Meh, the "expert" may just be speculating based solely on the fact that Ryan has not committed to Georgetown already.

This comes completely out of nowhere, but would appear to have some credibility with McDonald and Bossi (McDonald has seemed to be pretty close to Ryan)...but I thought his final 3 were GU, Stanford and Ga Tech, so Tenn seems to have come from nowhere...but if true, I absolutely don't understand the timing and "leaking" to rivals...maybe all will be revealed and will make some sense, but right now its very perplexing at the very least...

What will be will be. Ryan will not make or break the Hoyas. Could be nice, but we've got three big boys for the next three years! And as long as they stay, the better they will get, and the better we will be. Ryan can do as he pleases!

This recruitment had little to do with rankings and everything to do with the GU family. Just a few weeks ago it looked like he was ready to pop for us. Now Tennessee comes out of nowhere. Would have been fun seeing Dikembe cheering his kid on.

Our experience seems to be the longer these "hot" recruits draw out their selection process, the less the decision it is in the favor of the Georgetown Hoyas.

This is a very odd development. Usually where there's smoke, there's fire. Disappointing to say the least.
If I was a glass half-full guy, I would say it's because we need the scholarship for Aminu Mohammed though!

Honestly, whatever. That's my reaction. Wish him the best, and he will always be a part of the family. However, I don't think we need a center in 2021 (unless it's someone like Chet, who is a game changer), and I am not sure Ryan's skillset fits best here anyway. Put differently, I think we could put this scholarship to better use, and that is without any disrespect to Ryan, who I hope turns himself into a first round draft pick one day.

There's some bad takes and then there's "we can put this scholarship to better use" after a year where we were signing two star bodies just to have people to put on the floor.

I would rather have Chet, if possible. I dont like the drawout. He'd be nice to have but doesnt seem to offer any more than we have, whereas if Chet decided, we would have something special.

So you're telling me it's good that this kid with super strong ties to Georgetown that's been talked about coming for at least 8 years seemingly decides on a whim to go to Tennessee because <looks at notes> we are somehow going to pull the #1 recruit in the nation who has 0 ties whatsoever to Georgetown and is from a state we don't have any ties to when we haven't successfully recruited a 5* in over 12 years. We're not getting any 5*. None of them are coming, ever ever ever - it doesn't matter how many nice things they say about Patrick Ewing - it's like listening to Grant Hill eulogize John Thompson. Sure they like the idea of him, but they're never coming here to be coached by him.

Right, because your post makes a lot of sense. let's just take guys at position we're stacked because who knows how many we'll lose in a given year. Sound recruiting strategy, but I expect nothing less from the guy who won't stop posting about Brandon Murray, a kid we stopped recruiting 6 months ago.

Put differently, I think we could put this scholarship to better use, and that is without any disrespect to Ryan, who I hope turns himself into a first round draft pick one day. Obviously, Ryan is one kid, and he can decide whatever he wants. I think the bigger concern is that you basically could not craft a kid that seemingly should fit Georgetown better than Ryan Mutomobo. His father went to Georgetown, loves Georgetown, clearly has made Ryan incredibly familiar with Georgetown. Ryan is a big man, and Georgetown is famous for their big men. We often hear from the press and media how Ewing is such a great coach for big men, and how recruits should be able to learn so much from him. On top of all that, Mutombo is a top-100 recruit, and Ewing has struggled to get many of them. The problem with Ryan Mutomobo committing to a place like Tennessee is that here, we have basically every advantage one could hope or dream for in recruiting, and DESPITE ALL THAT, we may still lose him. If our staff cannot recruit a top 100 recruit under those circumstances, how are they going to get anybody else of that caliber?

We lost <checks notes> 5 players to transfer or <heavy air quotes>transfer</heavy air quotes> last year. Spare us the Slate pitch nonsense about how it's actually a good thing that this kid is favoring Tennessee over us. It's not.

I hope Ryan becomes a Hoya. I think he is already a good player and has the chance to develop into a NBA player under Coach Ewing. If he decides he wants to go somewhere else and make his own path, then I wish him well.
We should know for sure fairly soon.
