven't already), "Basketball: A Love Story." This discussion would dovetail nicely into several parts of it.

Maybe my subconscious is trying to protect me from painful memories. I was thinking of the game at Georgetown when Iverson played phenomenally. But I’m sure we didn’t score for the last five minutes of the BEC game. That was the most excruciating basketball I think I’ve ever witnessed.
