The short duration in which that number of bullets was fired is truly terrifying. Are people still trying to say “you can do just as much damage with a knife”? I am so sick of this. This won’t even move the needle.

Silence from our self-proclaimed "pro-life" HoyaTalk "Republicans" - just as they were silent as to Oklahoma's accelerated death penalty plan.

It’s this same argument over and over again. I also keep reading “criminals aren’t going to obey the laws” as if that makes any sense. In that case, if people are just going to get to abortions anyways, why have laws against them? Actually, why have any laws? I mean, people are just gonna do what people do. The stupidity of a large swath of this country is just beyond comprehension. As a side note, my wife and I both changed our party affiliation to democrat today. As people who had signs for local Republicans in their yard as recently as 2019, we’ve absolutely had it. The whole Republican party is a lost cause and doesn’t seem like it has any chance of ever getting better.

And, what's going on now is far larger than party affiliations. I'm a registered independent. But, come on in. The water is a bit less terrible.

To be fair, we were independent before but leaned right, mostly on economic issues. We weren’t terribly interested in politics, but then Trump came along and he made it impossible not to be. He was so obviously terrible that I increasingly watched in horror as he destroyed everything he touched.

He was so obviously terrible that I increasingly watched in horror as he destroyed everything he touched. I appreciate your candor. I think (anecdotally) that that's a very common sentiment among many, many people. However, a shockingly small number of not particularly political people with right-leaning tendencies (especially economically) have chosen to abandon the "Republican" party entirely it seems. I don't understand it but I've come to a place where I've reconciled myself to the fact that I, likely, never will. Before any level of political or economic leanings, I'm an American and I'm very much in support of American democracy. As such, my leanings have more been dictated to me at this point than being afforded the luxury of choice amongst 2 competing philosophies that both value democracy and the needs of the American people. It's very concerning to me that many in our country seem to be more than willing to burn it all down in favor of fighting over a couple of issues which the sides, apparently, will never find a compromise. Which, IMO, is sad because, regardless of affiliation, we have FAR more in common than we have that divide us. But, we continue to focus only on the few things that divide us. It's not a positive way forward for any of us.

A great American Independence Day to all, but especially to the people of Highland Park, Illinois. If all the people in the parade had only been armed with assault rifles, maybe this wouldn't have been quite so bad.

BY EWAN PALMER ON 7/05/22 AT 6:09 AM EDT
Robert "Bobby" Crimo, the man accused of killing six people and injuring at least 38 more in a mass shooting Illinois, posted videos and images online featuring former president Donald Trump, and attended a rally dressed the character from the children's books Where's Waldo.
Crimo, 22, who was taken into custody on Monday in connection to the Fourth of July shooting, was also found to have uploaded a number of disturbing posts and imagery on various social media and websites.
As noted by NBC News, the suspect's online posting did not overtly reference politics or political figures, except for two posts about Trump.
In one video, uploaded onto YouTube on January 2, 2021, Crimo is with a crowd of Trump supporters waiting for the presidential motorcade outside an airport.
As the vehicles drive by, Crimo flips his phone and shows his face, which has distinctive tattoos.
Crimo also posted a photo onto Twitter showing him draped in a Trump flag on June 27, 2021, along with the caption "Spam."
