The "well regulated" part allows for regulation.

How did the assault weapons ban that started in 1994 come about? Was the constitution amended? The constitution isn't preventing Republicans from taking action. The Gun Lobby is, and they own Republicans... At least be truthful about it... So many people are just out of touch with other people who live in different parts of the country where gun ownership is part of the culture. I, myself, did not fully realize this until moving to South Carolina eight years ago. And it has surprised me. Flyover country wants its guns for self protection. Saying it is the gun lobby is completely missing the point. That's a bad culture.

I, myself, did not fully realize this until moving to South Carolina eight years ago. And it has surprised me. Flyover country wants its guns for self protection. Saying it is the gun lobby is completely missing the point. As for your first point, it wasn't the first time the constitution was violated. It has been going on ever more aggressively since the 1930's. Whatever comes before it in the wording, the 2nd amendment says clearly "...the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed". The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the people in this case.Ed, my friend, I've lived all over this country. You don't know what my life experiences are and I don't know yours. I probably grew up in worse circumstances than the majority of this board and I've lived in the South, Southwest, East and Westcoast in my 31 years on this planet. My Grandaddy lived in North Carolina, I used to spend all my summers there. I even used to work on a farm in Tobaccoville, North Carolina. It was my first job, I was 14. If I wasn't there, I was visiting my Grandmother in Fort Myers Florida. We all have experiences that shape us, I've definitely a New Yorker, but let's not get into a chest thumping match about who, or who isn't out of touch. No, it did not... The point I was trying to make was not an argument for an assault weapons ban but to show the Constitution isn't preventing Republicans from acting in most cases, the gun lobby is. Example: Nothing in the constitution says you can't research the impact of guns on society as a health issue. Do you think the average gun owner is against that action? Doubtful, but the NRA is, and Republicans fall in line. There are plenty of things that they could do that would not infringe on the rights to keep and bear arms. They choose not to do anything at all because of the NRA. More concerned with an A+ rating than seriously analyzing what can be done to keep people safer and protect an individuals rights to keep and bear arms.

Any culture that leads to this is a bad culture: www.washingtonpost.com/news/parenting/wp/2018/10/02/were-teaching-kids-how-to-fight-off-an-active-shooter-surely-we-can-do-better/?utm_term=.5c84ed068fce"Across the country, school districts are implementing all sorts of training and education for teachers and kids. All of them focus on how not to die in school. All of them place the responsibility for staying alive on the victims." When the "price of freedom" includes teaching children to throw school supplies at active shooters. we have Editeded up freedom. Badly.

I’d llke to know what is going on in South Carolina and other parts of the south that makes everyone feel so unsafe that they need to arm themselves to the teeth. This idea that guns = personal safety is absurd.

I live in a resort town where the fulltime offseason population is about 700, in season 2,000. The mayor just got voted out because our fulltime police force shrunk from 6 (allowing for 24 hour coverage) to 3 due to change in HR policies in the PD because of the former mayor. Absent local PD we rely upon DE State police with nearest barracks 20 miles away. Also an open carry state but only once have I've ever seen someone doing so on the boardwalk. It's a resort town with very little violent crime. Biggest violent crime last summer was a fight and victim thrown into a canal. The alleged victim refused to cooperate -- my guess, members of the Beach Week Ralph Club who didn't want to rat out their buddies.

Interesting that a bunch of armed, highly-trained law enforcement officers (aka "Good Guys With Guns") could have been shot at all by a "Bad Guy With A Gun". I assume armed, highly-trained elementary school teachers will do better in their future active shooter situations.

Thoughts and prayers needed, stat. We must not talk about the insane gun culture.

Among the dead was a sheriff’s sergeant, 29-year veteran Ron Helus. “He died a hero. He went in to save lives,” said Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean.

Shooter is a 28-year old former Marine known to police as they had been called to his house for some type of disturbance in April 2018. Cleared by "mental health" crisis intervention team. Perhaps PTSD?

My heart is breaking. A few of my daughter's friends from school knew people who were killed last night. She also said (yet to be confirmed - you can't always take what a 15 year old tells you at fact value) that a few of the victims were survivors of Las Vegas. There's just no f--ing end to this. It appears that this time we aren't dealing with some nut with a gun, but with a war hero who wasn't properly treated for his disabilities. Please, Lord, make it stop..
