The formal announcement is next week. Who are your picks?
I'll go with:
1st Team: Howard, Powell, Booth, Ponds, Govan 2nd Team: Baldwin, Strus, Diallo, Marshall, Paschall 3rd Team: Alexander, Heron, Hauser, Akinjo, Krampelj All-Freshmen: Akinjo, McClung, LeBlanc, Zagarowski, Bey. (Quinerly nowhere to be seen.)
Player of the Year: Howard Rookie of the Year: Akinjo Mike Brey Coach of the Year Award: Wojciechowski, although I think Ewing and Steele deserve some attention too.

I have the same for all BE, but I think Paschall and Booth may be swapped. Who knows though.
For all freshmen, I have the same, but Joey Hauser instead of Zagarowski

Joey Hauser has Freshman of the Week 5 times I believe. Given that Govan was snubbed last year despite a double double average, I would not be surprised if Akinjo was snubbed despite his assist lead.

My only hesitation is whether we can get 3 guys on the feshmen team - although I think it is definitely warranted.

I think we get all 3 frosh named.
I could see Paschall making first team and Govan dropping to second team.
Who votes? If it’s the coaches, then all 3 frosh make it for sure.
Also, Hauser will make second team.

I can only see back to 1992, but...
Akinjo - 3 assists short of BE conference rookie high mark of 99. 1 steal behind DSR for most steals by Hoya in rookie conference season since 1992. 3 three pointers behind DSR for most 3's made in conference by Hoya rookie year.
Mac - 5FG short of Georgetown conference FGM rookie mark (DSR and Otto tied with 67)
Leblanc - 10FG behind. Also Otto had 131 rebounds, Leblanc is at 115 currently. Leblanc also has 16 blocks, tied with Copeland for most (Otto had 15 his rookie year).
Leblanc has been phenomenal, but for me PG in BE as rookie is toughest, and statistics bear that out - with 7 more assists Akinjo has the 2nd most assists by and Frosh or Sophomore in BE since 1992. I think if he continues to play well, he wins it based on position and production.

I think Joey Hauser is first team, probably frosh of year also. Our problem is who do you pick. BTW, who votes for these teams, awards?

At halftime, Lavin’s projected first team was:
Booth Howard Sam Hauser Paschall Ponds Powell
Andy Katz said maybe Marshall from Xavier.
No mention of Govan.

I fear Govan will be 2nd team. He is an offensive oriented player who is 6th in scoring per game in the conference.
Hausser shooting 47% from 3 is probably the biggest challenge to Akinjo for ROY.

It would be absurd if LeBlanc doesn't make the all freshman team, though Otto Porter didn't either. My fear is that while he's been great, LeBlanc's game and style are much quieter, and he's easily gotten less attention that Akinjo and McClung. I would argue he's the most deserving of all three.

Ed Cooley/Providence and Willard/Seton Hall will vote for LeBlanc. That’s 2.

Govan might be 2nd team but should get 1st over Paschall. Averages more points per game(6th overall), more rebounds per game (3rd overall) and more blocks per game (3rd overall) whole hitting 42% of 3's in conference games(4th overall). He's got Paschall beat in most statistics including steals while averaging 6 less minutes per game. Now Paschall has the fact that his team sits near the top of the standings in his favor.

Paschall has competition with a guy on his own team which suggests he has more help than Govan. No way should both Villanova and Marquette get two guys. The team that finishes first can get two players, not the team which finishes second.

In a year when there are 2 clearly dominant conference teams, I would have no problem conceptually with 2 from both teams. If Quette loses out, they shouldn’t get it, btw.

We are one spot behind Paschall's team at the moment... I get that but it's not like we are one game behind them in the standings. Wouldn't be surprised if that plus Nova's recent success gives him a boost. MCI's point about help on his own team is a very valid one but not sure if it will shake out that way.

Govan, mac, Leblanc and akinjo all need to be mentioned / get recognition. Would be a shame if not frankly.
Fingers crossed
