Josh LeBlanc is a true throwback to Coach Thompson's players from the late 70's and 80's, love that dude.

A tale of two halves. No quit in this team...progress continues. Patrick seemed so proud. Me too! On to Nova. Maybe we win. After all it's Super Bowl Sunday. Hey, you never know?

Couple of quick thoughts.
1). To pull out this win after spotting them a 9-0 lead is something of note. It seemed like we were never going to get over the hump to get the lead in this game.
2). I don't know what we finished with turnovers, but it couldn't have been very many. Especially considering the way we started the game. It is just so hard to win when you are turning the ball over 17 or more times a game.
3). We found a way to win a game where we got clobbered on the boards. If we didn't give up so many offensive boards, we win this game by double digits.
4). Pickett's one basket all night was a monster.
Isn't it nice to win back to back conference games.....

The all freshman version of the post game press conference: Akinjo and Leblanc Josh is a character! Love it!

The all freshman version of the post game press conference: Akinjo and Leblanc Josh is a character! Love it! I really liked Akinjo's answer to Bailey's question about dribbling, the fact that he understands that the ball sticks to him sometimes is great, hard to solve an issue if you don't think there is one... This team is good enough to finish 3rd in the BE in my view, they just have to get it done...

Josh LeBlanc is a true throwback to Coach Thompson's players from the late 70's and 80's, love that dude. I agree with you. I remember when I saw a clip of Josh last year in high school when he blocked a shot and slammed the opponent to the floor in the same movement. Even though he isn't built with the physical power of a Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, Michael Graham, Ralph Dalton, Ronnie Highsmith, from the 1980's he has a motor and for absolute effort and hustle that they would appreciate.

Maybe my favorite win of the year. Team couldn’t make a shot in the first half but they kept fighting/scraping and kept it within reach (partly thanks to hustle plays by Leblanc). Second half came out hot and kept the pressure on the whole way. Played smart against the zone and even employed a halfway decent zone ourselves. Without a couple of lucky banked in 3’s for Xavier we take the lead earlier but undeterred by those shots we kept pushing, took the lead and finished strong. PE had his starting five ready to finish it out and they did. Akinjo was huge in the second half! Great team win, Hoya Saxa baby!

Just finished watching. Great job by the team and staff hanging in until things turned around. Not exactly a great opponent, but 3 weeks ago we lose this game. Contributions all around, and of course a memorable half by James.
Who knows, maybe we put it together and surprise Nova Sunday. Little by little the confidence is growing.
Hoya Saxa.

Really great coaching to jump into the press late after Akinjo's made free throws. X wasn't expecting it at all and we got the immediate travelling call. Very nicely done.

Three quick stats:
1. Seven turnovers ties a season low.
2. First game of 50% or better shooting since Jan. 2 game at Butler.
3. Allowed only three opponent steals. Also ties a season low.

Good win, some positives and negatives, good to have before a big game. Very nice to win a game which wasn't played the way that we'd want it to be. Xavier gives us matchup problems, I hope that's the last we see of them. Some things I saw which I especially wanted to note. 1- That zone is just not good at all, it needs to be worked on to be usable next season, it was exposed brutally this game. 2- Greg Malinowski is really focused on dribbling when he touches the ball, he needs to let the game come to him and shoot it when he's open, play your game, no need to mold it just to fit this team. Also, I really want Blair to play more, he's a solid player who can contribute on both ends although this is the type of game where he doesn't fit what we need that day. I really like how this team has lineups that can work every situation and Ewing took advantage of that in the second half which was absolutely huge. The team played well in that second half and need to stay focused n defense, those two lucky banked in Quentin Goodin threes miss and this game is a blowout in our favor. Also, the big east officiating is still bad. Good win, excited to see where we stack up against Nova, not expecting a win. Also, that trend I mentioned early in this thread of us playing poorly after big wins may be broken after that second half.

I wonder if we could close the officials break room for repairs and make them hang out in the tunnel until they call one of our home games fairly? I'm sure Ted Leonsis could have a water leak?

Totally unimpaired rewatch notes:
Josh missed his first two shots, then went 8 of 9. Missed his fourth too, went 7 for 7 from there. Only thing slowing him down tonight was weak whistles
Akinjo turned it over twice in early minutes, Jesse three
9-0... time to grow a pair
Freshmen scored 50 of 80
Trey’s dish to Josh was primo, hockey assist to Mac
Defense on the floor was better tonight, but rebounding wasn’t
Seven TOs
Who sees Rodman in LeBlanc?
17:05 in 2nd half, Akinjo scoreless, finishes w 23
Are any of the fouls on LeBlanc legit?
Mac’s foul on Hankins was worthy.
Akinjo can run my offense anytime, anytime. Our backcourt is ridiculous. James’ tie up of mArshall at 11:42 is strong
First chance to take the lead, 16something. First lead? .... still waiting... 9:36, Josh from GMal’s great takeawa
7 turns, 10 fouls. For once, those are not good half totals
“He know how to go down in the ring.”
We somehow make teams burn TOs. Where are the advanced analytics on that?
“This kid’s legitimate. They haven’t had a point guard like him in....”
Out-snot, our -rebounded, but they turned it over twice an much as us.
Block stats are light.

I understand Cuse and SJU, but X was a dominating loss. We blew a 17 pt lead Yes but it wasn’t close. We had no business winning that game with our abysmal play after racing out to an early 17 point lead. The other 2 games we really should have won.

We won the turnover battle 14-7. A huge component of the win. Especially down the stretch when Xavier turned it over and we didn’t.

Either way you can't look at it like that. Every win/loss/game event contributes to where you are today. You can't just take the results you want in those games and assume all things would remain the same. Lessons were learned from those losses that contribute to later wins that put us in the position for those games to make a difference.

Final Thoughts:The Good Akinjo 23 pts, 4/7 3 FG's, , 5 rebs, 4 ass Leblanc 17pts 8/11 FG's The Bad Xavier starts the game on a 9-0 run The Ugly Akinjo 0pts, 0/2 FG's in the 1st half Hoya bench 1st half stats 1pt, 0/4 FG'd, 1/2 FT's Final Grade: B The team had a sluggish start was down 9-0 and ended the 1st half down 8, 36-28 The team lead by James Akinjo 23 pts in the 2nd half and 4 big 3pt shots, 2 by Mosley, 1 by Mourning, and 1 by Akinjo Saw the team take the lead for good with 4:56 left as Akinjo hit a 3 pointer followed by Mourning's 3 pointer within a 50 second time frame 4-4 in the Big East, alone in 3rd place heading into February and it has been 3 years since the Hoyas did not have a losing BE record heading into Feb. A- in my book. 1 turnover in the 2nd half...doesn’t get much better than that. I also much rather start the game slow as opposed to starting the 2nd half sluggish as we have in all our losses.

Josh LeBlanc is a true throwback to Coach Thompson's players from the late 70's and 80's, love that dude. Let's not forget that 4 of those 80s teams were also Patrick's. At this point, can we say LeBlanc is Patrick's kind of player? All these kids, especially the freshmen, have learned a lot this season. Second half they came out with a new determination and stayed with it all the way. Show X who the better team is. Sunday is going to be a very interesting game. Mac, AKinjo and LeBlanc all taking their games to new heights
