We play 18 games in one of the toughest conferences in the country. Sure a quality non conference win could help us sneak into the tourney if we have a mediocre conference record. But 12-6 conference record plus 2 BE tourney wins and we're in. Maybe even 11-7 with 2 BE tourney wins. We have a built-in SOS as members of the BE so let's just take care of business there. I'm going with 1 OCC loss, 10-8 and reaching the BET semis. That's 22+ Ws and 10 Ls for a BE team.

Under all those scenarios we would almost definitely be in. Keep in mind that’s basically a 14-7 record in your first scenario and 13-8 in the second scenario. You can’t get 13-14 wins without beating some good teams. The more difficult scenarios are situations like 9-9 and 10-8. 9-9 with a good OOC schedule (and some wIns) would likely be a solid bid, whereas 9-9 with last year’s schedule would have been out. That’s why games like the Syracuse game and lllinois away game are important. Those would be nice away wins that would be a good boost to a 9-9 type result.

The Big East is ready gonna beat each other this year. I actually think the conference will show well in non-conf play. All of the teams have young talent ready to step up and play huge roles.

I don’t think anyone disagrees with this sentiment (win as many of the games we have scheduled and it will take care of itself), it’s just frustrating not giving our team a few more chances at good wins out of conference. It’s a self inflicted thing, and there really isn’t a downside to playing more quality teams OOC. I’m expecting a modest improvement in this team, but even getting 5 win improvement in conference (10-8) which would be huge probably still requires us to run the table OOC for an at large (or one loss maybe). We’ve given ourself almost no margin for error.

We’ve given ourself almost no margin for error. I think this notion is overblown. If we get double digit wins in conference we're dancing baring 3 or more losses OOC. We still have a fairly easy and reasonable path to a bid. The schedule really won't hurt us much. We have plenty of margin for error. Sure it might hurt seeding, but schedule is not going to prevent us from getting a bid if we win 21+ games this season.

Our home and home series with SMU...from a recruiting angle, was a smart move.

Announced at Hoya Madness... free tickets for all students for the opener on Nov 6th It sounded like it was for more than just the Nov 6th game and including the smaller school out of BE games.

Does anyone know if recruits are invited to these scrimmages ala hoya madness. I believe only recruits on OV's are allowed at closed scrimmages. That might have changed recently to not even allow recruits on OV's but I'm pretty certain that prospects on unofficial visits are not allowed...

I was digging around in the NCAA regulations last evening, which included scrimmages and official visits. If I remember correctly official visits can include a work out in a closed practice. I've been in Maryland's facility when they have had official visit recruits in for workout with a handful of players, and non-players or coaches were booted out until they finished. Also, I can't imagine having a player in for an OV for a "secret scrimmage" as there are a lot of things you would want to keep far from other program's eyes.

My faith makes me want to believe that everyone, no matter how their life developed early on, can be redeemed and be a positive example for good.
But my ingrained distaste for all things Syracuse makes it so, so hard this time!🙃

I noticed the TV listings for our games this year (including the opener) include several simply on "Fox Sports Networks." This appears as a different category than Fox, FS1, or FS2. Does anyone know what this means, exactly?

These would be local sports channels such as Fox sports Southwest or Fox sports Detroit. Typically, the games would be broadcast on 4, 5, or more of the local channels. If you have a comprehensive sports package on your cable or satellite network you would have access to these games. Otherwise, you might have a problem.
