Candidly, I prefer not to repeatedly hit myself in the head with a 2-by-4 pondering "what-ifs"...I'd rather look at what's in my driveway than the luxury car that drove away.

It's mainly because it's only him. Their team isn't that good, and there are no other scorers on that team besides him. Especially at the guard spot. Bacot has been better than expected but he's not really a kid that can go out and get his own. Many of their marquee recruits have disappointed, and their grad transfers haven't been that good either. He's basically playing 1-5 out there.
Their ranking is based on their name. They're not a great team right now, and overall talent level is down.
The relationship he and his family have with UNC assistant, Hubert Davis was always going to be tough to beat.

Could it be team chemistry disruption a la a certain Jesuit university up the coast?

They beat #11 Oregon and have lost only to pretty good teams in Michigan, #6 OSU and #5 Virginia. Not that bad... We'll see how the season goes.

We'll see how the season goes. There's some nuance here. The lack of elite talent effects Anthony because he's forced to do everything, and defenses are overloading on him. He's still very good, and when he plays well they can win. When he has 12pts 6 to's and 0 assists like he had against UVA they don't have anybody else that can step up and fill the void. That's all I'm saying.

And to respond to the original inquiry, at least in my opinion, James' presence here had nothing to do with Cole's decision.

He is one and done anyway. We need players in the Villanova Model -- Stay at least a couple of years. I don't question the talent though.

If he's smart, he will sit out the rest of the season. He's playing in the NBA. UNC is not good this year. His father knows that the career is more important then where you get drafted. He's already proved that he can perform at the college level. At this point he's risking both injury and reputation trying to carry UNC. If they miss the tournament when he's playing, even if it's not his fault, you know he's getting the blame as their star player.

UNC today announced that Cole Anthony had a "procedure" on his knee, and that he will be sidelined for four to six weeks.

I'd wager he's not likely to play again this season.
