Going against a program like Michigan right now might just be a bit of a stretch, but can't hurt to try, unless it's taking away from other more realistic recruitments. There should be plenty of top 100 guys that if we prioritize early we can lock down a good relationship with before the blue bloods come calling. Could be that officials like this aren't the best use of time or indicative of us having the best strategy. The first part of this, I agree with. This part: "Could be that officials like this aren't the best use of time or indicative of us having the best strategy." sets up nicely for a damned if you do half of an argument that also includes a damned if you don't. You can imagine the comment had it come out the the kid was up for an official visit but we turned him down on the grounds we thought he'll probably sign with Michigan and didn't want to spend time on hosting him..

I definitely don't mean turning down a kid of this caliber that is interested in an official. I just think being involved in a ton of 5/uppper 4 stars every cycle hoping to get lucky and grab a couple isn't as good of a strategy as identifying specific needs and getting involved early with specific, realistic targets that can fill them. Not sure if offering half the top 50 is necessary or beneficial when we could instead focus on specific logical targets in the 50-150 range or lower if the staff is confident in their own evaluations.

Isaiah Abraham proved to be one of the top offensive talents this past weekend at this year's Pangos All- East Freshman/Sophomore camp. While this was my first time seeing Abraham live, he showed his ability to shoot and attack the rim, along with his good size and long arms at 6-foot-6. “Defense wise I've been working on moving my feet against smaller guards,” he said. “On offense I’m working on being more patient and getting to the basket more. I'm just aggressive. I'm going to work hard and play defense.” “Moving forward in my game I feel like there's a lot for me to improve on,” he continued. “I want to improve my IQ , be more patient and just work on everything.” Abraham currently plays at Highlands School in Warrenton, (Va.) where he is set to start his sophomore season. So far he’s already started receiving offers and interest from schools and looks to show people who he is and make a name for himself this season. “So far I've received offers from Georgetown, North Carolina A&T, George Mason, Bowie State, North Texas and interest from Indiana who came to my practice and liked how I played, and George Washington among others.” 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/Basketball-recruiting-Isaiah-Abraham-Pangos-Georgetown-George-Mason-North-Texas-173963681/

“As he’s working through this process, we wanted to show him all different types of schools,” his father, Michael, said Sunday night. “Small schools, big schools, city campus, college town, east coast, west coast, Ivy League. We wanted to really show him all these different schools so when it comes time to make a decision he does it based on something.” The junior from Windermere, Florida, is doing his homework. Last weekend, the 6-8, 210-pound Stewart was one of three official visitors at Ohio State, making the Buckeyes the fourth of five scheduled visits. The process of getting there started during the early summer, when his high school team played in Georgia and went against Milton Alpharetta, a team led by point guard Bruce Thornton. Thornton is an Ohio State commitment for the class of 2022, and the Buckeyes were on hand to see him. They also saw Stewart, and as the summer progressed they saw more of him as he played for the same AAU program (Each 1 Teach 1) as Thornton and fellow 2022 commitment Brice Sensabaugh. It led to an Ohio State scholarship offer. “Coach (Jake) Diebler came down to a practice, we scheduled a Zoom call, the whole staff got on to say hello, coach (Chris) Holtmann was on at the beginning of the call and gave Sean an offer,” Michael Stewart said. “Ohio State is Ohio State. It was interesting. We knew the history so we had an interest in coming down and taking a visit, so we all agreed to do an official visit.” The goal is to pick a school before the end of the 2021-22 school year. During the summer, Stewart checked out Florida and Central Florida locally and also has taken unofficial visits to Georgetown and Harvard. This fall, the family has taken official visits to Stanford, Michigan, Georgetown and Ohio State. Up next: Duke this weekend. “We do everything we can to make sure he works just as hard off the court,” Stewart said. “It’s a priority for us to deal with schools who offer not only a great basketball program but an outstanding education, and I think that everybody that’s on our list fits that category.” “It’s going to come down to a feeling that he has and where his heart is and how he connects with the players and the staff,” Stewart said. “Having a nice gym or locker room or whatever has become secondary. You’re going to spend a lot of time with your teammates. You’re going to spend a lot of time with the staff. That’s what becomes most important. How comfortable you are with the people that you’re going to spend more time with than your family?” www.dispatch.com/story/sports/2021/11/01/ohio-state-official-visit-leaves-impression-sean-stewart-family/6231875001/

Justin Edwards | SF | Imhotep Charter Updated Ranking: No. 11 Overall Previous Ranking: No. 56 Overall Difference: +45 Coming in as the co-biggest stock riser in this 2023 update is Justin Edwards, who has found himself skyrocketing up 45 spots. While he currently slots as the No. 11 prospect, a case can certainly be made that the 6-foot-7 wing is a top ten caliber player. He had a terrific spring and summer and played his way up onto the Team Final U17 roster, adding some minutes into their Peach Jam Title efforts. He's got plus-size, length and athleticism and is one of the more skilled, polished and well-rounded wings in the class. He consistently produces and impacts the game in a variety of ways from his defense, to rebounding, to his three-level scoring and to his passing. Edwards holds offers from Auburn, UConn, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette and Penn State amongst others with UConn being a team to keep an eye on and Kentucky also showing interest. 247sports.com/LongFormArticle/Top-ten-risers-2023-Top150-Rankings-Mackenzie-Mgbako-Matas-Buzelis-GG-Jackson-Justin-Edwards-Kylan-Boswell-Reed-Sheppard-173025735/#173025735_4John Calipari and his staff will host another 5-star visitor in a few weeks, as 2023 wing Justin Edwards will be coming to Lexington to check out campus. Joe Tipton of On3 reports that Edwards has scheduled an official visit for the weekend of Nov. 18th. Edwards recruitment has gained a lot of steam over the last few months, as he got to showcase his skillset next to Jalen Duren and Dereck Lively Jr. as part of the Team Final squad that won Peach Jam this AAU season. With that, he’s accumulated quite a few offers in the last several months including Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, Virginia, UConn, Georgetown, Oklahoma State, and several others. At 6-foot-7 and 180 pounds, Edwards has great length and athleticism, which help him be a factor on both sides of the floor. On offense, he is able to score it from all three-levels, while also showing solid ball handling skills to take his man off the dribble or push the ball in transition. He also shows all the tools to be a solid defensive piece, alongside a fantastic work ethic to continue to get better. www.aseaofblue.com/2021/11/3/22759925/justin-edwards-kentucky-basketball

Dennis Parker, Jr. came in at No. 49 in the recent 2023 Rivals150 update. This ranking makes the Richmond (Va.) John Marshall High small forward, the No. 11 prospect at his position in his class. Even with the 6-foot-6 wing missing most of his time with his Team Loaded (Va.) 3SSB 16u team, Parker, Jr. still carries a lot of interest from college programs. “I currently have offers from NC State, LSU, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Florida, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, Rutgers and a few more,” Parker, Jr. said. “I would say, of my offers, I am hearing the most from NC State, Oklahoma State and Georgetown.” Georgetown: “They are a pretty good program. My boy from Virginia, Mac McClung, started off there. I heard a lot about them from him and his situation, and that got me interested.” “I just came back from injury, so a lot of schools haven’t seen me play in a while,” Parker, Jr. said. “Most of the schools talking to me have offered, but as I keep getting back to myself, maybe more will come over the next year. I have been on visits to Maryland, NC State, and Richmond. I don’t have anything scheduled, right now, until next year.” “I want to go to a program that has great chemistry, a program that is unselfish. On and off the court, I want to go to a coaching staff that will always build you.” basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/four-star-dennis-parker-looking-for-the-right-fit

Matt Reed is #5 in white. Speaking of juniors with size who can shoot the ball, Lewisville (Texas) iSchool’s Matt Reed can really stroke it from deep. He catches the ball ready to shoot, gets it off quick and has easy range to 23 feet. He’s not the most athletic guy, but he finds bodies to box out, plays with a good motor and had mid and high majors watching him closely throughout the weekend. After a tough go of it on Friday night, he bounced back quite nicely on Saturday. TCU offered during September and he’s got offers from others like Cleveland State, Georgetown and Rice while many others look to be close to pulling the trigger. 247sports.com/college/clemson/Article/The-Scrimmage-Ashton-Hardaway-Penny-Hardaway-Julian-Phillips-Jordan-Walsh-LSU-Arkansas-174846022/

Isaiah Coleman is currently the No. 80 prospect in the 2023 Rivals150. He has been able to maintain his spot due to his physical makeup and upside. Well, it looks as if the 6-foot-5 wing is starting to realize that upside. Coleman runs the floor with ease, and he attacks the basket with a purpose. The game is slowing down for him in the half-court, and he is reading the floor better. “It’s nice out there,” Coleman said about his recent visit to Xavier. “They don’t have football, so they are all about basketball. Great facilities.” basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/shaw-s-takeaways-made-hoops-southeast-previewIsaiah Coleman is the No. 80 player in the 2023 Rivals150 ranking. This ranking makes the 6-foot-6 Coleman the No. 23 small forward in his class. Coleman burst on the scene last season after a big performance at the CBG Spring Series with Fort Washington (Md.) National Christian School. College coaches immediately took notice. "I have offers from Ohio State, George Washington, Maryland, Georgetown, Xavier, Temple; there are a lot of them, really. I would say Xavier and Maryland are the ones I am hearing from the most." Xavier: "I actually just took an official visit out there. They are all about basketball, I mean, they don't have a football program, so they are all about basketball over there. The facilities are nice; they're getting a new gym and everything." Maryland: "I have visited there; I like their program. They win and have pros. They are Under Armour, too; I like that. They want me to play the point; they're talking about that. All in all, I like their program." "Schools like Ohio State and Georgetown, they have offered me but we haven't really started talking about the programs and visits and stuff, so I don't really know a ton about their programs yet." basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/isaiah-coleman-looking-to-play-fast

Seems like Lamothe is becoming a real priority for the staff. Hope it works out for the Hoyas.

That lineup above would be for '23-'24, so after his 2 is done. Would love to have him for more than that... but could also see him being in a good position to go after this year. Who knows? Fingers crossed.
