I am thrilled with the win and Mac's play, not only scoring but with 5 assists and hustling for loose balls and just overall fearlessness. Solid performances from the rest of the team, except obviously Trey and Greg. A small point, but I remain concerned about their ability to get the ball in and advance it against double team presses late in games. One move PE made at the end was to have Greg throw the inbounds pass after Pickett predictably threw one away. Still haven't seen us try anything but the predicable pass to Akinjo who is normally trapped in the corner. No baseball passes or passes to a big who then can see over a trap and return to the guard. We will lose more close games if we cannot fix this.
Thrilled James played under control and did NOT play hero ball. On the flip side, I was hoping he and Leblanc would be bigger factors in BE play..I know.. I'm greedy..I want James under control and to be a big factor!!
Anyway..if Mac played the first SJU game, or had gotten off the bench against Creighton..I think we win both. I have not given up on this season. Let's keep getting better.

Let's hope this game is a turning point. Won a close game on the road. Turnovers or not, they rose to the occasion.

On the inbounds Govan is the safety valve at half court. We’ve run that play and Greg has made that pass numerous times. If you watch again or go to the play by play you’ll see it. It’s not option one but the inbounder has to be patient.

SJU guards were gassed at the end. Ours weren't. Just saying.

Oh, I get it. When his team loses, Ewing is a bad coach, but when his team wins, it’s because the other team’s coach is bad. I have seen the play of all the BE teams this year, and none has the eye-pleasing offense of Ewing’s. None. Our youth, defensive liabilities, and end-game jitters are our boogie man so far. The coach can help mediate some of that, but most of it will take time and new personnel. But to question Ewing’s coaching acumen on every bad play and loss simply reflects premeditated prejudice. Plus 1 on this post. We are grooming three frosh all of whom play significant minutes. Bad stuff happens. I know PE is not coaching "that". Listen to his huddles and the criticism on the TOs. So when the team loses it is his fault, when they win he gets little credit. The jury is still out, but I find this team very, very exciting. The games are all great. The mistakes are frustrating. I guess we have two pretty good sized recruits next year plus the NCState transfer. Govan is good, and will be missed, but the whole Patrick Ewing Era is a work in progress. I sense good things are evolving. Heck, not many teams go from tenth to third place in two plus hours. We are now in the hunt with a maturing team. Enjoy

Great win by the guys - also helps that Mullin burned all his TOs early and his team is SO undisciplined. Horrible coaching job by Mullin; I couldn’t believe he used that last time out with 8:30 to play, when he had a tv timeout coming in 30 seconds. Still, this is the type of game we’ve blown in the closing minutes for the past few seasons. I’m not convinced that this costs St. John’s an NCAA bid, and I’m not convinced that we’re primed to go on a roll. Nonetheless, nice to finally win one of these on national television. Well, at least it's not Big Pat, for a change.

Mac is averaging over 20 ppg in BE play and is likely our best player next year. I hope to see the same kind of progression out of Akinjo as we head down the stretch. You know, as long as Akinjo is facilitating and can knockdown that three,I am happy. However,he seems like a very scrappy kid who also loves to score.

Amazing to me that this team scored 90 points with 20 TOs. Imagine if they start valuing the ball: end games won’t be as much an issue when up 20. Agree with an earlier post that said we seem to play sloppier the bigger the lead. Well, 88. LeBlanc's was uncontested there at the end.

25, 5, and 5. Mac.
Do we have 3 Big East all-rookie teamers???
Some of it is a function of them all getting minutes, compared to other mature teams where freshman sit. But all 3 are putting up numbers!

To say that Mullins is a joke takes nothing away from PE. Did you see Mullins tieing his shoe wile his assistant gave instructions during that one timeout? Give Cooley, Wight, or McDermott the St. John's players and the Johnies are leading the BE.

This also tells me that this team can play for a tourney spot this year... Easy there, big guy. Why? Do you really believe this team can't play or be in the mix for a tourney spot this season? Outside of Marquette & Nova, which team do you believe is obviously better than Gtown?

Phenomenal team win. Let’s hope this is a turning point. Big shoutout to Mac...obviously he is a very talented scorer that is blossoming in front of our eyes but the bigger takeaway from him is just his relentlessness. He is a competitor every second he’s on that floor. The offensive rebound he got which led to a tie-up, the steal he had before halftime, and not allowing himself to be tied-up in the paint before hitting the difficult, falling away bank were all big plays that take guts. I’m not a Clemson fan, but Dabo Swinney has his corny saying “BYOG” or bring your own guts, and Mac exemplifies that.
Honorable mention shoutout to Jagan and Kaleb. These are guys who have been passed over by younger players, yet have fully embraced their roles coming off the bench. Their toughness and defensive prowess were critical today too and they’ve both had solid starts to BE play. Kudos to them for putting the team ahead of themselves and buying into Coach’s message.

Thrilled with the win obviously but man those turnovers. The 3 pt shooting in conference really has been something. It allowed us to have 19 TOs and still win on the road. James now has the best assist rate in the Big East during conference games.
Still not a fan of the extended minutes with 0 starters on the floor, but thought we closed the last 10 minutes with the guys whom should be closing the game. On to Xavier!

The team pretty much never got out of rhythm today. They looked like they knew they should have beaten SJU the first time and that was without Mac.
I was about to mention that Ewing has found roles for both Kaleb and Jagan that they are embracing and thriving in. Trey would be as well except he often rushes himself and takes shots he can't make. Malinowski is a mystery - he hasn't been nearly as confident since that one great game he had. Nice to see Blair play a very vital role in the game today and aside from his overeager outlet pass over Kaleb's head, a really nice game.
The "rest unit" is vital to the starters finishing strong, but it seems like they always get pulled a sequence or two too late. Today was better than it has been.
Finally, nice to see Josh get extended minutes and look confident. He is a vital piece of this team. Same comments about Jamorko. He's not there yet but each game he looks better.

Exactly right Frazier, I'm not saying they're a lock but they have as good a shot as any team in the 2nd tier group to make a run at 3rd or 4th place in the conference...

Here’s the thing that kills me. This Georgetown team has been in the drivers seat to win almost every game this year outside a complete jerk off to SMU. 26 points is what keeps us from the 19-1. Most losses have been by less than 5. Most losses also should have been wins as we were up with less than a minute to go. It’s not an arguemnet of can this be a tournament team, but it should be a conversation of why this team will be a dark horse to go to the sweet 16 for the first time since ‘07.

I agree with this take. Sometimes I don't know what the board expects Ewing to do. He's not making Akinjo jump in the air and attempt a bounce pass, GMal jack quick Js or Trey attempt fadeaways. The board was complaining about the lineup in the 2nd as they were building the lead....

The other way to look at it is that teams with a 10 turnover differential probably win <5% of games on the road. We were very fortunate to win today. We can't continue that and expect to come out on top. Clean up the turnovers and value possessions and this becomes a very dangerous team.

Getting Blair some consistent minutes should be a priority. He hits big 3s at critical times. He should play every game. I struggle with the DNPs and < 5 minute games for Blair. He’s good! Would have been fine giving 5 of Mourning’s minutes to get Blair up to 15. I say 3 of GMals minutes...until his shot returns...
