So now the Washington Post is reporting that the DOJ was instructing staff to only pursue the rioters from January 6, and not those who incited them, so as not to appear to be politically biased? So all this time while we thought that the DOJ was taking its time but accumulating evidence against not only Trump but many others, it turns out they were doing nothing? Pardon me, but this is a huge pile of steaming BS, and puts Jack Smith in a very difficult position.

A truly deplorable cult/party and that POS McCarthy let's them do this. I guess our HoyaTalk "Republicans" are all good with this, right? I can't imagine what moral gymnastics one goes through to associate with such a disgusting fascist cult. As Trump is arraigned, Republicans honor the insurrectionists Donald Trump could not have asked for a nicer arraignment-day celebration. During the very same hour in which the former president surrendered to federal authorities in Miami, his Republican allies in the House were, in their most visible and official way yet, embracing as heroes and martyrs the people who sacked the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in hopes of overturning Trump’s election defeat. In the Capitol complex, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), with sidekick Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and four other far-right lawmakers, held a “hearing” that honored participants in the riot, family members of Jan. 6 rioters and organizers of the attempted overthrow of the 2020 vote. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/06/16/house-gop-trump-indictment-reaction-jan-6/I saw this on Friday, and was nauseated by it. But hey, what about AOC and the Squad? They're way worse than this, right?

Both governors are Catholic--there are no claims here. If one was baptized in the Church they remain Catholic unless they are excommunicated or are heretics, apostates, or schismatics. Bishop Seitz is a good man and committed to migrant rights issues (he was the pastor at my church in Dallas before being elevated to the episcopacy in El Paso) but the use of the word "claim" is a poor choice of words at best. It's no better (and no more appropriate) than those in the Church that will tell you that Joe Biden and Gavin Newsom aren't "real" Catholics because they look the other way on abortion. Politics is replete with people who talk a big game and fall short but still come to Mass, and that's robustly preferred to those who clear out Lafayette Park to pose in front of a church they've never attended holding a book they've never read. I'm just using the same word used by Bishop Seitz. Calm down. Sheesh. “When a person claims to be a Catholic, we assume that they are going to try and live according to Catholic teachings and Catholic principles,” Seitz said That last part is, IMO, a HUGE stretch at best.

There are only two sides from which to pick. "Republicans" painted themselves into the corner they created. And, apparently, they're entirely fine with it. Democracy, shmemocracy, right? As long as their "values" prevail. If one could define a worthy value, that would be great. Also, good luck with that. These are the same folks that spout about originalism. And, they don't mean it as the haughty notions of men from long ago. They mean the part where the Founding Fathers were fine with being slave owners. They mean regression is a great idea. Because, why wouldn't we want to follow the advice of people that thought of women and black people as less than human, thought the musket was a dangerous weapon and couldn't conceive of medical science outside of using leeches? That last one is the only one that ages remotely well. In what other endeavor would one think the best path forward is following the advice of people that have been dead for over 200 years? Outside of organized religion, of course. And, organized religion, clearly, isn't remotely problematic amirite?

CNN — A conservative candidate who unsuccessfully ran for Mark Meadows’ former House seat in North Carolina in 2020 and was endorsed by then-President Donald Trump was sentenced Tuesday to one year of probation for violating federal campaign law. Lynda Bennett, a North Carolina real estate agent, pleaded guilty in March to one count of “accepting contributions in the name of another,” according to court documents. Bennett was also ordered to pay a $7,500 fine as part of her sentence. During the sentencing hearing Tuesday, Justice Department prosecutor Ryan Crosswell told the court the FBI had discovered Bennett’s crime as “part of a larger investigation.” www.cnn.com/2023/06/20/politics/lynda-bennett-campaign-finance-probation/index.html

This would be amusing if it weren't so totally preposterous.

This would be amusing if it weren't so totally preposterous. To paraphrase from the movie Chinatown: "Forget it Rooter, it's Texas!"

Adam said he will take this as a badge of honor - the absolute right response. This figures to be his last term in the Clown Show anyway. I love Katie Porter, but I'm publicly announcing I'll be voting for Adam in the Democratic primary to succeed Dianne Feinstein.

"Republicans" are such malignant clown morons. What "standards?" Hypocrisy, lies and insurrection? HoyaTalk "Republicans" must be very pleased that your party/cult has such "standards!" Tensions inside the conservative House Freedom Caucus have reached the point that some members are floating the idea of purging colleagues from the group. At least two hardliners have discussed — and proposed to Freedom Caucus Chair Scott Perry (R-Pa.) — trying to boot members who no longer meet the group’s standards, according to three Republicans with knowledge of the talks who spoke on condition of anonymity. The lawmakers declined to name who’s behind the ouster calls, underscoring the sensitivity of the situation. www.politico.com/news/2023/06/23/house-freedom-caucus-members-00103296

Typically, you need only put 10% down on a bond. So father/aunt need only $50,000 up front and also demonstrate to bail bondsman that they have combined collateral to satisfy the remainder if Santos were to flee or fail to appear. This is probably possible with the combined assets of the father and aunt. However, because it is Santos, an inveterate grifter, I'd like more reporting on the source(s) of the father and aunt's funds. For example, do either own homes? What is the equity in those homes? A bail bondsman would likely have done a credit check/asset search before agreeing to post bond.

Disgusting. This insurrectionist is secind in line to the Presidency. Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is throwing his weight behind the conservative effort to expunge the two impeachments of former President Trump, saying Trump’s behavior didn’t rise to a level that merited either punishment, and he would like to eradicate both votes from history. Leaving the Capitol on Friday ahead of a long holiday recess, the Speaker said he supports erasing the pair of impeachments because, he argued, one “was not based on true facts” and the other was “on the basis of no due process.” thehill.com/homenews/house/4065002-mccarthy-expunge-trump-impeachments/

Or maybe a new version of the Spanish Inquisition should be convened.

Until "Republicans" are embarrassed by idiots like this speaking for them and start rebuking them vociferously, the devolution will never cease. Do you "Republicans" really have no better messages than crap like this? Surely, there are a few of you left with some sense of morality and IQs north of 65 who can better represent you. Though, if there are, we surely haven't seen them in quite a long while. Using the deaths of five civilians and an international crisis as fodder for entirely stupid and deplorable sound bytes. Really? Where's your "moral outrage?" Or, do you folks buy this stuff? Your silence is complicity.
