Spineless. CNN — Conservative retired federal judge J. Michael Luttig has called the Republican Party base “spineless” for its continued support of former President Donald Trump and submitted that the GOP is destroying itself. “If the indictment of Mr. Trump on Espionage Act charges – not to mention his now almost certain indictment for conspiring to obstruct Congress from certifying Mr. Biden as the president on Jan. 6 – fails to shake the Republican Party from its moribund political senses, then it is beyond saving itself. Nor ought it be saved,” Luttig said in a scathing New York Times op-ed published Sunday. www.cnn.com/2023/06/25/politics/michael-luttig-republican-party-trump-rebuke/index.html

It's been a wrap for quite a while now.

I've been calling "Republicans" idiots for years now. But she should have limited her remarks primarily to the MAGA GOP cultists that now comprise the "Republican" party. They are effing morons. Those who vote for them are also effing morons. Ex-congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) offered a blunt assessment of her former profession Monday night: “What we’ve done in our politics is create a situation where we’re electing idiots.” “Look, I think that the country right now faces hugely challenging and fundamentally important issues,” Cheney responded. “And what we’ve done in our politics is create a situation where we’re electing idiots.” www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/06/27/liz-cheney-electing-idiots/

I dunno know about that. She has opposed 99.9% of his policies but don't think she has ever attacked him personally. Even if you disagree with his policies he is a "serious" person in the world of American politics.

Can we talk about the fact that the ex president and huge favorite for GOP nominee for 2024 president…. Has been caught on tape red handed committing a felony violation of the Espionage Act while he helpfully narrates every single element of the 37 federal indictments against him? Or the fact that he must be a convicted felon very soon unless one or more jurors goes full vigilante and blatantly disregards the judges orders on how to interpret the crimes charged….
This would have been one of the biggest stories of the 20th century. Because Trump was such an open firehose of crime and corruption it was not a top 10 Trump story of this century.
And tens of millions of Americans want to hand this obvious drunk the keys to the Republic again, with all of our kids in the backseat.
Because….Benghazi. Or Kenya. Or Hunter. (Choose your outlandishly overblown or manufactured outrage here.)
He should be in a cell for the rest of his life. If he were anyone else…. But in reality he is as likely to serve time as be handed the nuclear football again.
Greatest country in the world huh?

Any doubt that "Republicans" are a party/cult that supports violence in politics? Fascists led by a sociopath. Hope you "Republicans" are proud of your cult. Proud Boys to pay church $1 million for destroyed ‘Black Lives Matter’ sign The Proud Boys organization must pay more than $1 million to a historic Black church in D.C. after a judge determined members of the group damaged a Black Lives Matter sign displayed on the building’s front lawn in 2020. D.C. Superior Court Judge Neal E. Kravitz ruled that the Dec. 12, 2020, rally by hundreds of Proud Boys members and supporters following President Donald Trump’s failed reelection bid was an “attack” on Metropolitan AME Church that “resulted from a highly orchestrated set of events focused on the Proud Boys’s guiding principles: white supremacy and violence.” In the 34-page ruling, the judge ordered the Proud Boys to pay the church $1.03 million. Kravitz wrote the Proud Boys in the fall of 2020 “reached a new level of prominence” when Trump referenced the group during his first national debate during the general election campaign. Asked to condemn white supremacists, Trump stated instead, “Proud Boys — stand back and stand by.” The judge wrote that the group then saw a “spike” in recruits. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/06/30/black-lives-matter-church-sign-burned-proud-boys/

DeSantis and MAGA GOP with more empty performative politics, perhaps hoping to appeal to an oftentimes corrupted SCOTUS. A federal court blocked a Florida election law Monday that would’ve imposed more limitations on voter registration efforts in the state. In a 58-page ruling, U.S. District Judge Mark Walker agreed with the plaintiffs that the new state law is unconstitutional, saying that implementing restrictions on third-party voter registration organizations violates the Constitution. "Florida may, of course, regulate elections, including the voter registration process,” Walker said in his ruling. “Here, however, the challenged provisions exemplify something Florida has struggled with in recent years; namely, governing within the bounds of the United States Constitution." thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/4079884-federal-court-blocks-florida-election-law/

Tom Nichols, former Republican with his opinion on the state of America and the MAGA GOP cult. The reality is that the Americans who have taught us all to hate one another instantly at the sight of a license plate or at the first intonation of a regional accent are the vanguard of the new American right, and they have found fame and money in promoting division and even sedition. These are the people, on our radios and televisions and even in the halls of Congress, who encourage us to fly Gadsden and Confederate flags and to deface our cars with obscene and stupid bumper stickers; they subject us to inane prattle about national divorce as they watch the purchases and ratings and donations roll in. Such people have made it hard for any of us to be patriotic; they pollute the incense of patriotism with the stink of nationalism so that they can issue their shrill call to arms for Americans to oppose Americans. Their appeals demean every voter, even those of us who resist their propaganda, because all of us who hear them find ourselves drawing lines and taking sides. When I think of Ohio, for example, I no longer think (as I did for most of my life) of a heartland state and the birthplace of presidents. Instead, I wonder how my fellow American citizens there could have sent to Congress such disgraceful poltroons as Jim Jordan and J. D. Vance—men, in my view, whose fidelity to the Constitution takes a back seat to personal ambition, and whose love of country I will, without reservation, call into question. Likewise, when I think of Florida, I envision a natural wonderland turned into a political wasteland by some of the most ridiculous and reprehensible characters in American politics. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2023/07/july-4-patriotism/674605/
