On one hand, HS age kids who are the victims of gun violence are too young to be taken seriously when it comes to gun control.
On the other, it's probably a good idea to arm preschoolers....

Not sure where to put this so I chose this thread... I'm very interested to see how this plays out.. www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/nra-maria-butina-701543/The NRA contributed $30 million to help elect Donald Trump in 2016. The FBI has been investigating whether some or all of that cash may have been supplied by Russia. Rolling Stone reported in April that the Russian central banker Alexander Torshin, along with Butina, had deeper ties to the NRA than previously known. The NRA even flew a delegation to Moscow in 2015 to meet with Kremlin officials, including one freshly sanctioned by the Obama administration.

Possibly the tip of the iceberg on how Russia not only targeted Trump but also evangelicals and 2nd Amendment supporters who support Trump. IOW, the Republican Party as a whole. This would explain why the Republicans are loathe to push back too strongly. As a party, it may be as compromised as Trump.

Something seriously wrong with this picture... Not so. The safety of our children is the most important thing, and there is no better way to keep our children safe than to provide all teachers with guns. Said the Mad Hatter.

When you talk about "extremists" on both sides of this debate please remember one side won't even budge on simply allowing the CDC to do gun violence research... That's their mainstream position and it's extremely radical...

The thing is they call "radical" being "patriotic" whereas a man that kneels in protest of violence against a marginalized segment of the population is "un-American." I don't have the capacity to do the mental gymnastics that would allow me to understand that version of "patriotism" much less moral justification.

Thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by the mass shooting at concert in Vegas. It's been a year since 58 people at a concert in Las Vegas were mowed down, and dozens of others had their lives forever altered with serious injuries. Is NOW a good time to talk about gun control? Or is it still too soon? Do we have enough facts? Or are "thoughts and prayers" still our only option?

Sorry Cam, since the last mass shooting was just yesterday, it’s still too early to talk about possible solutions. Thoughts and prayers are still your best bet.

Oh, I forgot, some of you believe the constitution is a living document that can be changed without actually amending it. Sorry for speaking out of turn.

How did the assault weapons ban that started in 1994 come about? Was the constitution amended? The constitution isn't preventing Republicans from taking action. The Gun Lobby is, and they own Republicans... At least be truthful about it...

The Gun Lobby is, and they own Republicans... At least be truthful about it... So many people are just out of touch with other people who live in different parts of the country where gun ownership is part of the culture. I, myself, did not fully realize this until moving to South Carolina eight years ago. And it has surprised me. Flyover country wants its guns for self protection. Saying it is the gun lobby is completely missing the point. As for your first point, it wasn't the first time the constitution was violated. It has been going on ever more aggressively since the 1930's. Whatever comes before it in the wording, the 2nd amendment says clearly "...the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed". The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the people in this case.
