Who you guard and ball handling responsibilities are not the same imo. And if you compare where he was playing for Massanhuten it's not close to the same...
It's not the major thing that's hurt him imo but one more thing he has/had to adjust to. Today is a new opportunity so hopefully we see some improvement.

In the short term, I'd be fine with him continuing to take the open looks he's taking (especially the corner 3) but I'd like to see him fully engaged on D and working at minimizing turnovers. He should not be handling the ball in any sort of traffic. He's just not capable yet at this level.

He's not a 2, offensively or defensively. He never will be.
He thinks he is (at least somewhat) -- see pre-season comments about what Pat said to him. This is a major concern.
Sure - a good PG would make him better. But it wouldn't make him a 2.

Pickett had by far his best game today -- not just hitting his shots, but attacked the rim well, dished some assists, rebounded and didn't turn the ball over much. Great to see and if and Blair can continue to get better, this team can improve immensely before the end of the season.
I don't have much hope for the team turnovers improving, but getting this kind of quality perimeter play with rebounds and assists on the side would open up a ton of stuff for the team.

Basically we wouldn't have to "imagine" what our offense should look like. It would actually look like itself. That would be a huge improvement if they can get there for the stretch run. The play of the game for Pickett was the baseline drive early. That's how you knew he wasn't going to be passive.

So happy for Jamarko today, you could tell he had really been pressing lately. Really let the game come to him today. He is probably so used to things coming to him so easily.
Has such a bright future and as stated earlier in this thread. No one works harder in practice then him. He deserves a good game like this.

Excellent first half. His drive early allowed him to get jump shots and hit shots. Him driving to the hoop consistently is crucial to the teams success.

Contributed in a variety of ways today. That is the guy we have been waiting for. Hopefully the boost to his confidence will settle his play.

I'll take back some of my criticism of Jamarko in this thread. He did play much better today. But again, his ball handling still leaves much to be desired. And his defense is suspect. But with Govan in foul trouble he and Blair did step up. Let's see how he. progresses.

If anything, I've seen him trying to do more than he's yet able to do in the past handful of games. While that can look really bad, especially for young players, it's sometimes indicative of a guy that's really competitive and believes he can help carry his team. Hopefully, that's the case with young Mr. Pickett and today is just a step in the right direction for him. It's always fun to watch one (or more, please more!!) of our guys having some success and improving. He's got a great frame and solid mechanics on his shot and he's fluid and, because of that, he's had commentators throwing out comparisons that we, as fans, love to hear. But, from his side of it, it's gotta be difficult to hear those same things and be a freshman trying to find his place and his speed on his team before venturing out into the deeper waters of being the "next" anyone or a version of anyone else.
One or two and done is great if you can be one of those guys and be successful doing it. But, while a lot has changed in the last decade of college and pro ball, one thing that hasn't is that there is still a place for really fundamentally sound 4 year college players with the right measurables. If he's the worker that we've heard he is from more than one or two sources, his future is up to him. Should be fun to watch and support.

I've been tough on Pickett, so I just wanted to say good game today. If Pickett can shoot like he did today he will have a role on the team. 4 turnovers is still a lot, and this might be tough for him to fix this season, but a much better effort. I've stated in the past that he hasn't really shown any flashes of ability up to now - and today he had a nice game shooting, so I am glad to see that. It's only one game, so who knows what will happen, but if he can repeat that going forward he can definitely contribute.

Here's the thing with Pickett...his role this year is substantially different than his role in high school. There he was a 4 who did not spend a ton of time out on the perimeter being asked to take guys off the dribble but rather just hit the occasional step out jump shot. As such, his ball handling skills were non-existent. Fast forward to now where he's a 2/3 and is spending 100% of his time on the perimeter doing many things for the first time. Listen, I've been disappointed with his play this year, full disclosure, but that's before I realized how this position is totally new to him. In a lot of ways he is like Ike who at Brewster was a stretch 4 and did a lot of his damage on the boards with putbacks, alley-oops, etc. Now Ike never developed with us here at GTown but that's not to say Pickett won't. He works very hard by all accounts, looks like he takes in all the coaching PE is giving him and just seems to want to be very good. That's why we have to cut him some slack. It's not his fault that he never played this position before this year, it's just a reality. Games like yesterday show glimmers of what he can be. For as frustrating as some of the TO's are now I would just say be patient (and I have to remind myself of that too). Jamorko is going to be a very good Hoya and I'm excited to see his growth, both the rest of the year and moving forward

Seems like forever ago but we forget the Richmond game when he had 12pts 7rbds and 3 assts. Think he hit the game winner also. The best part of his game yesterday were the other things he did besides scoring. Shooting will likely be inconsistent this year but you can always get on the glass... www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/boxscore?gameId=400988498

That makes the transition to the 2 guard position more problematic for him. That reminds me of a player who played center/big forward in college and was drafted by Seattle SuperSonics in the eighties. That was Michael Phelps of Alcorn State. He was converted to the two guard and played a number of years in the league and oversees. Kid has a learning curve and by end of year will be much better in his ball handling and decision making. Patrick’s pass on Tucker probably told him that Patrick was committed to him for next year.

Kept Hoyas in the game for parts of Saturday- keep at it young man!!! Great to see Pickett have some success. Hopefully this gives him the confidence he needs to continue to develop as a player that this team needs to score on a consistent basis, if they want to compete in the Big East. All you hear is that he is a really hard worker and seeing that hard work pay off can only help motivate him to become the player everyone was hoping for when he committed. Having two freshman, Pickett and Blair, step up as consistent scorers would be a huge boost to this program for this year and for the future.

His drive to the bucket for the and one was better then anything I have seen him do. He didn't dribble it off his knee. He took on contact and scored. We need more of that.
