Not to even mention Pickett. Wasn’t this guy a “defensive beast” by the end of last year? He has been defending rather well this year too, but tonight was not his night in any way shape or form. Everybody gets a bad one, but this was so bad it may count as two or three horrible games. He needs to shake it off and focus.

For all of the attention on how much we needed this, Butler and Georgetown both needed this game. For Butler it was about showing they could rebound from some bad performances and solidify their standing as a top 20 team. For us, it was about showing that we could hold serve at home. We put Butler on the ropes, but they got focused at halftime and played like a different team in the second half.
They exposed our weaknesses. Pickett was awful tonight, but we don't have a viable option to put in his place. We just don't have any depth in key positions. Plus, Mac just hasn't been able to single handedly carry the team like he did earlier in the year. That's part of conference play -- teams know us better and can scheme for our tendencies. Now, we sit at 2-6 in league play. It'll take a run to even sniff .500 in the league this year.
It's a frustrating loss. In some ways, we played well. Wahab pleased me the most tonight -- he seems to have some real potential to grow. Ewing has shown an ability to develop big men, and hopefully he can do it with him.
Right now, we just aren't a very good team. It's sad to see a weak performance before a tepid home crowd. I wish we could've gotten the win. Just didn't happen. On to the next one.

Yurt7 and Mac missing several early shots to open the second half didn’t help. Should’ve tried driving more or drawing fouls, no ball movement. May want to look at your facts again. Mac's first shot of second half was a make at the 14:38. His first miss was at the 11 min mark of second half. Perhaps you meant Yurt and Pickett?

Pickett finishes 0-7 for the game, a -17 on the +/-. Mac was 1 of 9 after halftime, Yurtseven 1-6. Ewing needs a better halftime talk. It’s almost funny because we’ve typically played much better in the second half. Yurt got some really good shots that he normally makes but didn’t. but basketball is a make or miss sport. You can get all the good shots in the world but if you don’t make enough, you’re toast.

We had this in the first half. What the heck happened in the 2nd half?! Worse half of the year. It started with Pickett's poor play on McDermott's 3pt shooting on back to back to back to back possessions. Pickett shoots more airballs on wide open threes then he makes. It’s weird. He’s a D 1 player. Standing there wide open. No one within 8 feet. Air ball. All the damn time.

The decision to leave yurt in the game with 3 fouls was terrible. His defense is pathic. CAN WE PLEASE PLAY Wahab and maybe Igoefe.

The only bright spot is Q seems to be getting better. He's actually become tough to stop right around the hoop. (Meanwhile Yurt misses point blank shots . routinely. ) That is as positive as I can be!

Georgetown shoots 21 percent in the second half. That won't win many games.

Yurt is getting worse every game. Needs to hit the gym. He’ll get eaten alive in the NBA. Imagine him trying to guard Embid.

McDermott 25pts Baldwin 13pts The only 2 players to score in double digits and scored half of the team points

Not sure where the remaining wins are coming. I think at best we go 2-2 against DePaul (x2), PC, and SJ. Maybe one other surprise along the way.
5-13 again looks likely. Situation aside, that’s not cutting it in Year 3 (with Year 4 looking no better). I want Ewing to succeed, but it’s beginning to get harder to justify the results.

I am not impressed with Ewing's coaching of this kid. Lacks toughness, no shot he plays in the NBA.

Right, he's getting eaten alive in college. He really was just an offensive threat for much of the season. And when his shots aren't falling, we don't get too much. That said, we need him. He's still one of our top 2-3 offensive options. Wahab may have more potential, but to do anything this year, we need Yurt to make some shots and defend more assertively.

Man. Certainly feel likes another lost season. The cascade of bad play is mind boggling. I stan'd for Yurt having seen him play a lot - and he is currently a liability on both ends of the floor. No fire. No basketball IQ. No presence in the paint. Jamorko is so lost I dont know where to start. McClung is forcing almost everything he puts up. And Allen, while steady at times seems to have egregious lazy turnovers at crunch time.
Ewing and his staff have to be evaluated - not because I think Ewing should necessarily be fired yet, but because the culture, the georgetown basketball brand, and the fundamental basics that we should see with some form of consistency have continued to melt away rather than materialize. While I dont necessarily put the transfer onus all on them, the absolute spiral the current team is on falls squarely on their shoulders. So many in game situations that are clearly not emphasized enough. From leaving Butlers only real shooter time after time. To the lack of knowledge on the most basic shooter screening the ball handler switch which led to the game winner.
At what point does the program hit rock bottom? I've thought we've reached that point many times - but here I am pondering if were there again.
Now maybe they run off a 3 game winning streak and this soliloquy looks foolish - I yearn for that to be the case - but nothing we've seen the past couple weeks makes those tea leaves gleam that way.
Short rotation. Illness. Injury. There have been excuses these past few weeks that kept rose colored glasses a viable view. But after a week to prepare. An 11 point halftime lead in a must win game - the wheels fell off...again.
I will root for this team through seasons end, because the remaining guys, who have been through a lot this season, deserve our support. But the increasing deja vu of being overmatched, outcoached, and outplayed in conference play cant go unnoticed.
I say this with the utmost sincerity, but an uncomfortable amount of disgust. Hoya Saxa.

If Rutgers can turn it around in Year 4 and earn themselves a Top 25 ranking, we certainly can too. Can’t predict the future, that’s why the games are played.
