So with Warley now committed to FSU, do they still have room for Mutombo? They have quite the class put together. According to verbal commits, they're all out of scholarships. Now I hope that he doesn't procrastinate and the Hoyas garner interest from someone who's willing to bite on the last one (preferably a 5*).

I would take Ryan over a five star in a second. He is family. Dikembe gets it. Patrick surely gets it. And I guess Ryan does as well.
That connection, his strength and ability, and his willingness to embrace the center position. Hard not to be excited about him! Ryan, we would be thrilled to have you at Georgetown!

He can still be family, why would that change? We should welcome any recruit who's willing to see what GU has to offer, and therefore jump on the offer if it's given to them. I understand the feel good story of having a legacy recruit join the fold, but if recruit A who may have a better bball profile shouldn't receive the scholarship b/c Mutombo waiting around looking other option. That may not look good from the outside, so therefore we'll see how it will come about if that scenario ever present itself. I would be thrilled for Ryan to come on board, just as I'd be thrilled for another recruit to join too if the offer is there.

It seems pretty clear that the staff is still working hard and staying on '21 recruits, so they are not holding a scholarship indefinitely for Ryan.

I don't really look at this thread because it has devolved to quite the jumbled mess, but can a mod please change the title to edit out the 6'9" part? a. it's no longer true. b. the heights aren't listed on anyone else's threads...

Maybe if he committed in a reasonable period of time, but I hope we don’t hold a spot and miss Holmgren, Reid, or Amimu. Ryan may contribute if he continues to develop in future years. The others would be game changers immediately. I’ve seen nothing that Ryan is an immediate game changer.

Ryan is talented with legacy connections but he's not better than Aminu or Holmgren. It sounds like he has bigger dreams than being in Hoya Grey and Blue.
If so, then slow play that last scholly for the other bigger fish that have interest. I venture to say that there will be 1 to 2 transfers next year.
With 15 players on the roster this year, some of those guys are gonna want more playing time than what could be available.

The others would be game changers immediately. I’ve seen nothing that Ryan is an immediate game changer. Thank you! I'd classify this under good problems to have if we are faced with them. Just 2 months ago we were still scrambling to fill out a 2020 class in which we were all desperate for a prospect of Ryan's level. That's huge progress in our recruiting in a very short period of time. I hate to think of any player currently committed to being a Hoya not being a Hoya for life (I think everyone should want to be because I have crazy Blue & Gray-tinted glasses), but I don't think this is an either/or situation. If Ryan wants to commit and one (or even more) of those 5-star players wants to commit, I'm sure there will end up enough scholarships for them. No coach is going to miss out on one of the 5-stars if they can bring them in, and no Hoya program is going to miss out on a 4-star son of Dikembe Mutombo if he wants to play for us.

I have truly never understood the people who show so much concern about having too many players, or not enough room. If anything, last year should show that it's exactly the opposite situation. Ryan Mutombo is a top 100 recruit, a position that Georgetown is known for, and someone who almost certainly could contribute as a freshman.
I think some people here try to be contrarian for the sake of being contrarian. There is legitimately no reason why Ryan Mutombo would not be a great addition.
I do not say that to take away from the other guys on our roster, but if Ryan is better than guys already on the roster, he should play over them. Timothy barely played last season, and while he has nice size, he is clearly behind in skill development. To offer specifics, he was often out of place on defense, he fouled at an extremely high rate in his limited time (7.1 fouls per 40 minutes), and generally he is raw. That does not mean he cannot get better, but Georgetown has had other projects who fail to develop to the extent we ideally need them to be. Further, on Malcom Wilson, we truly have no idea what we are going to get.
So really, we are left with Wahab, the only semi-proven guy, who will be a junior by the time Mutombo sets foot on campus. And, Wahab similarly had fouling problems (6.5 fouls per 40 minutes). So basically, we have one young skilled center in Wahab, who fouls a lot and almost certainly cannot play much more than 25 minutes a game. So what's the problem?
Our team has been pretty bad the last three years, yet somehow we are supposed to be concerned about getting a top 100 guy, with a strong family connection to the program? I don't hear Duke or Kentucky fans worrying about such things.
Ryan, if you are reading this, please know that 99% of Georgetown fans very much want to see you on the Hilltop.
