My only question. Why in a boot now and not before? Likely a different injury than before. Plantar injuries can cause players to overcompensate and a twinge of pain from it. The play before Mac came out he had an awkward step around pass and hobbled after it. It isn’t uncommon to have a plantar injury and then get a tendon or ligament injury due to overcompensation or over reaction to shooting pain.

I think Mac actually stepped on the defender's foot and rolled his ankle. That could explain the boot.

Unless Mac makes a miraculous recovery......hoping he just takes his time and gets his ankle right. That may mean we shut him down for the year. The way Mac plays the game...it’s hard to bring him back slowly. It’s all or nothing with his style of play and unless he’s 100%...he probably shouldn’t come back.

My experience with PF is coming back too quickly, and in my first (soccer) game back, tearing the quad on my opposite leg. He was clearly favoring one leg, so would not be at all surprised if that played a part in his current injury. Somewhat relevantly—I wasn’t supposed to play more than a few minutes in my first game back, but our team was short players so I ended up playing most of the game until I felt the tear.

I think you basically have to shut him down for the year. If we somehow make the NCAA tournament then maybe he comes back at that point (but seems unlikely anyway)

Mac, Yurt, Moseley have all laid it on the line. We are just out of bodies and the extra minutes are just breaking the rest of the team down. Fans like to throw around “never say die” and “you never quit” stuff like it’s just a mental barrier to be overcome. I applaud these guys and their effort but it’s completely unreasonable to expect that this team will will itself to win simply by being mentally tough enough and if the game is “coached correctly”. The writing is on the wall here. You can’t sign free agents in college basketball. I wouldn’t fault any of the guys for saying enough is enough. I have nothing but respect for the effort and pride the players and coaches have put forth this year under the circumstances. This is not some fairytale movie where some great speech and a tactical adjustment is going to overcome the incredible cascade of events and misfortune that has befallen this team. Mac get yourself right. Same for the rest of the guys. Yurt get your ankle right and take the time to improve your core and lower body strength. Moseley - thanks feel bad team never made it over the hump for you.

We would need to win at least 2 and likely 3 of 4 over the next two weeks to get back into the picture. It ain't happening with our wounded warriors and short bench. Shut down the injured guys for now. If they get back to or at least close to 100%, see if we have a miracle BET in us. Otherwise thank Jagan, Terrell and Omer for their Hoya careers, tell Mac to rest and rehab for a few more weeks, see if we can grab a serviceable grad transfer, and start planning how to incorporate a bunch of new guys come September.

Does Mac have a chance to petition the NCAA for an injury waiver of his sophomore year?

Does Mac have a chance to petition the NCAA for an injury waiver of his sophomore year? No. Medical red shirt only available if you play in less than 30% of your team's games and sustain a season ending injury.

Does Mac have a chance to petition the NCAA for an injury waiver of his sophomore year? What? He's played in most of the games.

I've been waiting for somebody to say this. It is becoming painful to watch these guys try to gut their games out. I'd add playing Igohefe, Robinson or Azinge more especially if the game is out of reach. Get guys healthy and try for a BET surprise.

A run to the finals is the only chance we have to make the tournament at this point.

If we go down early, then sure give backups some time but no reason to throw in the towel before the game has started. That said, I fully agree with the premise of not bringing Mac back until he is healthy. Yurt can decide for himself if it's worth playing for a NBA contract.

I think we definitely need more than one more win, probably at least 2. 7-11 conference won't do it unless we get to BET semis, maybe even finals.

A question - with Mac in the boot Saturday and today, seems obvious there was zero chance he was going to be able to play. So why have an injured player traipsing around Illinois and Wisconsin for almost a week? Doesn't it make more sense to stay home where he can rest, stay off the foot, rehab?
I guess unless they already know he is done for the season so might as well have him with the rest of the team.

I miss this man so much. We need him desperately. Nobody can create any sort of shot for themselves. Just at least tell me if he's out for the rest of the season. I don't want to be refreshing twitter every five minutes looking for a Mac update. Please tell me something... This team needs him. But, just do whatever's best for him. I would just like to know at least something before gameday once.
That being said, I don't think he's coming back this season.

Mac is only effective when he’s 100%. His explosiveness gives him an edge. A hobbled Mac is an average player. He needs to work on his three this summer, as it’s critical that he get that percentage up.

Even before the foot injury, Mac wasn’t the same guy he was prior to the eye gauging in the final OOC game. Prior to that it’s easy to forget how awesome he was against Ok State, Syracuse, etc. He was playing at an all BE level for that short burst. Once he came back from eye injury he really never hit that level again.

Mac definitely gets banged up. Targeted at times and fouled hard. We don’t have an enforcer on our team to get his back.
