I ask this honestly how can Ewing be viewed as doing the right thing in this situation based on what we know? Lay out that scenario where he comes out looking positively. I unfortunately agree with this...even if he knew absolutely nothing which would be hard to fathom..I dont know if anyone will believe him anyway. Akinjo aside. We are looking at Sodom, Walker and LeBlanc gone in the first 3 years for off court issue and the potential of 2 more players...anyway you spin it...it looks really bad for Patrick even if he had the best intentions. What would look bad is if these things that are allegedly happening were swept under the rug like they are at many other high major programs/Blue Bloods. This situation is called Tuesday at some schools like Baylor and Kansas for examples...

Players had been accused of burglary, sexual assault, threats, and previous violence against women and there was a maximum ONE game suspension that resulted.

Baylor and Kansas may be bluebloods in BB and other sports but they are not bluebloods in the academic world. This news is very troubling because G'town is a blue blood academic institution. It is besmearched by this behavior. And do not get me wrong. I am a G'town lover and in as much pain as any alums or students right now. The Hoyas are class and have been class. This is ugly. It certainly sounds like the "behavior" of some of the players implicated was not screened adequately. I have no clue who to blame for that, but it is not good.

With temporary or permanent restraining orders (a roommate my last semester of undergrad had a restraining order on him by his ex-girlfriend she also had one on her) they are put in place when offenses haven't or can't be proven and are trying to protect parties involved. In college all of the roommates got a talk from the head of student affairs about state law that we needed to keep him away from his ex-girlfriend who was also at the same school. But, also any of us who would talk to her could get our roommate in violation, but also we would be in violation and then have real criminal issues to deal with. The restraining order isn't proof of criminal offense, but usually trying to keep things cool. But, if a person breaks a restraining order it is a crime, but also is a crime for a roommate or friend acting on their behalf. This is not accurate. TROs are not filed because something "can't e proven". It's a placeholder while other processes take place, which typically take much longer. Trying to sugarcoat this doesn't work. Not sugar coating. Most TROs don't turn into anything else. Going with facts. With 10% to 15% can turn into a criminal case. With verbal threats and text threats the police don't do much with threats. If they had burglary with finger prints or proof items taken in another persons possession that usually doesn't take much time. Sexual assault can take time if there are witnesses. Currently the TRO was given approval to move forward after hearing a sworn statement, the formal hearing for the TRO is in February.

The "look" is bad especially on the heels of the admissions scandal for Gtwn athletics. Accountability is not something that Gtwn does well. Will be interesting to see if this situation is different. Would think that gtown will have to be a lot more transparent than usual to address what actions they took. Otherwise the usual silence and self congratulations that the university engages in will I think do some lasting damage. Unless we can get in front of this would think that it would have long term damage for recruiting at least.

Wow. Program is completely destroyed. I have nothing to say about the allegations or dismissals, but, from a purely basketball side I don’t see how we recover from this.

Because if you are, you are surprisingly clueless about the process. I'd have to guess that you're not, however, because there's no such thing as a "formal hearing for the TRO in February". A TRO happens immediately. Then it becomes a preliminary injunction, which I believe was granted in one of these cases, though I don't remember whether it was just the conference scheduling. There are numerous attorneys on this board who will attest that TROs are not implemented because something "can't be proven". In this case, it sounds even less like what you're trying to paint it as.

It is unclear what Ewing knew. I work at the university. And let’s just say the communication channels are sometimes baffling in ways that even insiders don’t understand. It would not surprise me to hear that Ewing was not given the full story.
This is a university issue. Lawyers are undoubtedly involved. I really would be interested to hear how they reviewed these allegations, as there must have been such an internal review process. Tomorrow it will be disappointing if Ewing had to stand for himself alone. DeGioia and Lee Reed should be there. I would suspect that Ewing was asked to wait this process out.
To be clear I’m really not defending anybody. This story needs to play out, as undoubtedly there is more.

In the “Me Too” era, I don’t see how the players named can ever suit up again. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were student protests if they did.

There's no inalienable right to play basketball at Georgetown. There's certainly no due process required for them to be withheld from game action until this is resolved. There's credible allegations against three players. And they kept playing. That's called "sweeping it under the rug".

The three named students will have a hard time suiting up again at a major D1 program until the legal proceedings are played out. I can't imagine any program taking a chance on these students.

Want those type of alleged bullies on your team, representing your U? Don't think so.

To be clear I’m really not defending anybody. This story needs to play out, as undoubtedly there is more. This has to be the way it plays out - Ewing didn’t know the full extent, due to privacy issues, therefore can’t be blamed for the relatively lax suspension of LeBlanc and no suspension for Gardner/Alexander. Now that all the information is out, LeBlanc was dismissed and Gardner/Alexander are soon to follow. Akinjo left of his own accord, to get off a sinking ship. This is a great story as long as Ewing claims to not have the full set of information until today, in addition to not having any written communication about knowing more than just the initial LeBlanc stuff. If there is any documentation of Ewing knowing the full extent of information that led to the TRO, prior to today, I think Ewing is toast.

Folks, all we have at this point is several allegations by a couple of people, and most on here immediately conclude that they are true...could they be lies, exaggerations, misrepresentations, false accusations or revenge tactics of some kind...I have no idea what the truth is, but there are two sides to the story...By the way, Akinjo and LeBlanc were both high level academic kids coming out of HS...

I'm not saying it isn't but no information has been provided to state that there isn't more then her accusations. If there was more, I'm sure the players involved would have been in handcuffs and not at school much less playing basketball. Once again I get it guilty until proven innocent...

To be clear I’m really not defending anybody. This story needs to play out, as undoubtedly there is more. If someone at the university knew the full allegation but chose to only tell Pat something along the lines of “hey Josh broke a rule and you should keep him out one game and cut his minutes in half” without informing him of the other players or what happened then we shouldn’t have a basketball team. If Pat got that bit of info and didn’t insist on getting the full details he shouldn’t be a college coach that is the leader of young men. This was like the Rick Pitino defense. “I had no idea what my coaches were doing.” Well that’s not a good excuse. To be clear I am not saying Pat is the only person to blame or is even the worst person in this situation. Everyone involved including the players and anyone that knew should pay the price. We can’t pretend we are a holier than thou program that plays by the rules and then pull this. If anything we should be overly cautious when dealing with matters like this. I am a firm believer in innocent until proven guilty but in that case what changed today? If we aren’t going to be a major player again we can at least be proud of the team we root for.
