Solo possession of 3rd place. Overcame some questionable officiating that definitely affected the swing of the game plus banked in 3s to win the game. Nothing to lose and everything to gain against Nova on Saturday. Think the guys will definitely be up for that game. Have to avoid a slow start like tonight.

Once Greg ripped the ball away from Naji, everything turned. Way to play with grit in the second half

Now we’re talking. Tons of memorable moments in this one...McClung’s no-look pass to LeBlanc for the slam, Malinowski ripping away the offensive board, Govan making that nice end of game block, and of course the monster rebound and putback by Pickett. And Akinjo pouring it on down the stretch. This team is a LOT of fun to watch and I’m starting to delude myself that they can win 7 more...

This team is growing up. Unselfish play tonight was overall better than maybe any other game this year. Lots of guys with big moments at various spots in the game. Several come to mind but someone with more time tonight will go back and point out each of those.

Can't wait to get home and watch this game. Team is starting to take on 'never quit' personality of it's coach. Great way to defend the home court.

So Xavier made 12 out of 25 three's, killed us on the boards, and we still won. Just a few things to note -
Akinjo with 23 in the second half. Remarkable. After our awful shooting start (4-18) we shot really well the rest of the game, and after starting 0-9 from three, we then made 8-11. That's only slightly insane. Huge, huge offensive rebound by Pickett when we really needed it. And something I wouldn't have believed possible - the only turnover the team had in the second half was the shot clock violation. Just a great second half offensively. Amazing.

Is it possible we are growing and learning and getting better as the season goes on? Our one possession coin flip games are turning into wins by 3-4 possessions. Is it February Hoya basketball is actually.... dare I say... enjoyable to watch? What is this madness?

Remember in November when we were forcing questionable shots/passes with small leads under 2 minutes? MIGHT THIS BE GROWTH?

Nice to be the team doing the stalking, building in confidence over the course of the game for once. Hopefully a sign of things to come!

Akinjo TOOK OVER. And did so within the flow of the offense. 5 steals also - not too shaby

Had to have this one. Makes the Villanova game interesting and truly feel like we can play with house money.
We only have 4 more home games (one of which is Nova) so I still think 9-9 is the realistic goal for this team. That being said other than at Nova and at Marquette, I will think we can and should win every other game.
Sure I would like to dream of 12-6 and maybe a bid (I really don’t think 11-7 is enough unless it includes wins against the top 2), but I think 9-9 and not playing Weds at MSG would be a real sign of progress in my book.

I loved Akinjo's and 1, because it was starting to look like another drive that would be blocked, but he cleverly switched hands mid-air and made the shot and the FT-- really one of the biggest plays of the game.

Final Thoughts: The Good Akinjo 23 pts, 4/7 3 FG's, , 5 rebs, 4 ass Leblanc 17pts 8/11 FG's
The Bad Xavier starts the game on a 9-0 run
The Ugly Akinjo 0pts, 0/2 FG's in the 1st half Hoya bench 1st half stats 1pt, 0/4 FG'd, 1/2 FT's
Final Grade: B
The team had a sluggish start was down 9-0 and ended the 1st half down 8, 36-28 The team lead by James Akinjo 23 pts in the 2nd half and 4 big 3pt shots, 2 by Mosley, 1 by Mourning, and 1 by Akinjo Saw the team take the lead for good with 4:56 left as Akinjo hit a 3 pointer followed by Mourning's 3 pointer within a 50 second time frame 4-4 in the Big East, alone in 3rd place heading into February and it has been 3 years since the Hoyas did not have a losing BE record heading into Feb.

Akinjo took over in the 2nd half and 5 steals!! YESS! The steals was the one thing I've been disappointed with-- he looked like such a ball hawk in HS. Today we saw the steal and turn it other way James that could really make this an exciting team!
