Good grief. How much basketball do you watch? The Editeding Golden State Warriors have ebbs and flows. See Lebron bricking layups last night? This is game 7 for a freshman led team. Sure Govan is a senior, but our team will only go as far as our freshman backcourt can carry us. I have no problem with the freshman making mistakes. I have no issues with the offensive execution. But we are letting a team with no offensive firepower score with ease. We have an above average freshman defender, and he plays one brief spurt. We have a senior grad transfer guard, and he plays limited minutes also. I just don’t see how that half could be viewed as anything other than a let down. They are shooting ridiculously, but our defense really does stink.

I was going to say this but didnt want to start a poopstorm.

How is it that Richmond with two freshmen guards is showing much more ball movement than the Hoyas who have a much more talented duo? It’s a matter of focus. If they are experimenting then experiment with getting the ball to Pickett on the wing, try driving and dishing (which McClung does at times) and focus on defending the perimeter.

They’re shooting better than they did in shoot around, but our perimeter defense is making it look like shoot around.

Every team can’t shoot lights out against us just by chance. At some point it’s more than a coincidence.

It sounds like Hoyas aren’t protecting against 3s again. Need to get out and cover with hands up.
I have no idea who is in at the moment.

You say focus, which may be part of it, but it's definitely something else as well.

5 of 7 from 3 for that freshman... the freshman du jour that goes off against us... rinse and repeat...

Hmm, first 4 minutes of the second half, Richmond shoots 5 for 7, including 4 for 5 from three. Seems like we are going from bad to worse.

Haha, it's more that operating against our defense makes the other team's ball movement look way better than it probably does against most.

Sure Govan is a senior, but our team will only go as far as our freshman backcourt can carry us. Why does this have to be the case when they're not the best players on the team? Because basketball has gone the way of the guard and the ball will be in their hands primarily. We saw exactly what happened last year when we had below average guard play. If we had other reliable ball handlers the offense could run thru at the 3 or 4 position that’d be one thing. But we have to rely on our guards to put people in the right positions, make the right decisions, and get the ball to the right guys. If they can’t or don’t do that, we’re going to struggle.

That was the first of many career ‘spurts’ for Mac. 7 points in about a minute.
