Some of those shots were panicked off balance attempts with little chance to go in. Frustration set in and some desperation.
Hope we can wipe this from our memories quickly. Jagan and Terrell are probably going to have to play with their nicks and pains the rest of the way. Just gotta dig a little deeper.

Tough loss. Legs were definitely heavy in the second half, which affected a lot of our shots. Thought a lot of that had to with Providence; they definitely came in with the game plan to be physical throughout to wear us out, fouls be damned. Unfortunately, refs again gave us the short end at home which is really bad when the other team intends to make it a foulfest. Becoming a recurring issue with us where we are just not getting the whistles you would expect at Cap One. Understand the numbers are not there in the stands, but gotta make it a more hostile environment for the officials than just one "three blind mice" guy.
Diallo continues to be a tough matchup for us. Much like Saddiq Bey for Nova... too quick for Pickett, too tall/strong for Mosely. It's the one matchup type at the 3 that we have no answer for with our personnel. Mosely took a beating tonight and didn't get rewarded for it at all (getting raked on the hands by Pipkins, the missed charges, run over in another collision late).
Cooley I think made a really strong adjustment against us. He was willing to give up drives in exchange for taking away open 3s; all their guys were crowding our shooters with no regard for giving up penetration. Our guys made their fair share in the paint and got to the line a lot, but it came at a physical cost.
I think Timmy did some good things, but agree with the comments that he is generally overmatched at this point. His length covers up for a lot, but he still doesn't know where he should be and what to do in certain situations. Unfortunately, Q played a pretty weak game himself; got stripped numerous times and wasn't a factor at all on the boards. That all being said, with only 3 fouls I think Ewing has to have Q on the floor down the stretch. You get those two late missed Prov free throws, who knows. May have put some late game pressure on Providence with 2 extra possessions in a 5-6 point game.
Mac... I know people will have their hot takes on his limited minutes. Think it was mainly bad luck that forced him out (stepping on the Providence player's foot). Some may say we rushed him back, but with the team as shorthanded as it is, we really needed to try to work in another guy to take some minutes. And while it was understandable he was rusty, he was definitely hunting shots outside of the flow of the offense. Should have definitely gone to the line a few more times than he did, but I've said enough about the refs tonight.
We are not dead yet, but I think it definitely makes this weekend's game at Depaul (a disaster last trip there) a must win. Can't be putting ourselves in a position to need 3 of the final 4 to get in given the difficulty.

Saturday becomes a must win. There’s a path still if we beat DePaul. Essentially we’d have to split at home with Xavier/Nova and split on the road with Creighton/Marquette. The former is doable, the latter will be quite tough. But until we lose 3 more we are still alive in my opinion. I agree, and we need Yurt back as many have already said. He would've provided one or two much needed baskets during the drought tonight. I also think Xavier is a must win as well now. Maybe we can squeak by with those two and a good showing in the BE tournament. But most likely we will need to upset one of Creighton, Marquette, or Villanova.

We didn’t have trouble getting decent shots up. They just didn’t go an. Many rimmed out. It happens. The team got more selfish starting in the first half and it seemed to carry over. We will agree to disagree, we were struggling on offense, there is nothing else you can call a 10+ minute drought. If there were that many "good" looks, you do not go 1/4 of a game without a hoop. Please, I know you HATE Mac and even Yurt, but at some point you need scorers, even if they are not "efficient". Honestly, it is sad how much you hate our own players. I really do not understand your agenda or why you follow this team. Not having a consistent inside scorer killed us during that dry spell. Provy was able to press our guards much more closely and none of them can consistently create their own shot.

It’s not like something changed. Some shots didn’t drop including 5 in close. We also made a bunch of FTs during that stretch. It’s not like we went scoreless. I love how I have an agenda while being pretty positive and saying shots didn’t drop it happens.

Yet another game where the Ed Cooley haters get proven wrong, and he’s too classy to ask them how his ass tastes. (Did I just post that? I should delete myself)

Georgetown would now have to win four of its last five to climb past Xavier and Providence and they're down to nothing on the bench. An 8-10 record won't cut it anymore after a Quad 2 loss like this. At Marq and Creighton are almost assuredly losses. That leaves at DePaul, home with Nova and Xavier. Obviously with the current state it seems unlikely they win all 3 but it’s certainly possible and would provide 2 more Quad 1 wins. Do that and there’s a chance but tonight was a killer no doubt about it

PC ultra physical and refs let it go. Finally looking tired, forced shots and no stops on D. Fouls were 22-13 in our favor without counting the intentionals in the last 66 seconds. We’re not going to get much better than that.

We’re not going to get much better than that. You've got one team intending to be as physical as possible without a care if there's a whistle or not. Yes, they got whistled for more than we did and that's a a function of just hacking, pushing and grabbing all night. But that doesn't mean that the refs didn't miss a LOT of obvious calls that should have went our way. On the other side, you've got another that is trying to stay out of foul trouble to just finish the game with enough players on the floor. Tough way to play if the officials lose control of the game.

Beating DePaul is going to be extremely difficult IMO...they are coming off a stinker and will be primed...we're worn down and not sure who we can count on to play...a very tough challenge...need to rest mentally and physically and hopefully be ready by Sat. (including a much needed and productive Yurt)...

I don’t disagree with your analysis about how each team was playing, but it’s very rare to get double (or more) fouls called on one team vs. the other.

The offense was horrible. Nothing went right in the second half and WAYYYY too much iso ball. Especially for that team that had 0 iso ball scorers. Mac wasn't on his game, he was both rusty and injured and Yurt eas really needed, yet didn't play. This would've been a Mac game, but he just couldn't get in his game and went down. It's not looking great on that front. One you needed to have. Stinks. Essentially the Hoyas guaranteed a first-round BE game tonight.

In the games I've seen, not this most recent one, they just had no intensity whatsoever. If the Hoyas are leading early, DePaul will quit and that game could be much better.

We’re not going to get much better than that. Wasn’t meaning to comment on foul differential as much as game flow that allowed a lot of fouls to go uncalled - both ways, but the totals could easily been twice that for PC and possibly not quite twice for the Hoyas who are trying NOT to foul given the short bench. But the net effect was to take the Hoyas’ legs away in the second half.

The Providence bigs were just tougher. No disrespect to Tim or Qudus, those guys are just really big. A little bit of finesse from Yurt definitely could've helped. But the amount of Iso ball from our guards will not win us games, especially if the three guards are not iso ball scorers. Blair has gotten better at getting his own shot, but I don't think Allen or Mosely get their own shot well at all.

We need a few more bodies back.
