Big East need to be aware that Val Ackerman who may just be the "gem" commissioner of college basketball may have to fight off overtures from the ACC of trying to get Val.

http://instagr.am/p/CCGpea2p8yQ We often get a bad wrap for social media content (which is fair), but this is pretty cool. The other BE schools that I've seen have only posted a bland 'welcome back' This is pretty cool, but I agree there is a reason our social media content gets a bad wrap. Our whole social media approach is lackluster. It is not hard…you want content and engagement. Our coach provides significant content – I just saw he was on Sirius radio (which I didn’t see promoted beforehand) and he has done media all spring/summer. And the communication folks should be able to generate content when needed. I’m not an expert in this area but we aren’t getting the basics right. Start by keeping a social media calendar that goes out a few months and create some policies around posting. Any time coach will be interviewed, it is policy that some 20-something intern gets notified and adds it to the calendar. Whether the interview is set up by coach’s people or the athletic department, it gets added to the calendar with as much notice as practicable. Prior to the interview, a tweet goes out (ideally, a day before) with a link, then another 15 minutes before with a link (if the interview is on TV, radio, etc.), and then after with a quote or message from the interview that is aligned with a communications plan (we have one, right?) with a link. The post-interview tweet is important…it lets you shape the messaging so that even if someone doesn’t listen, they are getting the message that you want them to. The calendar should have every possible event. Start of practice, games, interviews, birthdays, Kenner, community outreach events, etc. It helps make sure that nothing is missed, there is time for compliance to review (if necessary) and, importantly, to see where there are dead spots. A dead two weeks in the Fall, that’s where you record the players working out and post it (I know at least one fan that would enjoy that). Slow August, why not have a fan poll (yay, fan engagement!) or start a countdown to the start of the season using players numbers (33 days way, time for Ewing clips…an idea I stole from a NY Giants site; nothing wrong with checking out what others are doing and take what works) or interesting player profiles/Q&A or a special message from coach/players. During the season, have the local fan clubs send in pictures from game watches…maybe make it a competition and the winner gets extra swag and/or guest Hoya and/or a paid for game watch at the end of the season. Even if its cheesy, make it so that if you are a fan of the program, you follow/friend/Tok’er the official Georgetown social media handle. So when the program does have some messaging, people are paying attention to your official content and are engaged. In addition to the calendar, there should be policies in place so posting isn’t willy-nilly. For example, come up with a compliant policy for when NLI are signed (and please make the announcement special) and policies on what the official page can link to and like. Anyway, like I said, I’m not a communications professional and I’m sure there are ways to make all of this even more impactful...this is just the basics. And some or all of this may be in place, but it sure does not seem like it. It is past time that the program started to get its together in this area. Sorry for the long, wine induced rant. hm

I'm not gonna bark about the last place prediction. We all know the situation. There was chaos. There was defection. We lost half our team just 8 months ago. But hopefully we can start seeing some of these articles say "there's a rebuild in place, but it might be on hold for another year", instead of just "what a mess it is down at Georgetown".

Maybe Jerry Carrino just mailed this one in--it's very harsh as to Georgetown. However, he's no Bleacher Report contributor, having covered the Big East for 17 years. Now that Bill Reynolds has semi-retired from the Providence Journal, Carino may be the longest continuous Big East beat reporter, at least among the Northeast schools. Sometimes, reporters hear things, right or wrong. Unfortunately, AAU folks pay attention, too.

OMG. With a writeup like this, we'll never be able to recruit anybody for the '21 incoming class. Wait, never mind. That's how much significance to attach to this.

Unless and until the Hoyas prove otherwise on the court they can expect more of these types of predictions and articles. It's neither surprising nor unwarranted given what has happened---departures from supposed stars; the mass influx of new and unherladed players and the adverse impact on practice time of the pandemic. We may not like what others have to say, but last year it was going the other direction as many "experts" pegged the Hoyas for anywhere from 4th -7th heading into the season and had them as a tournament team.

Here's Carino's picks from this time last year with the actual finish:
1. Seton Hall (13-5, tied 1st) 2. Villanova (13-5, tied 1st) 3. Xavier (9-9 finished 7th) 4. Georgetown (5-13, finished tied-8th) 5. Marquette (8-10, finished 6th) 6. Creighton (13-5, tied 1st) 7. Providence (12-6, finished 4th) 8. St. John's (5-13, tied 8th) 9. Butler (10-8, finished 5th) 10. DePaul (3-15, 10th as usual)
He picked Seton Hall and Villanova, was safe with St. John's and DePaul, missed on Creighton, X and Georgetown, and everyone else was a toss-up.

I could agree if there was any mention of Q or Morko. A writer that thinks Juggy is the most important Hoya coming back has done no homework on Georgetown....

I think his point was that it is a guard driven conference and much will be asked of those guys bc we don't have depth at guard. That will be fixed in 2021.

I disagree because for SH he writes about Rhoden and Mamou.... not one mention of a current SH guard...

I agree with the writer in that Blair is key to our improvement. He's a very experienced senior in NCAA minutes, one of two players who have been with Pat for three years, and one of two returning upperclassmen in a roster of 13 players. Even though he came in with a shooter's reputation, Blair has been an average 3-pt shooter (32%, 34% and 33% each year with high usage), while being a below average defender. To compete with the top of the BE, we need to increase our 3FGAs, while maintaining a top-half 3FG%, and defend the 3FG line. Blair shot 5.1 3FGAs as a frosh on 22 mpg, 3.0 as a sophomore on 13 mpg, and 6.1 as a junior on 26 mpg. His best 3FG% year was as a sophomore when he averaged 34% coming off the bench (Akinjo & Mac's freshman year) when he had his lowest minutes per game (13 mpg) and lowest 3FGAs per year. It would be huge if Blair can improve his 3-pt shooting to around 37%, provide 20 mpg of efficient offense and be a steady, average defender. If not, with all the new guards, a versatile Clark and even walk-on Robinson, Blair needs to sit or not shoot so many 3s. Just by inserting a better defender, the team will be better.

Juggy is a complimentary player. I really hate when people throw out stats as if they are the be all end all. Basketball isn't baseball. Your teammates with most players make or break you. Juggy shot in the low 30s 3pt last season but you have to take into consideration that he started off super cold. Then JA quit the team and remarkably Juggy got super hot. Then as the season went on and playing 38+ mins caught up to him Juggy shot worse. I wrote all that to say Juggy will shoot high 30s if we have a good PG and we remain reasonably healthy....
