To be fair though you were wrong on Mutombo not coming here. So it would make sense that you are reacting negatively to his announcement and him. I would probably do the same in a similar circumstance. I was mistaken. And so were Chris Wright and Austin Freeman. I wish him great success as a Hoya. I was on Mutombo coming here all the way up until he started talking to Tennessee. Before that, I was rah rah Ryan coming to Georgetown. When he started talking to Tennessee, I lost all hope and damn near started crying. Right then, I was convinced that he just didn't want to come to Georgetown. At that moment, I wrote on the boards about how, on an old TMZ video interview that I saw back a year ago, he seemed adamant that he didn't want to follow in his father's footsteps. I still had a small hope that he would come to Georgetown but I wasn't no longer speaking about it anymore or writing anything on the boards about Ryan. On top of all that he kept getting Tennessee predictions and I was just done! So I just kept my mouth shut until all that Tennessee talk ceased and then I got on the boards and started kissing Ryan's ring again begging him to come to Georgetown.

Very glad he is with us and I hope we don't feel the need to nitpick every single word the kid says and try to draw conclusions based on it. Very strange to me when people really pay THAT much attention to the stuff high schoolers say. This logic is used by many on the board for basically anything Gtown related, it runs neck & neck with the "unless you're a part of the program you really shouldn't comment" reasoning... Both really hamper any decent discussion or debate on the board in my view...

Haha I don’t think I need to explain the fairly obvious distinction between commenting on the state of a program vs trying to dissect the word choice of a high school senior in an Instagram live interview and using that to determine whether said high schooler has leadership chops. Come on man even you know that’s a bad argument.

Perhaps it wasn't the best things for him to say. But he's coming here now. There will be lots of opportunities to judge what kind of person and teammate he is (and all things I've read by PEOPLE WHO KNOW HIM seem to indicate he's a good kid), rather than an interview where he's probably still pumped up on committing and may have gone a tad too far. The assertions or conclusions people are coming to from a couple of post-commitment quotes is not fair. God know what quotes you could have gotten from me back then.

Still amazes me that adults are being critical of Ryan’s interview. I believe 99% of parents would be proud to have an incoming student deliver that kind of interview. I know I would. For anyone still nitpicking ...I honestly feel badly them.
Ryan...if you are reading this, I am sure you will have to get used to the increased scrutiny that comes with being both a high level division 1 athlete and one that happens to have a famous father. While I know you have to get used to this at some level, and may need to develop thick skin, I encourage you to just be you and not worry about what some of these people say. You are always going to have to deal with people who feel they have something to prove and do so by knocking down others. Just be you and do your thing!!

I think young Mr Mutombo is perfectly capable of sorting through the internet. I’d predict the old man is proud of this, but that it is no surprise to him:

Ryan, I love the way you present your case. You are absolutely right, that what matters more than anything else is performance and the program wanting you more for your skills than your pedigree. Just remember, on this board, people speculate a great deal. Can’t wait to see you assert yourself on the court.

I'm just not a fan of the reasoning you used in your post...

I didn’t assert you believed either of those things, I made a note that your comparison of the two arguments is clearly erroneous based on how different the subjects are. Entirely unsure what the point of your post is outside of a pointless intellectual exercise.

Parents can be proud of the interview and 1/2 the team might have a message to deliver to him in the 1st scrimmage.

Are you really dissecting and criticizing the interview a high school senior just gave? Do you have kids of your own? You get that you’re the one that sounds utterly ridiculous.

He’s not a guy who is angry, has an attitude or isolated himself like some others before him may have been. That’s not to say that he won’t get an elbow or two in practice from the bigs ahead of him in the pecking order ....but that’s expected.

I’ve studied about which I have posted for many years. I think we are all tired of this so let’s move on.
