Difference between getting in late on a high rated recruit who has interest from top programs versus going after a local under-the-radar kid. Need to recruit more efficiently and not just scattershot. The fact that Walton remained open after he took his official visits means that he invited other schools to jump in late and that he’s at least considering Georgetown. Both Creighton and Georgetown were allowed to jump in late and have passed multiple schools that he took official visits at. I’m not saying to get your hopes up, I just don’t think that’s a waste of time. Sorry to interrupt, but waiting is heil these days.

Just posted his senior mixtape I have a hard time believing Walton is 6'5", looks more like a traditional ball handling guard than just a knock down 3 point shooter to me. That said, he is an absolute bucket getter. All over the court, hand in his face, different spots around the perimeter, in traffic, in the post, driving the lane.. I know it was a mixtape, but very impressive. Could be a good rotational scorer day 1 who really turns into a volume scorer as he matures.

He's got an Austin/DSR look to me. Never looks rushed, can score in lots of ways, and good size for the 2 -- though I'm guessing he'd play some 3 here.
Not as polished as those two coming in obviously, but more of a skill guy than an uber-athlete.

Corey Evans says today that the Hoyas aren't the favorite, but they have a chance with Walton:

Really think we were in the mix but lack of visit really hurt the Hoyas here. He had said about a month ago he wanted to get to campus :/

But I think it's interesting that the Hoyas seem to stay in the running for him, even when it would be easy to drop us from the list. Maybe he ultimately *will* go someplace else. But there must be something he likes about the school, or the coach, or something, for him still to be considering us despite no campus visit, the problems this year, etc.

Gtown isn't listed in this article Fwiw...
Hopkins coach Ken Novak told Sports Headliners Monday morning coveted Royals shooting guard Kerwin Walton might choose the University of Minnesota as his college destination later this month.
Novak said Walton is likely to announce a decision in late April after selecting from a final list of Arizona, Creighton, Minnesota, North Carolina and Vanderbilt. Walton’s Hopkins teammate of a year ago, Zeke Nnaji, had a breakout freshman season at Arizona and is declaring for the NBA Draft.
Creighton was the first program to offer Walton a scholarship and with all its key players returning will be a preseason top five team next fall. North Carolina is one of college basketball’s “blue bloods” and coach Roy Williams has personally been recruiting Walton. Vandy coach Jerry Stackhouse, who was an accomplished NBA shooting guard, has also made a favorable impression on Walton.

He never even had a chance to visit. It was going to be a long shot.

We know his final list is six teams not five, no one else has reported another list for him besides that one. Also Kerwin was been engaging with hoya fans occasionally on IG, which doesn't mean much since recruits do it all the time, but I think we would be able to tell by now if we were out of the running.

I don't think Hoyas pay recruits. Don't think they are contemplating such. But we are competing in the same arena with programs that do. Why? That is the thing that I do not get about our continued effort to pull in 5* - we're never going to get them. Why don't we try something different?

As the only school on his list that hasn't gotten a visit, and looking at where we currently stand as a program compared to the other 5, I think it's logical that people would consider us in 6th place for Walton's commitment at this point.

He's barely top 100 and exactly the type of player the Hoyas should be going hard after and landing if they want to be successful. That they're not doing so is the problem. 247sports.com/Player/Kerwin-Walton-46057218/

Really, the only "recent" (and it was over 10 years ago) period when we pulled in any 5 stars (or close) was the early JT3 years where we benefited from the early success and got guys like Macklin and Monroe. For all the crap that JT3 took, he did have a pretty good recruiting record at getting the 4 star, top 100 type talent. Even after the Final Four years lost their luster, we managed to get a fair amount top 100 type talent, like Porter, Tyler Adams, Hopkins, Copeland, Peak, White, DSR, Derrickson, Govan, etc. Granted, some of those guys did not work out to their rating, but the fact is we got them. To be competitive in the Big East, we need top 100 type talent. That does not mean lower ranked guys can't be good (of course they can), but you're not going to win in the Big East constantly trying to polish diamonds in the rough.

So the real question is whether there are any top 100 recruits that we missed out on- and that we otherwise would have either definitely gotten or at least had very strong chances to get - because we devoted time and resources to 5 star/top 25 kids that we did not get. I don't pay enough comprehensive detail to recruiting to answer that, but hopefully others can?

For the class of 2020, the Hoyas extended offers to the following players that are considered 5 star recruits in at least one ranking. Jaemyn Brakefield Josh Christopher Terrence Clarke Isaiah Jackson Jalen Johnson Caleb Love Jalen Suggs They also expressed interest in or watched: Brandon Boston Hunter Dickinson Adam Miller Jeremy Roach Jaden Springer Isaiah Todd To my recollection, none of the recruitments of the players above were very extensive or time consuming for the Hoyas. The Hoyas didn't make the final list for any of these recruits. At least for the 2020 class, it doesn't seem like the Hoyas wasted time and resources chasing 5 star recruits. Keep in mind, the Hoyas top targets for this class were 4 star recruits like RJ Davis, Terrance Williams, Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe, and Jamari Sibley.
