"I'm dreaming of a covid Christmas . . . " The White House began the annual holiday party season on Monday afternoon, officials said, kicking off a spate of indoor holiday parties that commemorate various religious traditions over the season. While many public health professionals have asked Americans not to congregate in large group settings and avoid travel over the holidays because of the coronavirus pandemic that has killed more than 266,000 Americans and infected 13 million more, the White House is expected to throw more than a dozen indoor parties, including a large congressional ball on Dec. 10, officials say. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/white-house-planning-a-packed-season-of-holiday-parties/2020/11/30/9ae209f2-3389-11eb-a997-1f4c53d2a747_story.html

The U.S. recorded 3,157 deaths on Wednesday, according to the tally kept by Johns Hopkins University. That’s more than the number of people killed on 9/11, and it shattered the old mark of 2,603, set on April 15, when the New York metropolitan area was the epicenter of the U.S. outbreak.
The number of people in the hospital likewise set an all-time high Wednesday, according to the COVID Tracking Project. It has more than doubled over the past month.
Also, the number of newly confirmed infections climbed just over 200,000 Wednesday for the second time in less than a week, by Johns Hopkins’ count

Sadly I doubt this will change people's minds. I've seen people disagree with the Pope and call him not catholic if they disagree with his views. Only the facebook experts can say whether these vaccines are moral or not, doesn't matter how many Catholic experts or Bishops say otherwise.

Wait a minute, couldn't you also say "50% of Catholics voted for Biden. Biden Catholics who ignore Pope Francis's definition of pro-life?"The story goes into a little more depth on this, noting that Trump carried 57 percent of the white Catholic vote but 32 percent of the Hispanic Catholic vote. (The author is apparently unaware of the three million black Catholics that vote or chose not to cover it.) The AP public data file with the details of this story is available at 60MB, and there may be some other nuggets out there including that Protestant voters differ on the candidates despite that the media lumps all Protestants in as "evangelicals." One thing we didn't see in 2020: the religion card. No one of any serious national standing raised the specter of a "Catholic president" among Protestant voters the way is was alluded to in 1960.

Sure, you could put it that way but in context, it's the 50% of Trump Catholics that matter with respect to HSB's point. As an aside, I don't see the "pro-life" HoyaTalkers expressing any opposition to corrupt Barr's push to carry out as many federal executions as it can before January 20, 2021. Why is that??

Only the facebook experts can say whether these vaccines are moral or not, doesn't matter how many Catholic experts or Bishops say otherwise. Read the Bishops' memo - it clearly states the following (and other things of course): Just for interests sake, here is a link to the source of their "data" about the various vaccines: s27589.pcdn.co/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/COVID-19-Vaccine-Candidates-and-Abortion-Derived-Cell-Lines.pdfAll are free to jump to their own conclusions, but all I can say is that someone I know well of Easy Ed's vintage and moral world view found this convincing from his church. Is the world (and this country) full of knuckleheads who believe everything on the internet? Of course.

Opinion here, but I think it's a byproduct that widespread opposition to capital punishment is a relatively recent movement in the church (75 years) and is reflective of the times we live in rather than a scriptural prohibition. The killing of innocents (abortion and infanticide) has never had a defense; by contrast St. Thomas Aquinas argued that administration of civil punishment is not a sin and that was part of Catholic social thought for 700 years. FWIW, Mr. Barr is Catholic and he gets his share of critics from the Catholic left. It's a fair wager that Barr will be fired within the next six weeks because that's how all appointees without the name Trump eventually fare. It will as much or more interesting going forward to learn what Barr chose not to do for Trump as that which he did.

Sorry for a quick diversion. I consider myself a pro-life democrat. It is very frustrating that there is no party that is pro-life across the board however have always been frustrated the overall the options are Prolife only up until birth (republicans) and Only Prolife after birth( Democrat). At times it feels less justifiable to support a party that is against capital punishment but pro-abortion, but that simplification ignores all the other anti-life policies supported by the republican party. Republican polices that harm the poor cost more lives a year than the abortion policy supported by democrats.
I also think that there is an over emphasis on the legality of abortion by the pro-life movement and we should instead focus on reducing the need for the procedure by investing in our social safety net. We need to make keep kids and giving kids up for adoption a viable option for everyone. While I believe life begins at conception, I understand I cannot necessarily force my belief on everyone. I do think that abortion should be illegal after viability, which with our improving medical field gets earlier and earlier (obviously there's a limit there).

Instead of the delivery of 300 million or so doses of vaccine immediately after emergency-use approval and before the end of 2020 as the Trump administration had originally promised, current plans call for availability of around a tenth of that, or 35 to 40 million doses. The gap reflects the disconnect between Trump’s campaign promises, as well as the optimistic estimates from some drug companies, and scientific and manufacturing realities. www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/12/05/operation-warp-speed-coronavirus-vaccine-shortfall/
