Sorry for a quick diversion. I consider myself a pro-life democrat. It is very frustrating that there is no party that is pro-life across the board however have always been frustrated the overall the options are Prolife only up until birth (republicans) and Only Prolife after birth( Democrat). At times it feels less justifiable to support a party that is against capital punishment but pro-abortion, but that simplification ignores all the other anti-life policies supported by the republican party. Republican polices that harm the poor cost more lives a year than the abortion policy supported by democrats. I also think that there is an over emphasis on the legality of abortion by the pro-life movement and we should instead focus on reducing the need for the procedure by investing in our social safety net. We need to make keep kids and giving kids up for adoption a viable option for everyone. While I believe life begins at conception, I understand I cannot necessarily force my belief on everyone. I do think that abortion should be illegal after viability, which with our improving medical field gets earlier and earlier (obviously there's a limit there). I think there are more people that share or, at the least, are close to this mindset than aren't. Personally, I'm for abortion in part because of the other failings of our system that you mentioned. Coupled with sexual violence that results in pregnancy. Personally, I've only ever had the conversation with a partner once in my life (in high school so take that for what it's worth) when we had a "scare." I was adamantly against abortion as an option for us (she was not) but I was also more idealistic then. This was after I had already been admitted to Georgetown and, in fairness to myself, I had an appreciation for what my stance meant for me personally. Having said that, I also realize that I had a support system if, in fact, my girlfriend were pregnant. She ended up just being quite late. Many, if not most, are not similarly lucky/gifted and so I don't feel qualified or knowledgeable enough to comment or generalize my particular situation to society as a whole. I just feel that, especially when it pertains to the mother's health or the pregnancy is a result of violence/molestation/rape, it has to be legal. I very much realize and abhor that it won't be used in only those situations and that it's an exceedingly slippery slope but, because I feel so strongly about those situations, I feel it needs to be legal. With regard to adoption, I've known several people in my life that have gone that route. And, from the standpoint of couples looking to adopt, my tangential experience is that it's a grueling and arduous process that, as often as not, is better handled privately. I realize that people should and need to be vetted. But the "matching" of couples with children seems like it should be far easier, more efficient and promoted more actively. In many ways, this is a really difficult discussion to have because it brings in so many elements of one's identity. Ethics, faith, background, experiences, and, somehow, political leanings. It seems to me that it's far past time that we have more conversations about such things as opposed to using them as grenades in attacking one another. My $.02. Thank you to you, HSB, for your honest and thought provoking post. I very much appreciate it.

The gap reflects the disconnect between Trump’s campaign promises, as well as the optimistic estimates from some drug companies, and scientific and manufacturing realities. July 2020: WALLACE: But you've been in office three and a half years, you don't have a plan. TRUMP: Excuse me. You heard me yesterday. We're signing a health care plan within two weeks, a full and complete health care plan that the Supreme Court decision on DACA gave me the right to do. So we're going to solve -- we're going to sign an immigration plan, a health care plan, and various other plans. And nobody will have done what I'm doing in the next four weeks...And you're going to find it to be a very exciting two weeks." www.foxnews.com/politics/transcript-fox-news-sunday-interview-with-president-trump

If it's between Rudy and someone else, please give the other person the available ventilator.

It's a strange feeling to be both surprised and comforted by people that are qualified being appointed to positions of importance to all of us. Congratulations to your friend and colleague. Best of luck to her in her new position.

This is why this Trump is one of the worst President's in US history. Here you have the director of the CDC saying there's documented evidence that masks reduce the transmission by over 70%. He claims his entire staff and and "top advisers" to the White House are saying "Wear your masks," and you have the President not setting an example, and saying masks are optional. Maga doesn't care what Secretary Azar says. They care what Trump says. How many lives did this cost? It's not even a stretch to say 100k.
A President's highest responsibility is to keep Americans safe and he's failed miserably. The economy is screwed and he's running around trying to steal an election, stuffing his pockets with small donor cash, and golfing on the weekends...

How many different ways can one administration fail the people it’s supposed to represent? EasyEd will still give him an A++ for the job he did. It’s be what, 3 weeks now, and he’s still clearly undecided about the Dominion/Hugo Chavez conspiracy.

How many different ways can one administration fail the people it’s supposed to represent? America Fi...! He’s signing an executive order to ensure that America gets the vaccine before helping other countries. He’s bungled this so badly; I can’t imagine that executive order will have any teeth. It’s more likely a cover for this colossal F-up that in June. How did anyone vote for more of this? He’s so incompetent. For that, we are actually lucky because he’s coup might have otherwise worked.

He didn't want to order the "Trump" vaccine? I'm so confused... Maybe he thought they were Trump steaks? Oh, right. He's bafflingly incompetent and stupid.

One of the worst? Not to mention that the lies, like the hits, just keep on coming.
