Love the signing but aren't we out of scholarships yet? Hes a preferred walk-on so no worries there! Not being NCAA fluent what the heck does that mean?

Now I'm really confused. So this kid was not recruited or offered a scholarship anywhere else? Why are we so excited about him? Or was he recruited at other schools but wanted to come to GU so badly he turned them down?

The 2 walk-ons last year got into 1 game maybe 2 for a few minutes. You do have a valid question considering they say he added a prep year and didn't come straight from high school, don't know much about his recruitment.

Or was he recruited at other schools but wanted to come to GU so badly he turned them down? A preferred walk on is typically a step up from the tryout walkons from a talent perspective. I'm not thinking anyone expects him to get much playing time early on but it's another decent talent in practice and could maybe one day carve out a role on the team. In a lot of cases a preferred walkon may have been getting looks from other schools but they had their mind set on which university or universities that they wanted to attend. There seem to be more stories of preferred walkons becoming stars in college football but that's likely just due to the number of positions available. There have been a few stories in the college basketball world over the past few years so you just never know until they get on campus and see how they develop and the roster turns out. He just seems like a good kid that has some skill, is excited about going to Georgetown and has been provided an opportunity to continue playing competitive basketball.

Caution. No need for this thread to go South. Great kid, it sounds like. Loves Georgetown. We love the vibe we are getting.

Whoa. I'm just trying to understand how the system works and what role the kid would be expected to play. Now I do. Thanks.

I love getting guys, regardless of their scholarship status, that really want to be Hoyas. However, that dude does not look like your typical walk-on.

To me personally, this young man has a game that is hard not to like!
He possesses all of the intangibles of a 3 star guard! He can handle, shoot, pass, block shots, make steals, and rebound!
Personally, I like him! Welcome to Hoya land! Wishing you the very best academically and on the court!

It is always hard to tell from highlight videos - but Azinge does not look like a typical walk-on level talent in his video highlights. His shot is kind of odd (set shot, really low release, left foot way further forward than you usually see), but he seemed to have nice touch and really good range. Just don't think he would get that shot off against Big East level defenders unless he was really wide open. He seemed to have some ability to get into the lane and to finish around the rim with both hands, and he has nice size/length for his position. Not particularly quick or explosive, but clearly an effective player at his level of play. I have not idea if he competed against strong competition in California or New England, but he certainly looked like a good player at the level he was competing.
He looks like the kind of guy that could have scholarship opportunities at some level if he wanted them, so it is a nice bonus that he wants to be at Georgetown as a walk-on. This also would indicate that he is really bought into what Georgetown is about as an institution at a really high level, which can only be a positive.

Sweet lefty jumper w a quick release, but it looks like he prefers to finish in the paint w his right. Nice lateral speed on D. Goes without saying that a kid who can triple jump 47+ feet has good, but he is obviously an athletic specimen. Happy he’s a Hoya, hopefully he gets some run.
