Did the players pull the cord here before Ewing could? Seems like it since Alexander and Gardner weren’t part of this wave. Only you and I seem to care about this. Everyone else seems to think Josh got kicked off the team. Based on the timeline of how this all broke I really question that. No suspects tampering

The official announcement on Sodom read: "Georgetown University men’s basketball coach Patrick Ewing announced that freshman center Chris Sodom has been dismissed from the program for a violation of team rules." (emphasis added)
The official announcement on Walker read: "Georgetown University men’s basketball coach Patrick Ewing announced today that sophomore forward Antwan Walker (Washington, D.C./Hargrave Military Academy) has been dismissed from the program." (emphasis added)
In contrast, last night's announcement read that LeBlanc and Akinjo "will not be playing for the men's basketball team effective immediately and will not be members of the team for the remainder of the season." (emphasis added)
It could be irrelevant wordsmithing, but the Sodom/Walker announcements clearly used the word "dismissed" whereas last night's did not. I agree that we shouldn't necessarily assume LeBlanc was dismissed. The university certainly hasn't said so. We are just assuming.

Does anyone have access to the transfer portal? Can they confirm whether or not Alexander and/or Gardner are in there? I'm speculating here (like many others) but perhaps this was an institutional decision that once an athlete puts his name in the transfer portal, GU isn't going to continue investing in him and let him finish out the season. Frankly, this isn't an unreasonable position for a program to take. And there are clear benefits for an athlete to put his name into the portal before the end of the first semester -- you can play sooner at your new school and it saves a half season of eligibility if you're not willing to play out the entire season (or, hypothetically, concerned you will be kicked off the team before the end of the season). It's possible that the decision to remove Akinjo and Leblanc from the team is unrelated to the legal issues that are being discussed so much in this thread and are related to their decision to transfer. Hey we have another one on board of the James and Josh just transferred train. This should be the easiest question for a reporter to find out. Was Josh kicked off the team or did he just transfer? It’s a simple answer. If we notice when the carefully worded statement about investigations came out it was well after the 1st one that said they are no longer part of the team. If they were truly connected wouldn’t they have been put out together? If they transferred then they are no longer part of the team. It doesn’t mean they were kicked off. If in fact he did just transfer it changes the narrative on a lot of this stuff we are all opining over about the allegations.

One thing I see that continues to be overlooked is that the statement from Georgetown Athletics regarding LeBlanc and Ackinjo reads as a season long suspension and not a complete dismissal from the program that Walker and Sodom media releases by the Athletics Department/University clearly stated. I think that's done purposely and is an important fact. The players entering the transfer portal seems to be their choice and might be a reaction to essentially being suspended from the team for the rest of the season...

I wouldn't contest this strenuously, but it seems arguable that LeBlanc might have not stuck through November (after he sat and received reduced playing time) had he been the moving party.

As an aside, I don't think playing time should have had any role in this. If you commit an infraction that deserves not playing (like Walker and Sodom clearly did), then you should either be dismissed or suspended, or not. I don't understand why there would be an in between.
In other words, LeBlanc should not have played 11 minutes against UNCG because he was being punished. Either you suspend someone or dismiss them, or you don't. I do not think you can view minute allocation as an indication of whether someone is being punished. Or, it should not work that way, at least.

I honestly think all of this is the result of Josh playing 11 minutes in the loss to UNCG. I think he finally had enough and James because he was good friends with him decided if Josh isn’t going to be here then neither to I. Based on the timing and everything we know about the allegation timeline it makes the most sense. If something comes out that materially happened related to the legal matter since Saturday I reserve right to change my opinion.

Now whether the punishment was for these allegations or something completely different is the part we don’t know. Based on the timing I’ll say it isn’t but we should all hope it is. Either way Pat handled it poorly and it cost him his 2 best players. Maybe 1 was destined to leave in some fashion no matter what but I’m thinking he could’ve saved the other.

The statement just says they are no longer on the team. It's pretty clear that they quit the team and put themselves in the transfer portal. Akinjo is NOWHERE in the CIVIL complaints. There are no CRIMINAL CHARGES against any current players. No one was apparently arrested the US Attorney has not charged any Hoyas with any crime. It's not great that there are civil complaints and TROs ... but frankly I could go to the DC courthouse right now and file a civil complaint against anyone. The factless speculation on this board is pathetic. Everyone is outraged about civil complaints and not criminal charges -- big difference. Also, as pointed out above, it's pretty clear from the language of the GU statement that the players LEFT and were not DISMISSED. I'm not saying that I'm not deeply concerned about the complaints but perhaps, just perhaps, there's been some investigation and due diligence into the allegations.

Why are so many people going off the assumption that Josh was kicked off the team? Nowhere has any of the information currently released made that claim. The only definitive statements made are that Josh and James are no longer on the team and they have entered the transfer portal.
Are we completely ignoring the possibility that they decided to transfer on their own since they were unhappy with the way the season has progressed (I.e playing time, criticism of playing style, being called selfish, etc)? And now, because of that and the resulting announcement, someone went digging and the legal matters are coming to light?
I’m not saying there’s no dots to be connected here, but it seems very possible that the dots require connection by rather curvy lines instead of straight ones.

One doesn't have to assume that Josh was kicked off the team to wonder if the fact that he is no longer on the team (voluntary or otherwise) is related to internal team discipline for something.

It increasingly looks like the University, due to its cone of silence policy and its decision to issue a statement on LeBlanc and Akinjo jointly, has looped Akinjo into some heinous allegations, in which he actually played no part. A whole lot of people need to answer for a whole lot of decisions over the last few weeks.

Whether Josh decided to leave the team or the team decided to suspend/dismiss Josh seems less important than understanding the timeline of when the University learned about the serious allegations against Josh and others and why it allowed them to continue to play until yesterday. If they were simply conducting an internal investigation prior to making a decision, then they should say so and explain why Josh is gone and others aren't. They also need to provide clarity as to why Akinjo is leaving and why they lumped him into the statement regarding Josh. For better or worse, this is now a national story and the University needs to be proactive in getting in front of the narrative - otherwise others are justified in assuming the worse.

If we start losing our 2020 class, burn it down, burn it all down. What an embarrassment. I spent 8 years of my education at Georgetown and so did my brother. I was a student season ticket holder all 8 years. I say I went to Georgetown to my family and friends with pride. I cannot do that anymore. I told my wife not to wear the Georgetown gear I have gotten her. She was actually starting to like the school and the fact that I love the basketball program, she was looking forward to the Syracuse game. I told her we can't go anymore. This sucks. good grief, relax man.
