Marquette will have a pretty good team next year. Carton getting that waiver was pretty obvious IMO. He deserves it. He did have to go through a lot in his freshman season and needed a change of scenery, which is the exact reason these waivers are in place. He's a very good player and will really help that team. Pretty good information here. Those are pretty impressive splits.

Trey Patterson out of NJ making decision today. Top 40 guy. Final three Florida, Nova, Indiana. Nova seems to be the favorite here, but he recently followed IU basketball and Archie Miller on twitter. Hopefully he chooses IU, although I hate all three of those schools Nova

It’ll be great when you can add players going into the conference tournament and NCAAs to complete the roster. Student athletes be damned.

I still don't see how COVID-19 is a legitimate reason for a waiver. The last season was basically over, and at this point, New York's COVID-19 stats are among the best in the country, as far as declines are concerned. I just don't see how you can give anybody a waiver on that basis and not give a similar waiver to almost every transfer.

Yep. Pretty hard to underachieve when you're picked last.
Dum spiro spero.

Every year, there's some guy that it seems like we've been playing against him for darn near a decade. For me, this year's "He's STILL there?" guy is Theo John.

No but unfortunately accurate. No where to go but up I guess is the glass half full outlook. It's really sad to see how far this program has fallen. Were we ever projected to finish last in recent years? What is particularly disturbing is that this is not projected to be a strong year for the BE. Ewing's work is cut out for him and in some ways maybe his job will be easier this year than last when expectations were much higher.

I miss sports so badly I'd gladly watch a last place Hoya team. In fact, best case we play next year without fans which should hurt us less than anyone but DePaul. Worst case we have a second wave virus next winter and the whole season is cancelled. Which come to think of it may be a best case scenario.

I guess if you’re picked to finish last, you can’t do worse.

Being predicted to finish last in conference is never a good thing. That being said, other than Nova and Creighton, I don't see where any of the other teams in the Big East are really that strong this upcoming year. The Hoyas have a lot of questions to answer and a lot of unproven guys trying to provide those answers, so they could absolutely finish very low in the conference, but I also think if the team can gel and play as a unit, that they can compete and have a chance to win every night. Other than those top 2 teams I don't see anyone else that I think is so talented that Georgetown can't compete with them on a given night. The team will be young and sometime inconsistent, but if they can stay healthy and show steady improvement all year, I think they could finish in the middle of the pack in the Big East, be in the conversation to make the tournament and give everyone a team they can cheer for all year.

There’s part of me that sees this and is cautiously optimistic. Depth and team chemistry can/should go a long way. That being said even when you exclude the mid-year transfers, we lost the 4 best players from last year’s team that went 5-13 in the conference. Tough to expect a better record with that roster turnover and no high impact transfers or freshmen coming in. If/when there is a season, the only way I see this team beating expectations is a marked improvement on the defensive side of the ball. We have been a Top 40-50 offensive team in recent years but I expect that to regress quite a bit. So the only way to make up for that is to take a team that has been outside the Top 100-125 defensively, and make a sizable leap here.

If the season doesn't happen, I could see us benefiting more then most. We presumably would only lose the grad transfers and you would have another young class coming in '21. Most of the top teams will see a shuffling of the deck with players leaving early and some of those bigger name recruits may not want to go to a program that had a top '20 class as those kids may still be there in '21. We would have a path for kids to early time and a year to learn. I'm grasping at straws here but what the hell.
