This is really, really sad. Wasn’t he at Howard game? Or maybe it was St John’s.

Victor was indeed at the Howard game. I passed him on the way out as he was coming over to say hello to Big John... I pointed him out to my daughter, who is just old enough to comment that she remembered him...

This is horrible. I'm with Vadi on this one. How could Page go so wrong? I know he's had some major tragedies in his life, but there is no excuse for this. Zero.

I know you mean well Lic and this is not a shot at you but page doesnt deserve any type of sympathy or remorse at all. That's despicable any way you want to look at it. I hope the victim is ok.

I guess we don’t do innocent until proven guilty here any more, much less preserving some sense of human dignity even if convicted. Good to know. I get that the accusations allege heinous behavior, but let’s not just say “he’s an animal” and treat him like pestilence.

I get that the accusations allege heinous behavior, but let’s not just say “he’s an animal” and treat him like pestilence. Innocent until proven guilty is a legal standard. It has become frequently common in discussions (including politics) to throw out that standard whenever considering misconduct, as if in some way because someone hasn't been convicted of a crime, one cannot make any judgments about them even when presented with overwhelming evidence one way or another. Keep in mind that the criminal legal standard - beyond a reasonable doubt - is just that - a standard. That is even more particularly true in this instance, when Page essentially gives us no reason to give him the benefit of the doubt given his history. From a legal standpoint, I agree the jury hearing his case (if he doesn't plea) should apply an innocent until proven guilty standard, but that's not a standard that has to inform our opinions. Personally, I don't know enough about the Page situation to make judgments one way or the other, I just don't think we need to hold ourselves to a legal standard on a Georgetown message board (or even in everyday conversations). I also haven't seen a single post calling Page an animal or anything remotely close to that. If anything, I think the response has been fairly muted. So I think that's a straw man type argument at this point.

So I think that's a straw man type argument at this point. A) Beantown said no sympathy or remorse. I feel those things for road kill, so yeah, not really a straw man there. B) Show me your overwhelming evidence and we can talk. Until then, I prefer to withhold judgment. Maybe you are reading a different news source than me, but so far we’ve mostly heard sound bites, not overwhelming evidence. C) In my experience, the least sympathetic are the ones most in need of sympathy. You know, the least of my brothers thing, or am I the only one clinging to that silly?

I don't know what to think. But I do know that the whole thing, from all sides, makes me sad. I don't think it's any surprise that Victor has had problems for a long, long time. I guess, naively, I had hoped that the old Big John would show up to help the man. I don't know why I'd have thought that other than he'd done it in the past. Though, to be fair, not for a man that had moved on from Georgetown. JT, as far as I've ever read and heard, was always available to his players after they had moved on but I'm not aware of him having interceded or imposed himself like he did when the guys were under his direction. I understand that and it makes sense. I guess I just sort of hoped that he'd have special concessions for guys in trouble like Victor so clearly has always been. Not because it's on him to do so in any sense. But because he is who he is and has that sway and has earned the respect and he's, apparently, damn good at it.
That's a lot of words but it's still all sadness. I hope the victim is okay. And, in the long run, I hope something positive comes out of this for the victim or for Victor or as a cautionary tale somehow. Just something positive because it all seems really awful. There's got to be a lesson somewhere.

TMZ has a video of what appears to be the end of the assault. It does not portend well for Victor.

He’s clearly a very sick individual and a risk to society. Hope he gets the help that he needs and until he does he needs to be put away. So sad.

One of the most talented players every in a Hoya uniform, and a favorite of mine. But I've seen the video of the attack on his girlfriend's daughter. Sadly, he is where he should be at this point.
